Peter was the best waiter - he was very attentive to details. The service as a whole was outstanding from all the staff.
A true delight. It was a first time for myself and my friend. Everything was excellent. The drinks were first rate. My cobb salad was as much a pleasure to look at to eat. We both had lobster rolls and it was like being in Maine. We will definitely be back!
We had a lovely dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Food and service were outstanding! Beautifully presented and delicious. A small detail that my husband really loved-the milk for his coffee was pre warmed. Very nice touch.
It’s an hour drive for us, but we make our way there 2-3 times a year, it’s well worth the drive for a special occasion . And in the spring/summer, their gardens are spectacular!
We had a wonderful dinner with our Grandson. Very special.
It's always a special treat to dine at the Mayflower. The staff is excellent, the dining room is beautiful and the food excellent and well-prepared.
The only options were a 4 course meal for $75 or 5 courses for $95. We chose the 4 course option. The portions were small but good. Some were outstanding. Steak entres were flavorful and very tender. The fish was a little over-salted. I had chocolate mouse for dessert - I've had better. Our waiter was very professional and friendly, but the service seemed very slow. It could have been the fault of the kitchen. We waited a long time between courses, and since the portions were small and quickly consumed, there were long periods of waiting for the next course. Wine was expensive we only ordered one glass apiece. It is a good place for a leisurely, drawn out meal, especially if you want to spring for more wine. The dining room is much quieter than most dining areas these days. That was enjoyable.
Stopped here for lunch on a beautiful fall weekend and had the opportunity to have seating outside. There was a warm sun and cool breeze that made the experience truly enjoyable. The wait staff was exceptional and knowledgeable about the facility and the area's events/attractions. The menu was diverse and offered many options for everyone. The lobster roll was as good as Maine and the appetizers were scrumptious.
Awful. Old sedate crowd. Make sure you whisper when you are there... service is great ... gave the server a 45% gratuity and she meant to come out to thank us ? Seriously? Certainly not worth the drive ... nothing special
The Mayflower is one of the loveliest and more elegant hotels in southern New England - if not the best. Our lunch in the dining room was superb. The room itself is LOVELY and we had a view of the beautiful gardens below. The food DELICIOUS. Service beyond compare. What a phenomenal experience. WE WILL BE BACK!
The primary issue with this dining experience was an overzealous waiter who was constantly interrupting what was intended to be a casual lunch/conversation asking to remove plates between servings....even when only one of us had completed eating. I assume the waiter was trying hard to be efficient, but we were not dining at a fast food restaurant. Proper training of the staff to assure they appreciate the cadence of dining at a high end/high priced restaurant would be in order.
The crab cakes were flavorful and not full of breading!
The fishing the day was superbly prepared; and the local vegetables were excellent.
The wines by the glass were poured generosly, too!
I highly recommend the Dining Room.
We arrived 20 minutes early. The greeter immediately asked if we would like to be seated or enjoy a drink outside. We had drinks on the patio and decided we would like to eat outside. Of course and she set up a table for us. The food was unbelievably excellent. The service first rate.
We went for our wedding anniversary and the waiter brought us Petit Four with "Happy Anniversary" written on the plate. A truly wonderful experience!
Wonderful outdoor dining in a lovely relaxing environment. A memorable two hour dining experience.
Outstanding in every respect. Ambiance, greeting upon arrival, service throughout dinner and food/wine. The rack of lamb and bass entrees were truly outstandingly delicious. As patrons of the Mayflower for many years, this evening's meal was by far our best. The Mayflower Inn is definitely back as a high end, exquisite dining destination.
We celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary at the Mayflower Grace and it was a wonderful evening. The menu was very creative and offered a wide variety of delicious options. Every dish was perfectly prepared, well seasoned and accompanied by delicious sauces. The service was outstanding- very attentive and friendly. The view from the dining room is toward their beautiful Shakespeare garden, which was in full bloom. Do as we did and give yourself extra time to explore the garden and grounds before dinner. The restaurant is set in the historic Mayflower Inn, which is a lovely building with gorgeous interiors. We wished we had looked into staying for the night. We had drinks in the bar before dinner and the atmosphere is understated and elegant but not stuffy.
Fantastic service. Entrees were prepared well and the cocktails fabulous. Great night!
Actually, we were on the patio overlooking the lovely gardens, on a beautiful sunny day. Care, service, food and wine were outstanding and I look forward to going back soon.
Enjoyable evening with good food, very good wine and attentive/professional service. The main dining room in the inn is spacious and provides an elegant setting. While the appetizers and entrees were quite good and interestingly presented, the portion size vs. the price resulted in the lower Value rating. I will note that the martini served was "off" (likely not the vodka ordered or too much vermouth when I ordered it very dry) but it is my fault that I did not send it back. My wife noted her opening glass of champagne was exceptional.
Five of us enjoyed a delightful birthday luncheon at the Mayflower. No one had any complaints. The setting is stunning. We overlooked a formal garden from the comfort of the beautiful dining room. Our service was flawless. The Grace cocktail is sublime. The Ethopian coffee is delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my starter course of cold spring pea soup. I followed that up with a delicious sole dish sautéed in brown butter with fava beans. The lemon tart is light and airy with no crust and accompanied by a raspberry sorbet. There was nothing that I would not wholeheartedly recommend. I will certainly be back.
Food is not very good. Service is excellent
The food was delicious. Just felt menu was very limited and the price for eggplant was very high
Beautiful restaurant with good service and good food. Pricey, yes, but ideal for special occasions (I was there for my 33rd wedding anniversary)! Highly recommend!
We enjoyed a wonderful Sat before Easter gourmet meal at the Mayflower Grace. Fireplaces roaring, spring flowers everywhere, table lamps, and beautiful place settings all set the mood for a romantic memorable evening. The food and wine were exquisite, beautifully served, and delicious. The calamari appetizer, bibb salad, and roxbury chicken were sensational. The wait staff attentive and courteous. It couldn't have been better. We are planning our return in the near future and will be bringing all of our out of town guests here.
Wonderful experience for my birthday. Small issue of finding a hair in my entree after I had already eaten most of it. However, they handled the situation appropriately and respectfully. Overall a great experience and I will go back again!
We went for my daughter's birthday and had a great evening. Great up market ambiance, lovely food and terrific service. Highly recommended.
The team at the restaurant was very efficient and paid a lot of attention to our needs and special requests. The food was delicious.
Amazing service and incredible foods. Always a place that I would recommend!
Excellent Food ,Service, atmosphere .Calamari appetizer tender, flavorful unique, suckling pig full of flavor, beef short rib was fork tender and yummy.Roasted Turbot was like nothing else soft and velvety . Desserts over the top.Server was the Best !
Thank you for the lovely evening - our guests enjoyed the experience
We arrived for 1PM reservation with friends who had driven over a hour for a "charming lunch in a high end country inn". Our party of 4 was seated at an approximately 3 ft by 3 ft table temporarily set up in a side room. We were told that the carpets were being cleaned in the normal dining areas. When the bread basket arrived we had to move glasses and silverware on the table to make room. The daily menus presented to us were falling out of the binders and one of the menus was not the menu for that day. When the food was served it was difficult to fit the plates on the table again requiring movement of glasses and the use of a side table to hold the bread basket. The food served was OK but nothing special. Our waitress deserves a "A for effort" but the service level was not outstanding as should be expected at a high priced establishment. (The cost of our lunch was approximately $250.00 with tip!)
This was a very disappointing experience. As long time patrons, we have seen the Mayflower go through dramatic ups and downs during ownership changes but we were impressed with the ambiance, food and service during two recent visits. This experience will cause us to hesitate before taking family or friends to the Mayflower in the future until we can determine if today's experience was an aberration or "the new normal".
4 of us had the dining room to ourselves this week! Service was attentive, food delicious and timing was not rushed! Very enjoyable experience! Pricing was actually a bit less than I anticipated, except for the wine. I am certain that the weekends a busier, but an excellent destination!
The only negative is that the restaurants' flooring/carpet was in need of replacement
Pricey, but worth the trip for a special occasion. Location is beautiful.
An excellent place for lunch or dinner; one could discuss various subjects in a beautiful atmosphere.
My mother and I came here for dinner for my birthday and it was spectacular!
This was my first visit to the Mayflower Grace. We went to celebrate my 29th birthday the last October.I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan, and this Inn was the inspiration for the creator of the show Amy Sherman-Palladino. According to articles, she wrote the pilot for the show while she stayed at the inn.
The food and service were amazing, very friendly and helpful staff, the food, in particular, was great, we had the Oysters, Foie gras, and scallops for appetizers and the lamb and halibut for our entrees. Everything was cooked to perfection. Will definitely come for other celebrations, I really want to see the Inn during the day and enjoy the view from those pretty windows they have in the dining room.
The evening experience was superb
Spot on dining. Outstanding in every respect. The staff was attentive but not obtrusive. It was quiet. The tables are nicely placed for privacy.
This is the fancier of the two restaurants at the Mayflower Inn Grace. "Smart casual" probably best describes the dress of the patrons, although lots of variations on that. First, the food is great. New chef Issac Olivo has transformed the menu. We had Veloute of corn (soup) with super tender Maryland crab, entrees trout with potato puree, and dill sauce, beef tenderloin with sweet grilled carrots and asparagus, penne Bolognese from heaven, (two nights dining there). Dessert also incredible blackberry mousse for me, Black Forest cake for wife. Everything is super-fresh and delicately seasoned. Coffee was hot and rich. Service very friendly but also professional and alert. They have totally transformed this restaurant from previous more modest version.
We've been coming here for
