Rebecca was a star at serving us — advising us thoroughly on menu choices, introducing us to Bob, the seagull, and making sure that dinner a very excellent experience. The food was beautiful, very fresh and flavorful. I would recommend The Med highly.
I’m so glad my daughter and I went for brunch during our vacation to San Diego.
Great location and good service for our Sunday brunch, but the lobster in the roll and crab in the omelette were not fresh and most of our meals came out rather cold. Prices were what is to be expected, but the value was not there.
Been here a few times, the view from the terrace is amazing. The food is not bad, but don’t expect too
Much. The service is just ok, nothing special at all. You would expect the service to be great, especially because it’s a beautiful hotel in La Jolla,
The weather in La Jolla has been blazing hot, and 4 girlfriends were looking for an air conditioned spot to have lunch. We are all long-time La Jolla residents who have enjoyed eating and entertaining at La Valencia for the past 3 or 4 decades. What a disappointment this lunch was. We each ordered the Crab Louis salad because it the past, it had been one of the stand-out items on the menu. On this day, the salad consisted of a handful of wilted romaine lettuce, one cherry tomato cut in half, one or two croutons, and approximately two tablespoons of crab salad, which was mostly mayonnaise, and had no crab taste whatsoever. This meager dish was $28. We had to ask for bread, and what we received was stale, and came with one small dish of butter for the four of us to share. Our lunch cost $42 per person, for the salad and a beverage only, plus $10 (plus tip) for parking because of course they don't validate. The servers seemed bored and uninterested in providing any service. We texted each other two hours later because we were all starving since our lunch for $52 a person basically consisted of no real food. La Valencia should be embarrassed about serving this "meal" but the feeling I got was that no one cared.
View n ambiance great good setting
Pricesvon the high side so valuw for money so so
Great sunset n view makes it very nice though
We had an excellent lunch on a Sunday. Very pleasant and convenient, as we walked from St James church to the Valencia. Excellent service and good value. We were on the outside balcony and it was very pleasant. The price was reasonable for the setting, food, and service.
Went to The Med at La Valencia for my birthday with my husband and daughter. We had the Sunday Brunch and I ordered the Steak & Eggs. My steak was slightly undercooked which was probably my own fault for not being more specific about how I wanted it. They were so kind, took it back and gave me a whole new plate with a perfectly delicious steak even though I had eaten half of the eggs, potatoes, etc. The waitress was very nice about it. They brought me a plate of yummy birthday macaroons. The view was stunning and we went on a nice walk on the beach afterwards. I Highly recommend this place!
Caught the sunset out on the veranda. Comfortable place to eat dinner. Live music inside was easily enjoyed outside. The beef tartare, rabbit, and beef tenderloin were all excellent.
Outstanding food and service, overall just wonderful
Excellent location in La Jolla! Beautiful ocean view from balcony is the icing on the cake for this superb restaurant - excellent menu and service. AAA+++
Nice ambiance! The view is the best from the terrace.
Fuimos a experimentar una agradable vista con un menú exquisito, ¡muy recomendado!
Completely underwhelming experience. The restaurant and view are spectacular, but the food and service leave a lot to be desired. The portion sizes for one are miniscule for such high prices; the quality of some of the food was very high, but some things were strange -- stale bread, over salted pasta, hard cooked chicken. Service was inattentive and indifferent, especially when these odd things happened, but they did take off the inedible chicken and comped us 2 desserts, but their lack of care and followup led to an overall disappointing experience.
All entrees are overpriced..... Delicious but .... Early evening brings lots of sun in your eyes. Bring a hat and sun glasses.
Service was very courteous and attentive and the food arrived quickly.
Not good. Expensive and small portions plus noisy.
Paella doesn't have any rice huh?
So skip it!
We've been to The Med a few times and have never been disappointed. Excellent food, views and service.
Everything was good except the pork chop- skip it!
The view was amazing.
However, The hummus plate contained 2 giant blobs of hummus, one of which was way too spicy for the average diner. I could not eat it.
We came here on a friend’s recommendation. It was perfect! We sat outside on a lovely patio for a gorgeous sunset view. We enjoyed delicious, interesting food and would definitely come here again!
We come ever year on our wedding anniversity, and we love the food
We were in La Jolla for a wedding and had dinner here the night before. Food was excellent if not a little overpriced but then this is La Jolla right? View was incredible with amazing sunset. Waitress was competent but smacked of an attitude which was not appreciated (but not bad enough to complain). We had had drinks in the bar earlier and service was friendly and professional (which is why we chose it for dinner).
I went to this restaurant with one of my daughters to celebrate her recent returned from overseas. Everything about the night was fabulous. The presentation of the food was spot on and the licious. On top of that there was a live entertainment and we had an incredible evening.
Great food! Amazing service and the view!
Outstanding setting and service. While the meal tasted very good, the portions were very small especially considering the price of the meal.
Neither of us are big eaters, but we did not leave satisfied.
Beautiful view but food is mediocre and servers have no emotion. My shrimp and grits dish had potential but arrived with no butter or salt and the shrimp was over cooked and chewy. Server took our teabag away after we asked for more hot water and never came back. Such a failure for such a beautiful location.
God awful. One of the worst meals I've ever had. And it was chicken. Who can screw up chicken? These guys. Luke-warm thigh pieces wrapped in skin and fat. Barely edible. Paired with some green soupy stuff and shavings of asparagus. The service matched the food. The waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there, or at least didn't want to be serving us. She couldn't have been less friendly, and seemed put out we asked for the whereabouts of bread we ordered almost as soon as we sat down. I could go on and on, but I won't. Bottom line, we'll never go back, and wish we'd never gone there in the first place.
Loved this restaurant! We enjoyed the Mother’s Day brunch buffet. The weather cleared up perfectly and we were seated right by the huge window with a view of the water. Food was excellent and our waiter Tanner was very nice.
The service was excellent. The food varies. I have had some items that are wonderful while others are not to be desired.
We’ve eaten here for the past 4 years and were impressed with their regular menu on Mother’s Day. This year, they switched it up and did a buffet style which was really lackluster for $89/person. When I was called 2 weeks prior to confirm, I was not informed that it was a buffet or that it would be $89/person. What a surprise for my wife, mother in law and I (who are all doing keto right now) to find that the only option available was the buffet. If I would have known it was a buffet at $89/person I would have switched my reservation. I’ll chalk this up to a learning experience for the future, but in the moment I was pretty bummed to spend that much for something that we didn’t want.
They need to stick to what they’re good at which is their standard brunch and dinner menus. They’re fantastic. Service can be a little spotty at times at dinner if you’re on the terrace because sometimes the wait staff have tables in the main sitting room so it’s quite a walk for them.
We had a wonderful Mother’s Day brunch at the Med. One thing however was disturbing. We were initially seated at a back tiny balcony for 2 after I requested a balcony seat. We did not accept this as there was a very noisy table of 16 immediately next to us. We were ultimately seated at the main balcony were 4 tables of 2 were readily available. I found the attempt to put us in this off spot very unnecessary
Was there for Mother's Day brunch and had a wonderful time.
Beautiful setting, but sitting on the Patio is cold. The food was beautiful and not huge portions but more than adequate. Service was a little slow and difficult to get refills on the water and drinks while you wait for your food. Even so we will be back.
Rebekah has served us before and was excellent as always! We got engaged here so this place is extremely close to our hearts, and continues to impress us every time we come back.
Pretentious and expensive. Food was created by an executive chef and it was interesting and a few of the items were OK, but most of our dishes were not very good. Not a place I will go back to, there are so many better places in La Jolla. Outdoor patio dining had a nice view of the ocean and the sunset. Inside they had some hack singers trying to sing Sinatra and Italian arias but they were annoying and irritating.
The restaurant was empty at prime dining hour which was clearly an indication.
Menu is lacking.
Food was mediocre.
Staff killed us with kindness but was not attentive.
Really the only thing this spot has going for it is the killer views.
Not a value at all and I will not return.
Very beautiful view sitting out on the terrace. A misunderstanding with our outside reservation but they took care of it as quickly as possible. Overall a lovely lunch.
DIsappointing for the price. Excellent soup and starter. Main dishes too sparse.
