The Dining Room at Grace Mayflower Inn & Spa
We like this restaurant very much but are never sure if a great dining experience will be followed by a poor one. Not certain if there have been management changes and/or chef changes but we have had both great and poor experiences. We are hoping that the Mayflower is on an upward trajectory which it can maintain going forward.
The food has improved considerably since Auberge Resorts, the new owners, took over the Inn. My Dover sole was excellent.
Superior in every aspect. Exquisite menu, exceptional presentation, knowledgeable waitstaff and perfect timing between courses. Simply elegant dining room. The only criticism we had, was an over anxious young man who before anyone had a chance to taste their food was asking everyone how it was... This happened after each of our 3 courses... We all found it somewhat
annoying. If he had just let some time pass between the delivery of the plate and his approaching to ask - I’m certain I would have given an outstanding star for service.
We look forward to returning.
We booked last minute to celebrate a birthday! We got the beat seat in the house with an amazing view of the garden. Service was impeccable, wine was fab, the fish sandwich was a bit short on the fish.
Anniversary. Every other couple offered champagne and we weren’t. A bit disappointing
This is a beautiful place. “Gracious” is the word . The service is impeccable, comfortable, friendly, and welcoming. The food is good, well prepared and nicely presented. If you are looking for creative cuisine, this is not the place, but there is something very satisfying in an an excellent meal, perfectly prepared and presented , offered with care, within a soothing ambience.
My best friend of 20 years and I were in town for the Gilmore Girls Fan Festival. The Grace Mayflower Inn was an inspiration for the show and was where the show’s writer penned part of the first season. We couldn’t imagine a better place to wrap up our trip than with a delicious brunch in the setting where the show began. The food was delicious, the dining room and entire property were beautiful, and the waiters and inn staff couldn’t have been nicer. We were encouraged to take as many pictures as we liked, and they even treated us to a box of fresh pastries to go!
We had an amazing dining experience at the Grace Mayflower! What a wonderful place to celebrate an anniversary! We felt so special!
Upscale, and worth the price. My wife was very happy, so I'm happy.
Service very good. Ambiance nice. Meal nothing special for the prices.
Such a wonderful experience. Have been multiple times and will be going back soon.
Food and service was impressive
The beautiful setting, graciously appointed dining room, and friendliness of the personnel make you want to forget the shortcomings of this lovely venue. But, a high end restaurant such as the Grace Mayflower should remember to serve every course (they forgot our starter), cook the food to the temperature requested, and check regularly on the needs of the customer. Those things did not happen during our visit. This restaurant has many pleasures and we'll probably return. But, if you plan to go you may not have the perfect experience you'd expect from a restaurant this expensive.
Overall, we had a good dining experience. This was not our first time at the Mayflower and we have seen peaks and valleys over a number of years as it has changed ownership/management. On this occasion the service was attentive but seemed to lack experience. When our salads were delivered and we said yes to ground pepper, the waiter applied the pepper to my salad first and then to my wife’s salad. Perhaps this is an “old school” concern but in the fine dining/upscale restaurants that we frequent, this is the norm and something I expect. I ordered the $52 ribeye “rare plus or the rare side of medium rare”. The steak I received was on the well side of medium well. I clearly could have returned it but it would have disrupted the flow of dinner as my wife’s entree had arrived and was fully acceptable to her. The salads and wild mushroom sides were exceptional and the “wines by the glass”, which followed very well prepared mixed drinks, provided a very nice selection.
Bottom line: we will return but I will be more prescriptive when ordering and will discreetly assure that my wife is given priority by the waiters.
Wonderful anniversary dinner on the patio.
My family enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Mayflower. Food was delicious and the service was impecable. We felt very welcomed and well taken care of. Thanks for a great evening. Will be returning very soon.
We sat on the outside terrace under an umbrella, enjoying the lovely garden and a relaxed delicious Saturday lunch. The melon gazpacho and lobster roll were the stars.... but we also enjoyed the avocado toast and the impossible burger! Nice food presentation and excellent service.
Superb in every way: excellent food, excellent service, breathtaking view. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion, such as our anniversary.
We love going to the. Mayflower. This time we tried brunch, as we wanted to see the garden. Sadly the garden was disappointing, hedges needed trimming, roses hadn’t bloomed yet. Brunch was nice, but quite expensive for basically a menu you could get most anywhere. The coat per couple was $168 including a 20T gratuity for eggs Benedict, a cocktail and wine for the table. Our waiter, Brian was excellent, very attentive and professional, as well as a great sense of humor.
As longtime patrons of the Mayflower Inn, we were exceptionally pleased with the our entire dining experience. The Grace group has returned the restaurant to its original outstanding level of ambiance, service and quality of food. I highly recommend this New England jewel.
Great food, drinks and service. Gorgeous place to spend a special occasion. All of our meals were excellent and a great wine list! Cant wait to head back to sit on back porch over looking the beautiful gardens.
Peter was the best waiter - he was very attentive to details. The service as a whole was outstanding from all the staff.
A true delight. It was a first time for myself and my friend. Everything was excellent. The drinks were first rate. My cobb salad was as much a pleasure to look at to eat. We both had lobster rolls and it was like being in Maine. We will definitely be back!
We had a lovely dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Food and service were outstanding! Beautifully presented and delicious. A small detail that my husband really loved-the milk for his coffee was pre warmed. Very nice touch.
It’s an hour drive for us, but we make our way there 2-3 times a year, it’s well worth the drive for a special occasion . And in the spring/summer, their gardens are spectacular!
We had a wonderful dinner with our Grandson. Very special.
It's always a special treat to dine at the Mayflower. The staff is excellent, the dining room is beautiful and the food excellent and well-prepared.
The only options were a 4 course meal for $75 or 5 courses for $95. We chose the 4 course option. The portions were small but good. Some were outstanding. Steak entres were flavorful and very tender. The fish was a little over-salted. I had chocolate mouse for dessert - I've had better. Our waiter was very professional and friendly, but the service seemed very slow. It could have been the fault of the kitchen. We waited a long time between courses, and since the portions were small and quickly consumed, there were long periods of waiting for the next course. Wine was expensive we only ordered one glass apiece. It is a good place for a leisurely, drawn out meal, especially if you want to spring for more wine. The dining room is much quieter than most dining areas these days. That was enjoyable.
Stopped here for lunch on a beautiful fall weekend and had the opportunity to have seating outside. There was a warm sun and cool breeze that made the experience truly enjoyable. The wait staff was exceptional and knowledgeable about the facility and the area's events/attractions. The menu was diverse and offered many options for everyone. The lobster roll was as good as Maine and the appetizers were scrumptious.
Awful. Old sedate crowd. Make sure you whisper when you are there... service is great ... gave the server a 45% gratuity and she meant to come out to thank us ? Seriously? Certainly not worth the drive ... nothing special
The Mayflower is one of the loveliest and more elegant hotels in southern New England - if not the best. Our lunch in the dining room was superb. The room itself is LOVELY and we had a view of the beautiful gardens below. The food DELICIOUS. Service beyond compare. What a phenomenal experience. WE WILL BE BACK!
The primary issue with this dining experience was an overzealous waiter who was constantly interrupting what was intended to be a casual lunch/conversation asking to remove plates between servings....even when only one of us had completed eating. I assume the waiter was trying hard to be efficient, but we were not dining at a fast food restaurant. Proper training of the staff to assure they appreciate the cadence of dining at a high end/high priced restaurant would be in order.
The crab cakes were flavorful and not full of breading!
The fishing the day was superbly prepared; and the local vegetables were excellent.
The wines by the glass were poured generosly, too!
I highly recommend the Dining Room.
We arrived 20 minutes early. The greeter immediately asked if we would like to be seated or enjoy a drink outside. We had drinks on the patio and decided we would like to eat outside. Of course and she set up a table for us. The food was unbelievably excellent. The service first rate.
We went for our wedding anniversary and the waiter brought us Petit Four with "Happy Anniversary" written on the plate. A truly wonderful experience!
Wonderful outdoor dining in a lovely relaxing environment. A memorable two hour dining experience.
Outstanding in every respect. Ambiance, greeting upon arrival, service throughout dinner and food/wine. The rack of lamb and bass entrees were truly outstandingly delicious. As patrons of the Mayflower for many years, this evening's meal was by far our best. The Mayflower Inn is definitely back as a high end, exquisite dining destination.
We celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary at the Mayflower Grace and it was a wonderful evening. The menu was very creative and offered a wide variety of delicious options. Every dish was perfectly prepared, well seasoned and accompanied by delicious sauces. The service was outstanding- very attentive and friendly. The view from the dining room is toward their beautiful Shakespeare garden, which was in full bloom. Do as we did and give yourself extra time to explore the garden and grounds before dinner. The restaurant is set in the historic Mayflower Inn, which is a lovely building with gorgeous interiors. We wished we had looked into staying for the night. We had drinks in the bar before dinner and the atmosphere is understated and elegant but not stuffy.
Fantastic service. Entrees were prepared well and the cocktails fabulous. Great night!
Actually, we were on the patio overlooking the lovely gardens, on a beautiful sunny day. Care, service, food and wine were outstanding and I look forward to going back soon.
Enjoyable evening with good food, very good wine and attentive/professional service. The main dining room in the inn is spacious and provides an elegant setting. While the appetizers and entrees were quite good and interestingly presented, the portion size vs. the price resulted in the lower Value rating. I will note that the martini served was "off" (likely not the vodka ordered or too much vermouth when I ordered it very dry) but it is my fault that I did not send it back. My wife noted her opening glass of champagne was exceptional.
Five of us enjoyed a delightful birthday luncheon at the Mayflower. No one had any complaints. The setting is stunning. We overlooked a formal garden from the comfort of the beautiful dining room. Our service was flawless. The Grace cocktail is sublime. The Ethopian coffee is delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my starter course of cold spring pea soup. I followed that up with a delicious sole dish sautéed in brown butter with fava beans. The lemon tart is light and airy with no crust and accompanied by a raspberry sorbet. There was nothing that I would not wholeheartedly recommend. I will certainly be back.
