The Melting Pot - Midtown Atlanta Ratings and Reviews
We have been to the Melting Pot SEVERAL times over the years. This Sunday we had the worst service ever. The restaurant was not busy - as the Lion King was playing at the Fox and most patrons had left when we arrived to make the show. We had to ask for skewers for our fondue, even though we had told our server we did not have any as he was preparing it. We sat for a significant amount of time between cheese and main entree course. Cheese residue was dried/burned on pot as we just sat there watching our server serve other tables. Drinks were not refilled - reorder for sauces took a long time. Again, long wait between main entree and dessert. Had to request dinnerware, AGAIN, for the dessert course. Sat and waited for a long time for our check and then for our check to be processed. VERY disappointed - this was a birthday celebration for an international student and his first visit to the Melting Pot. Was very embarrassed at the experience after we had hyped up what an amazing restaurant and experience this would be.
Brandon was our waiter and was the star of the evening. We were pre-dining before Lion King and simply could not be late. We requested all the courses at the same time (cheese, meats, fruit, chocolate dessert) and got them in minutes. It was FUN to switch from cheese, to steak, to an apple, to a chocolate dipped banana and back and forth. In spite of the lavish ordering we did, the bill was extremely reasonable.
Brandon was funny, knowledgeable, fast, and attentive even in small details like giving our two girls an extra marshmellow....little things like that make a restaurant successful.
Our server was actually amazing. Food and drinks were as to be expected. My only complaint was the extremely rude hostess who was eating at the hostess stand when we entered. Upon finally greeting us she asked if we had a reservation to which I responded yes and gave her my last name. She then informed me that I was a no show and should have called to which I responded by attempting to show her the reservation on my phone for 10pm...it was currently only 9:45. She rolled her eyes and finally after several minutes decided to seat us. The restaurant was at less that 20% capacity at this time.
We dined at the Melting pot on New Years Day (Evening). It was dirty and the service was horrible. It was easy to get reservations through open table even at the last minute so I do not think it was busy.
When we were seated there was a table across from us stacked with dishes. There were also two large serving trays of stacked dirty dishes alongside that same table. It was disgusting. They were not removed for 45 minutes after we were seated. The floors were dirty and lots of other tables had stacked dishes. The banquet room was stacked a mile high. Really, really gross.
The service was terrible. The server's name was Megan. Extremely long wait times before she took the order and in between table visits. Delivered food without silverware. Waited some more. Never took dirty dishes or menus. Waited some more. Cheese was gross and clearly didn't know how to make it. Just really really a bad waitress.
When the main courses came she messed them up even after we repeated to her several times so that the order was clear. She also turned the oil up so high it was spattering on my 11 year-old. Another waiter heard the splattering of the oil and came rushing over to turn it down and said not to use it for 3-5 minutes (as he knew how dangerous it was). She came back after 10-15 minutes, immediately turned up the oil again (we thought she turned it down) and it started to splatter again. My son had to go to the bathroom as some hit him in the head. I had to go find her and tell her it was a problem.
We then asked the other waiter to take care of us as we felt she was a dangerous waitress in addition to how long she kept making us wait. He agreed and we also asked for the manager. The manager was good about things and understood the danger, the filth, and overall terrible experience. He comped the entire meal. We didn't really care about that but really a good manager and used good judgment. He also said he would address the waitress.
I've been to many fondue restaurants, plenty of which were Melting Pot locations. This location in particular is in my neighborhood, so I frequent it quite a bit. Never have I ever been so disappointed with a meal here as I was my past visit.
My spouse and I were walking down town and decided to drop in for a casual pot of fondue around 7pm on a Thursday night. Though the restaurant was nearly empty, the manager told us that no seats were available for at least 2 and a half hours (which would have been about 9:30pm). As we walked out, I pulled out my phone to set a reservation for 2 so that we didnt have to wait when we came back. To my surprise, I found that the earliest reservation slot was for 8:30pm, and I booked it. We returned around 8:15pm, assuming we would be seated around our 8:30 reservation time--boy, were we wrong. Though the restaurant was STILL scarcely populated and ample staff were bustling around, we were not seated until 9pm. We waited about 10 minutes for a server, and we ordered everything immediately. After about 15 minutes, our salads arrived before our drinks.
At this point, I was ready to forgive-and-forget the horrible service in the hopes that a simple pot of the Classic Alpine fondue would save the night. I dont know what we did to deserve it, but our luck was nonexistent that night. The fondue was poorly and improperly prepared. We decided to deal with the food and end with a pot of milk chocolate fondue (as I did NOT want to bother with ordering an entrée).
I reluctantly paid the $40 bill, and we left around 10pm. Needless to say, it will be a long time until I attempt dinner at this location again.
We ended up walking out. No one was at the front to greet us for at least 5 minutes. After we were seated, no one came to our table for another 5 minutes. We finally ordered drinks and I had a bad feeling so I told the waiter that I did not want my food brought out until we got our drinks, even reminded him when asked us to order. We waited 10 minutes, and he brings out the food with no drinks. We walked out. No apology from anyone, and horrible experience. For what they charge, this should never happen at an upscale place. It was a special dinner for my 11yr old son too, and he was in tears.
This was our first time visiting Melting Pot and we will definitely be back! We we're seated in a cozy booth for two and it was almost like we were the only people there the area was so intimate. Server did a great job explaining the menu/overall experience to us. My only complaint would be that the server semi rushed through her introduction of the menu...so we had to ask her to repeat a few things but no biggie.
Our evening out was to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday. We couldn’t have picked a better spot in the entire city!
Our server “Michael” was phenominal! He understood right away this was a special treat for my daughter and treated her like royalty! He clearly explained the process and walked us through our choices. The food was better than great! We loved it so much, and will be back - with friends and/or family.
We will always remember our special night together at the Melting Pot!
The wait to be seated wasn't bad. Now waiting for anyone to even come and acknowledge we were there took 15 minutes, and after that there was at least a 20 to 30 minute break between dishes. The only time i saw any hustle was when i asked for the check. The food was good.
I have been bragging about the Melting Pot for years to my husband and we finally made it. We had reservations for dinner before going to The Nutcracker. The service was very slow and while our server was friendly enough, he made multiple errors. (He may need to start writing things down.) The food was fine, but I think the restaurant has lost some sophistication since I last went, as far as plating and presentation. Also, at any time during our meal, I could look over and see a tray full of dirty dishes sitting beside me in the aisle, which really bothered me. We each had a margarita and while the description sounded amazing, it tasted like bad fruit punch. Unfortunately we ran out of time and didn’t make it to dessert, which is my favorite. My husband says we can go to The Nutcracker again as long as we eat dinner somewhere else. We MIGHT come again just for dessert. I had been looking forward to the dinner for a long time and I unfortunately was very disappointed.
It's been YEARS since I have eaten at a Melting Pot and it used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I'm not sure I will ever go back. What should have been a leisurely dinner felt rushed. The amount of bread and vegetables for the cheese fondue was paltry-we had to ask for more of everything. The wedge salad was HALF of a wedge and the sauces for the meat were also skimpy. In general, for what it costs, I was unimpressed.
The service was not good at all here last night. Sat for ten minutes after I had to get up and say something to somebody before receiving water on table. Server (Chris I believe was his name) blamed the staff and the location of the table (in the very back of the restaurant up against a wall). To make up for it the server said she sat us with a really good, black, and funny server. Ironically, it wasn't that funny when throughout the night the server kept forgetting about us. It was a really long wait in between courses and receiving simple things as silverware and sauce refills once we finally got our entree. Dinner reservations were for 9pm couldn't get out of there until almost 11:30pm. Manager barely said anything to us after I requested her to speak on how upset we were. The server did compensate us for our drinks which was a nice gesture, I wish the service was better. Will not be going to that location ever again to spend that kind of money on a meal. I used to serve and this could of easily been just a really bad night unfortunately for us but it ended on a sour note because it is one of my favorite restaurant chains but now I do not think I will come back to this place especially since it was my boyfriend's birthday dinner and they almost ruined the night, so thanks.
