The Melting Pot - Albany Ratings and Reviews
The food was great, and while the prices are usually a bit high for a minimum wage budget, a coupon helped me follow through with plans, our server was quick to deliver our next course after we finished the previous one, and helped us with cook times for meats we were unfamiliar with.
Thanks for the great experience!
So relaxing! We walked in there feeling like the world was on our shoulders and how could we possibly relax enough to celebrate a birthday. And by the time we left, 2.5-hours later, we were so relaxed we felt like nothing could get us down. We felt closer together than ever. Truly a marvelous experience. Ask for lovers lane, take only your significant other, tell the babysitter you won't be back for a long time, and order some of their signature cocktails!
We are seasoned melting pot nuts. Would eat here weekly if we could. Nice variety of meats. You can specialize your menu to your liking. It is at least a 2 hour time frame depending on the amount of people in your party. We happen to enjoy the process. It gives us time to chat. Some don't like having to cook your own food. My only complaint was that we went for the brunch which was still on the website only to be told it's no longer available.
The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the tables are placed well apart. Our party of four bought two of the 4-course dinners to share, and it was more than enough for all of us. We thought that the cheese fondue appetizers and the chocolate fondue desserts were the best. The salads also were excellent. Regarding the entrees, we felt that the hot oil overpowered the flavor of the meat, poultry or fish so that we couldn't really taste the flavor of each. Just our opinion. The choices were very fresh, nothing wrong with them at all. There are many sauces to choose from, and it was difficult to remember what each one was. It would be better if the names were on the dishes. If we wanted more of the fruit or side dishes, more was provided quickly at no charge.
Always wanted to eat here so finally had the opportunity..had a fabulous fun time... Katie our waitress was attentive, competent and friendly and made our dining experience delightful... while it takes time to cook, dip and savor all the morcels on our plates we left plenty full and satisfied... plan on a 2-3 hour leisurely unique dining experience..Although a bit higher priced than other area chain restaurants, the unique dining experience is not something that can be rushed and well worth It!
Went there with another couple. We had a great time. Place was cozy with all private booths. Great wine , beer and cocktail list. Stephen our server was very friendly , knowledgeable , and eager to share his favorites and the best way to enjoy this type of dining. We all ordered the 4 course option and sat there eating and talking while each course came , each one totally different but as good or better than the last. Before we knew it several hours had gone by without us realizing it and we were on to the dessert course. The one thing I would recommend besides going there is to leave enough time to enjoy it, this is definitely not fast food. We are already talking about our next trip to the Melting Pot and who else to invite.
Not really our thing! I really wanted to love it but it was a two and a half hour experience. Way too long for dinner! The fondue pots had oil sizzling for over an hour at our table. By the time dinner was over, I was nauseated beyond belief. I just wasn't impressed-- it looked like you took bagged vegetables and placed them in small square white dishes and used supermarket pound cake for the desserts. More fresh fruit would have been better. Really expensive and so not worth the price. A huge rip off!!
My teenage son was recently diagnosed with Celiac's disease, so we are struggling to adjust and on the lookout for local GF dining options. We have been to the Melting Pot numerous times in the past, so I did a little research (including a call to the restaurant) to see if their gluten free menu could work for us. They do have a separate prep area, and give you the option to have separate fondue pots if your party includes both GF and non-GF diners. They use Udi's bread for the dippers, and adjust the dippers to eliminate any with gluten. You won't get the coated marshmallows for example, but there are still plenty of the usual favorites. We were happy to see that the Artisanal Dippers are still "on the table" for us. We had a great meal as always, and my son suffered no ill effects at all. We will be back!
the melting pot has fairly good food but it is more the experience you go there for. consider spending 3 - 4 hours because you are cooking your own food and having fun doing it. The host and waitress were awesome friendly and professional. its a little steep in price but again your paying for the experience more than just the food
Waitress was good but that's where my compliments stop. The food was ok but not worth the money. For 2 people it was $125 not including the tip and no there were no drinks involved either!!
I now remember why it's been almost 2 years since I went back....however my fiance loves the place, me though I think it's an over priced yuppy place....
We have eaten at this Melting Pot on numerous occasions. They are usually very good although pricy. This visit was not the best. My son ordered the kids plate with shrimp and steak. Turned out the shrimp was bad. The waitress was notified and although she asked him if he wanted more steak nothing else was done. I still had to pay for a plate of food that was no good. Not great service.
OUR HOST WAS AMAZING AND THE INTERACTION WAS TO MUCH FUN. WE WENT OUT FOR A GIRLS NOT WITHOUT HUSBANDS OR KIDS AND OUR HOST PLAYED RIGHT INTO IT, SHE WAS JUST GREAT . I WISH I COULD REMEMBER HER NAME BUT JUST KNOW YOU HAVE A GREAT HOSTESS ON YOUR HANDS AND IT WAS A GREAT TIME
On the pricey side; two adults and one child with tax and tip and 1 glass of wine ran $150, and the location inside a mall is OK if you like being in a mall. At least you can go shopping before or after. Still, the food was tasty, there were options for everyone--kids, vegetarians, gluten free, food allergies--and for that price we got a cheese fondue course, salads, main course, and chocolate fondue dessert. The child enjoyed cooking her own food in the fondue pots and had a blast; she now wants to have her next birthday party there. Claire was our server and she was friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful explaining the many options and procedures. So if you can afford the splurge, it's a fun evening out that beats a lot of the other humdrum mall options.
As always, food was excellent. Our waitress was new, but service was still at a high standard. The restaurant hasn't been significantly updated since opened, but it is well maintained and clean. Will continue to go as one of my top three choices for special occasions, though price is prohibitive for frequent dining.
Went for my birthday, had a great time! Wish I remembered our servers name, but she was very attentive and personable. We never felt like she "disappeared", as some servers do. She was very helpful and pleasant, which made the experience that much better. Our 4 course meal was great, as well as our drinks from the bar. I would recommend dining here.
I was very happy to spend Mothers Day at the melting pot. The new menu they offered on that day was amazingly delicious. Smoked salmon everything! They also gave out complimentary drinks for mothers. I was stuffed before desserts, so they gave me a ticket to come back another day for a free chocolate fondue. I literally had no more room to eat, so I'm glad they offered me that option. Order the four course experience. It's worth it!
This was my 2nd time in a month. First visit was good. 2nd visit was poor. I asked to not be seated in a busy hall but they did. The portions were small. We ordered 4 course meals and the portions were embarrassing. Literally there were 3 carrot pieces, 2 pieces of celery and one large broccoli and other scraps of broccoli. One plate had shaved like paper meat and there were 3 mall pieces of chicken. We did not have enough food for 3 people. I mentioned to the waitress that when my husband and I came we had better portions and sizes and only ordered one 4 course meal. We had the chocolate fondue and there was barley enough to coat the items we were dipping. I told the waitress and she said it was a double order, NO WAY! She did end up bringing more and more things to dip as there wasn't much of that either. I was very disappointed and embarrassed because I am the one that urged the girls to go. It was my best friends birthday. We spend over $100 and left hungry. The restaurant didn't even do anything for her for her birthday. One note, Shaun DID give us the 2 orders of cheese. He was not our waiter however. I will not return or recommend the restaurant. By the way, we drove over an hour to go there.
We enjoyed the cheese and chocolate. The salad was disappointing. The "dinner" was smell, especially the vegetarian meal. Our server was very slow. We also did not receive information about what was being made she just "put it all in". She was friendly but not enthusiastic. For the price of the dinner, I did not feel it was a lot of food. This was my first experience and overall our group of 4 was disappointed.
So my Fiancee had eaten here before and suggested we go back, as I had never tried Fondue. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff was right on top of everything. They were friendly and energetic, but not overwhelmingly so. The went way out of their way to ensure we had a good time.
My lady has a few food allergies, so normally her menu choices are fairly limited,, but the staff worked very hard to identify where her allergens were and eliminate them so she could basically eat whatever she wanted. The owner even came out with the allergen guide and reviewed the entire menu with her. He then came back later on to make sure we had been taken care of. So the food was amazing, and all her dietary restrictions were easily and eagerly addressed.
I work in a customer service industry, and as such, am very aware of when a business does well, or fails. The Melting Pot in Albany did a spectacular job, 10 out of 10, and completely nailed it. They exceeded our expectations and made our evening experience an outstanding one. I can't recommend them highly enough.
