The Melting Pot - Austin - Northwest Ratings and Reviews
We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation at a table w/ one burner when we asked for two. We brought this to their attention and he said it would be another "small" wait which we decline. The waitress apologized multiple time which we were fine with but it wasn't her fault the hostess overbooked. You could tell our waitress was a bit rushed during the night which made of feel like a burden. The manager did come over and apologize comping $10 worth of drinks which was nice but the meal was still over $90 for salad, cheese and chocalate. We usually love the melting pot but that was definitely our last time. It was horridious.
Thanks to open table I was able to reserve online day of at 7. My fiance and I walked in at 6:55 and were seated by 7. We both got The Austin's big night out, which is a four course meal for 2 for about $100. The experience is amazing, over the course of 2 hours we drank a bottle of wine and had just a really great experience. The waitress was perfect at explaining and then leaving us alone to experiment with the food and taking and goofing off.
The food was fantastic, the service was amazing, and overall the experience was great. I went for my anniversary during brunch so it would be more intimate and enjoyed the experience of cooking my own food. What I didn't enjoy was the large table next to us where the individuals were loud, listening to music on their phone and singing loudly to explicit lyrics, and were cursing and saying inappropriate things. All of this on top of the fact that there was already music playing and others talking made the first half of the 3 hour experience miserable. I feel they only got away with this because they knew several staff members. I asked the staff once to have them turn there music off and again to stop saying innapropriate things in a restaurant where children were also present. After they left the experience was enjoyable but it was a rough start and almost had me leave.
There was only one bartender working. We were seated at 7:00 and my glass of wine did not arrive until 8:00. They need an updated dining room. Our booth had cracks in the vinyl upholstery. The table seemed too crowded for all the supplies needed to cook our food. For the price paid for all the food and drinks with sub par service, I doubt we ever go back.
My family and have been going here for special occasions for years. My now 11 and 16 year old love the fondue concept, and dinner takes about 2 to 2-1/2 hours, so the conversation is always good and we always have a fun time! It is expensive, but not when you take into consideration the quality time you spend with your family!
I really wanted to give my review, and saw this email for review request and really felt like giving my honest review! The server was the best. We remembered his great service from the past. This server gave us a great service on 01/05. Melting Pot is our favorite restaurant for family dinner, and this location has been our favorite. But, when we came came in on 01/05 we were very hurt by the welcome we received at the reception. We had booked for
8:15 pm, and we arrived at 8:07. To our surprise, the person at the reception told us that they were running a few mins behind schedule, so it will be a little after 8:15. They were just waiting for people to finish and leave. So we waited. I saw people coming in after us and were being seated in 5 mins. After 30 mins of wait, I stood up and asked how long do I still need to wait. She said few more mins. I was very upset and said that it’s been a long wait. I saw several people who came after us and they got seated quickly. She said, they had booked before you. Didn’t make any sense why would someone who booked before me come so late and be seated right away, and I, who came 7 mins before my time have to wait for 30 mins. I told her that I was upset because of this and she quickly got me seated. Just felt very hurt of how we were treated/discriminated. Very unprofessional people at reception. They should be more professional. Only giving my honest opinion.
Went for a chocolate fondue and the fondue was not only warm but the stove was never turned on. So the chocolate did not taste the same. Plus the waitress never even asked if we wanted more, she just gave us the bill soon after she drop the fondue. Like the restaurant but this experience was my least favorite
We checked in for our reservation and were told they forgot about us. Seated 45 minutes late after someone asked what we were waiting for. Waitress said they were super busy and rushed us through the menu, which is not easily understood if you’re a first timer. She kept looking at other tables when we asked how it works and then said she would come back and to look at menu. Brought us wrong salad and soup... just little things you think wouldn’t happen if you spend $240 on a special occasion.
My boyfriend and his friends have a New Years Eve tradition of eating at The Melting Pot in Phoenix, so he introduced me to it for the first time this year in Austin. I loved everything about it! We had wonderful service, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was perfect for a date night. 5 Stars across the board!
Service started out slow, waited 25 minutes for a "reserved" table to be prepared due to an amateur hostess. Total dining experience took 2.75 hours. Server seemed disorganized, for example stated she'd go check on our salads and then had to be reminded we never got them 30 min later when she asked about our entree choice. Were comped both apps and deserts for the service delays which is the only thing that saved them from a horrendous review. Have been before and this was an experience outside of the normal expectations from them, definitely far below what we normally experience. Disappointing.
When even the manager and host could care less about poor service and literally give us a shrug of the shoulder then it’s time for us to move on. The manager on duty brought out our tray of raw meats and left it on stand adjacent to our table with the words of “When your server is done making cheese at another table she’ll be over.” And turned on her heels and walked away. For 5 minutes I sat their dumbfounded that that was acceptable to a manager no less to not help her waitstaff and to leave my food in the walkway on a tray right beside our table. Unacceptable when I’m spending my hard earned money. We will no longer frequent this establishment.
Despite having made reservations through OpenTable and confirming our party was all present we still had to wait 20+ minutes to be seated. The table where they eventually sat us was available the whole time. It was in the section immediately to the left of the hostess stand and I remember noticing that nobody had left from that area from the moment we walked in until when we were seated. I don't understand the delay.
The service was ok. A bit slow at times. Our server disappeared for long stretches. She seemed frazzled. She mentioned it was unusually busy and I can believe it given the time of year.
I've been to the Melting Pot several times over the years and this time I was disappointed in the quality of the meat for the entree courses. My pieces of beef were tough. I don't think it's a matter of overcooking. I had to cut through connective tissue. Given the price and the fact that we get a precious few cubes of meat I expect these to be top quality. They're obviously skimping.
The cheese fondue, salads and dessert courses were great and we all enjoyed them.
Overall, however, I'd say our experience didn't live up to the high expectations we had for this place. I don't mind paying for quality but I noticed the quality slipping, both in the food and service.
Food and service were fine. Issue was a group of 6 pre-teen girls were unattended in the table next to us. Noise was so loud we could not talk at our table without raising our voices. The kids also bounced and banged the back of the shared seat constantly. There was one set of parents, but they were not sitting nearby. With 2 hot plates on the table, I wouldn't think Melting Pot would want to take on that liability either. Please don't let a group of kids sit without some adult supervision at the table!
Food and service were excellent. Wait staff was very personable and knowledgeable. I was disappointed that six adults were seated in a booth instead of a table. Being so crammed into such a tight space took away from what should have been a great dining experience.
Outstanding customer service, called to make change in number in party met with "we can do that". Our Server Brianna, top notch, she knew her stuff and was always willing to repeat instructions as 6 of the 8 people attending had never done fondue. she was extremely knowledgeable about all the meals and the flavors. was willing to share her favorites and made the whole night a success. it is a great place for dates and anniversaries. will be taking my wife back in the future. Thank you for an awesome night.
The mule cocktail on their menu was practically undrinkable due to the overwhelming amount of ginger in it. It basically assaulted our taste buds and we had to chug waters just to cleanse our palettes to continue our meal. Service was fairly slow; we waited close to 20 minutes before we even got waters at our table. However, the rest of the dining experience was pleasant once we got over those first hiccups.
We celebrated our daughter's birthday here as we have for about 5 years now. She loves it! From the friendly host to the wonderful server, we had an awesome experience. Katie, our server, knew everything we asked and prepared our dishes all the while explaining what she was doing and keeping us entertained. She even brought out apples for me for the chocolate fondue as I'm allergic to strawberries. She made a great night even better!
I take my daughter here every year for her birthday. This year, we were very disappointed. Usually, we receive a lot of choices to dip into the cheese fondu. This time, we received green apple slices, bread, and vegetables. I asked the server about this, and said we usually have more choices, such as chips. She said, “I’ll see if I can scrounge up some chips in the kitchen.” Then brought a bowl of chips. Our server rarely checked in. Later, the chocolate was very watery. It would not stick on the food it was so thin. My water was refilled after I drank about 1/4 of it, but then not again throughout the night. I ran out of water 30 minutes before we left and did not receive a refil. This was very unusual for us to experience such poor service. The server even commented when we first arrived that they had expected to be busy, but due to the rare snow falling they were very slow. Yet, we were not provided the food we paid for and we were pretty forgotten as far as service goes.
Food and service were great but unfortunately I can't get past that my wife and I had an 830 reservation and weren't seated until 10 minutes till 9. The point of a reservation is that you don't have to wait and are seated very close to the time that was reserved. At no point did anyone even simply apologize for the wait. Acknowledging that there was a mistake or problem would have went a long way.
Seriously great food! We have been three times. All for special occasions. The food is always amazing. I love steak so I get the Steak Lovers. It never disappoints. Out waitress forgot to get my 2nd drink and about a half hour later when she appologized and asked if I still wanted it I declined. She brought us half a dozen chocolate covered strawberries to make up for it. And make up for it they did! My wife loves them. We were celebrating our anniversary that night and they brought us drinks to celebrate it. On top of that, they made sure to bring a non-alcoholic drink for my wife who is about a month from her due date. There is a lot of attention to detail at this place. Needless to say, we will be back.
We had a very friendly waitress who gave us great recommendations on our choices. We were there for a Teacher Appreciation Dinner (thanks for the free chocolate fondue for later!) We were disappointed and confused by the extra charges (for cooking styles) that appeared on our bill. We were unaware that choosing different cooking styles was extra - which btw, I don't think it should be.) After talking to the manager, she kindly removed the charges. Thanks! The food was excellent and it's such a great experience. You can have some great conversations as this dining experience can take 2+ hours!
