We always enjoy a special evening at the Matterhorn: the ambiance is so authentic, you feel as if you've been transported right back to Zermatt. The food is always delicious, with a tasty variety of accompaniments. And the fondue experience is so fun and social, we love how it brings us all together for a delicious and engaging evening. Highly recommend!

Matterhorn always delivers excellent fondu and rachlette in the Swiss-German tradition. Charming interior of hand-carved light-colored wooded ceilings and walls. Very quiet so you don't have to scream across the table - so different from the accepted dining culture of the millenniums.

Really friendly staff, very authentic food and feel, but I may not be a huge fondue fan!

Going to Matterhorn is like taking a little trip to Switzerland. The ambience is purely swiss - traditional, but warm and informal. And if you're into fondue this is the best around. Highly recommended.

Love this place! A Truly authentic fondue experience. Parking isn’t great but then again it never really is in downtown San Francisco. Wonderful staff who are very fast and efficient. I will always come here and recommend it too everyone!

I really love this place. It’s charming and relaxing. Great place to dine with friends. The fondue is delicious and the service is always warm and friendly. The couple who runs it are retiring soon, so go now before it’s gone. It’s great because the food is lovely and simple. The selection of wines is also terrific. I will miss the owners who are a lovely couple.

I've been to Matterhorn on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed myself. For the first time, we tried the meat fondue, usually only getting the cheese options, but super glad we did! The meat was delicious! They include a varied selection of dipping sauces, and I tried every one! I preferred the spicy ones, like the horseradish, but there was another (cannot remember name) that I particularly liked. It had a reddish-orange coloring. I would definitely try a meat fondue again.

As usual, the cheese fondue was fabulous! We went with the "healthy" herb one this time, and it did not disappoint. Plenty of dipping items available, including sausage, bread, mushrooms, potatoes and apples.

And we had the chocolate fondue for dessert. Delicious! Dark chocolate, which I very much prefer anyway, fruits and marshmallows for dipping.

They are closing at the end of September, and I'm going to try to get back there at least twice more before then. Maybe 3-4 times, if possible.

The fondue was awesome! We were walked through the process and given great recommendations. Our group had a wonderful time!

The last authentic Swiss fondue in San Francisco. Sadly enough closing in the fall. Meticulous attention to the quality of the offerings. Family operated. Unique and appropriate wine list. Try 'The Smokey One' with a bottle of one of the Swiss whites, like fendant.

First class Swiss Restaurant

This is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. The service is impeccable, the food wonderful and the ambience feels very swiss, as it should since the owner hails from the area. I always leave feeling very full, happy and as if I just travelled to Europe.

My family took me there for my birthday and it was very special. The food was scrumptious, everything was arranged with great taste and the service was delightful.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for years and now that I have finally gone I am hitting myself as to why it took me so long. It was great. We had the beef fondue in oil. the sauces were delicious.

The owner was very friendly and the fondu was perfect.

This place is a gem! Huge portions of the most delicious melty cheese! For me, it was heaven on earth...

Parking was a bit challenging, but once we got inside this quaint and well decorated place, that experience faded and we enjoyed a nice fondue meal and a bottle of Fendant which is hard to find. Pricing was a bit steep, but we don’t do fondue regularly, so it was a treat! Food was great, and so was the service. We will be back!

I loved it!

The Matterhorn has long been a favorite of ours. Their fondue is excellent and the optional morsels to dip are also great. The schnitzel is wonderful, too. (Just remember to call and make sure it is available that night as it sometimes isn't.) The ambiance is perfect, supported by the traditional Swiss blond wood, comfortable booths (or tables, if you prefer), and music. It is so nice to visit a classic like this and find it always delicious, satisfying in every way, an unmitigated pleasure--just as you remember it always being. In short, we love the place!

Visiting the city with friends and I picked this restaurant as I had been here before. It was perfect for our get together. The place was very quiet and we could talk among ourselves without distractingly loud music. The cheese fondue was awesome as usual and along with the wine was a perfect fit.

Terrific dining experience. Truly authentic Swiss down to amazing Swiss wines you can’t get anywhere else. Was like being transported back to Switzerland for a terrific dinner.

Wonderful everything about this authentic Swiss restaurant. Tried original cheese fondue, and beef Bacchus fondue. Dark choc dessert fondue. All perfection. Parking on van Ness difficult so rideshare in. Exceptional bar as well.
