Elegant atmosphere and wonderful food. Our server, Rebecca picked the perfect wines to go with dinner. The scallops were fantastic, the sea bass superb and the octopus tender and flavorful. The dark chocolate mousse with milk chocolate cremeux , chocolate sponge, white chocolate coconut ganache, almond pavlova and cherry gelato was seriously the best dessert I’ve ever eaten.
The La Valencia is historically a wonderful place to stay or dine.
There is not a better view or location.
We were at the restaurant for a small shower and the service was impeccable and the food was just perfect for our brunch.
I would highly recommend it for couple, quiet celebrations, and an very nice place to dine.
Its a lovely restaurant but not stuffy.
Excellent. Our fave “go-to” for Sunday brunch.
The restaurant has some beautiful views of the pacific and an old world charm. Unfortunately, the food does not justify the cost of the experience. We ordered the brunch board to start - $18 for two pieces of cheese, a small choc croissant, a small butter croissant, and a few pieces of fruit? Hmm - the pastries were pedestrian and puny.
I had the blue crab and goat cheese omelet. Not bad - a decent amount of blue crab, but it was generally lacking in flavor. My wife had the chilaquiles without the shrimp. Again - no flavor. We had asked for jalapeños but didn’t get them. The fresh toast was good, and the açaí bowl was fine.
I would have expected more for $120 (incl tip) for 4 people with only two coffees as beverages.
Amazing everything especially the service! The wait for food was incredible !
Great view and good food. Had a really nice time there. Beautiful place to have brunch.
Beautiful location, very relaxing, with a delicious menu! Easy kids menu as well.
Restaurant was beautiful & not very crowded. Waitress was exceptional & the food excellent
Overall meal was good. The view from the patio was excellent and the service was very good. Great place for a nice lunch
The location and food were excellent. Service was slow by any measure. Initial greeting by server took an extended time. That said, drinks arrived timely after we ordered. We ordered a mixed green salad to share as the first course and that took more than 20 minutes to arrive. It was clear that other tables were being given celebrate status treatment as we watched them receive attention from our server. When the entres arrived, the food was outstanding and the recommended wines were excellent.
February evenings are still chilly in La Jolla and at one point the outdoor heater near our table was taken away and given to another table. All the heaters were in a row down the center aisle and this heater was pulled out of the main aisle and placed within a few feet of the table just seated. Nobody asked or even acknowledged the need for a move.
The Med at La Valencia hotel is a gem! The outdoor terrace has amazing views of the La Jolla shoreline. They have an extensive wine list. Our waitress was amazing! She made us feel as though we were her only table. We both ordered the lobster roll. Mine came with a generous side salad, and the other came with tasty french fries. Everything was just perfect!
Superb, always. Serving staff was exceptional. Food was wonderful. “Customer first” was obvious. Guest was, as all of our guests are when we come in, most impressed.
We’ll be back soon.
Delicious food, served expertly by very professional staff, in a gorgeous setting with a fabulous view of the Pacific. Couldn't have been better!
This review is only critical of the food itself.
Service and ambience and cleanliness were all excellent.
We were given a beautiful table right on the corner of the balcony, closest to the water.
My partner chose a lobster roll , which was excellent,
and a salad of mixed greens, which was not.
My salmon hash was poorly put together- the salmon and potatoes very over cooked, and eggs were slightly over cooked. I was surprised. Salmon hash is not that hard to prepare.
It also turned out the hot water for tea was lukewarm.
There are a lot of beautiful places to dine with a view in La Jolla. I would have to think twice about returning, if I’m planning to eat....
We really enjoyed the patio of the Med while enjoying a nice brunch
I love the ocean view and the fresh air. The food was mediocre.
The hotel needs better maintenace. There is mold growing on the exterior white ceiling, and the common areas were not very clean.
Business was slow on a Saturday night. It must be off-season. There were just a few occupied tables.
There was only one waitress who was busy and appeared to be doing everything, but she was very professional and nice. We sat by a window, and there was a large pink rag left there from window cleaning. Nobody noticed until we asked to have it removed. (See photo.)
Drinks were good. Bread was unremarkble. Our main courses were delicious, but I wish my dish was a little hotter. It was just luke warm, but very tasty.
The ocean view was excellent, and it was an overall nice experience.
Met friends for Sunday brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday at this beautiful spot in la Jolla. Service was excellent, the food was delicious and there was a fun selection of different types of mimosas. We enjoyed everything and hope to return soon!
I live locally and this is one of my favorite places to dine. The food is excellent and the ocean view is spectacular.
This is my favorite “special brunch” place. The views, staff and food are outstanding. Just perfect place.
One reminder is to bring your sunglasses.
This was our first time dining at The Med. We based our selection on the reviews I read before we visited from out of town. Our reservation was for 7:15 pm. The food was good but we won't be returning. The appetizers we chose were delicious, mushrooms and a mediterranean hummus platter. We didn't eat one of our main dishes because it was very fishy. I cook scallops all the time and these were not good. Our server didn't charge us for the dish which was nice. The prices were fine and the service was pretty good but overall I wouldn't go again. I think this might be better as a lunch experience especially because you could then see the view because at night in the winter its too dark to see it.
The food was wonderful, the staff was very gracious and it was a pleasant experience.
I recommend the hotel/restaurants and I plan to go back
I have been here so many times before and been nothing but ultimately impressed. Today the salmon was very fishy and not fresh tasting. I must say when we pointed out to the staff however they took 2 entrees off of our bill and brought us a special treat. They really tried hard to make it right. If you go for brunch and want the what is usually delicious salmon belly hash, please ask if the salmon is very fresh!
Mixed review. Quiche was lackluster and the fruit on the plate was not ripe or flavorful. Server forgot my order of an english muffin.
When we were seated the table was dirty - a few areas were sticky. I asked the busboy to wipe the sticky areas and he wiped one area. I had to ask again to wipe the other areas.
I ordered a Bloody Mary which came with tired looking lemon and lime wedges that had spots on them.
Sorry to give such a critical review but that was my experience. Thank you for the opportunity to give you feedback.
Excellent food and service in a gorgeous setting. Couldn’t have had a better evening meal with friends.
We went to the Hotel for an enjoyable New Years Eve dinner at $150 per person. The service was very slow and very inattentive. The servor appologized several times for not being able to get to us as she was over-booked and they were grossly understaffed.
Very disappointing for the Med!
We could have had a better experience with just as good food with much better service at the Marine Room or another upscale venue for the same or less money.
We had a wonderful time bringing in the new year at The Med. The menu was exquisite! The wine pairing on par and friendly service! It was a festive and fun night for all who attended New Years Eve 2017-18. Not a shabby party at all! Cheers!
Chef Dana is absolutely fantastic! He creates interesting dishes that are not only beautiful to the eye, but phenomenal to the palette. I recommend this place for date night or for a group. Will definitely be back!!
Made reservation for brunch, called to confirm that brunch was still being served even though we were 15 minutes late for our table, yet they only offered the very basic mid day menu when we arrived.
Food was just ok , and very overpriced . 3 small pieces of chicken with about 4 tiny halves of asparagus for 34 .00 was disappointing. The service in the evening dinner was very good. The service for breakfast was adequate . Missed the way it was years ago. Coffee in mug to sit down with in the morning was fine in the bar , but I missed the the past, when you could be served in a nice cup and saucer. Still had a nice time staying there for one night.
Restaurant in nice hotel, service was excellent, food very good, but pricier than the $ listing, much more like a $$.
Food was cold, no heaters where we sat, huried experience, not good timing for wine pairing
The Med was perfect for Christmas Eve Lunch/Brunch. Of course a beautiful La Jolla Day! The staff couldn't have been nicer accommodating our preference to move outside. And food was great. A gem in San Diego!
Food was cold and service VERY SLOW.
View and building were gorgeous- they need a new chef
So let down with my second visit. Really enjoyed the first time, so eager to return. Disappointed with ambiance (stuck in almost empty side room by the kitchen when there weee plenty other open tables), food selection and taste, and mediocre service.
The restaurant accommodated our request for outdoor seating and when it became chilly offered us blankets and the option to move inside. We stayed outside and had the most magnificent view of the ocean. The hostess and waiters were excellent as was the food. I will definitely return!
We had a lovely table overlooking the pool area and the ocean.luis was our waiter and the service was excellent. I had the lamb and my husband had the seafood paella - both were excellent. A special meal and well worth the extra dollar.
Our server, Rachel, went out of her way to help us celebrate a fabulous birthday breakfast. Superb food and breathtaking view. A must-stop for us when we’re in La Jolla
We enjoyed our first Thanksgiving dinner in Southern California. This restaurant had a terrific buffet that featured an excellent mix of traditional Thanksgiving food as well as other items that were fantastic.
Additionally the service was top notch and live music really made the evening.
I would highly recommend The Med for any special occasion.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner. The price was higher than posted on Open Table, and the food was just so-so. Disappointed. Maybe their regular menu is better.
