The Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Parking was a bit challenging, but once we got inside this quaint and well decorated place, that experience faded and we enjoyed a nice fondue meal and a bottle of Fendant which is hard to find. Pricing was a bit steep, but we don’t do fondue regularly, so it was a treat! Food was great, and so was the service. We will be back!
The Matterhorn has long been a favorite of ours. Their fondue is excellent and the optional morsels to dip are also great. The schnitzel is wonderful, too. (Just remember to call and make sure it is available that night as it sometimes isn't.) The ambiance is perfect, supported by the traditional Swiss blond wood, comfortable booths (or tables, if you prefer), and music. It is so nice to visit a classic like this and find it always delicious, satisfying in every way, an unmitigated pleasure--just as you remember it always being. In short, we love the place!
Visiting the city with friends and I picked this restaurant as I had been here before. It was perfect for our get together. The place was very quiet and we could talk among ourselves without distractingly loud music. The cheese fondue was awesome as usual and along with the wine was a perfect fit.
Wonderful everything about this authentic Swiss restaurant. Tried original cheese fondue, and beef Bacchus fondue. Dark choc dessert fondue. All perfection. Parking on van Ness difficult so rideshare in. Exceptional bar as well.
4 Adults celebrated 2 birthdays with a fondue dinner. We ordered cheese for 2, and beef/scallops for 2. Plenty of food and only 2 people had room for dessert. We went with the Cote du Rhone wine recommended by the owner, and were happy with that choice. Delicious dinner.
Love this restaurant, and Bridgette (the owner)! She's always so warm and welcoming.
We dine here about 4 times a year and look forward to returning every time. We always order 'The Original' fondue with sausage, mushrooms, apple, and bread of course. We leave each time in the best cheese coma!!
One pot of cheese, a couple of iced teas, a plate of sausage, a chopped up apple, and some uncooked standard mushrooms should not come out to $77. Not even if it's gold plated. When we told her I am gluten free, she wouldn't even throw in the mushrooms and still charged us the same for the baguette we didn't take nor eat. Said we should have brought BYOB bread with us. Tasty, but heavy on the highway robbery.
The Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant has become an event I look forward to when my daughter is taking me to the San Francisco Airport for my return flight home. It has a unique ambiance and excellent cheese fondue - which reminds us of a time past when this dish was a favorite family meal.
Basic old timey fondue circa 1970. We had fun in spite of, well, mediocre food. If you have a friend who misses the plain food of days of yore this is your place. Would encourage a update to the menu and more effort towards a better fondue.
We had a wonderful experience at Matterhorn. My husband treated me to a birthday dinner here. Service was exceptional and very friendly. We had a cheese fondue, and a chocolate fondue for dessert. The servings are large and we were absolutely stuffed. I highly recommend Matterhorn!
This is the most authentic Swiss restaurant I have ever been too. The decor and atmosphere as well as the food. Everything is authentic. It is run by a Swiss woman who is always there making sure everything is great! I love all the fondues that are served at this place! Makes me feel right at home. The food is great and it is a fun place to go with friends!
A really nice place, charming but definitely a bit odd, this brightly lit, sparsely furnished Swiss oasis on Van Ness. The menu is appropriately short, with just cheese or meat fondue offerings. No gimmicks - utilitarian. Very polite and attentive service from a woman (who seemed to be the owner) and the waitress. The fondue was well made and tasty. Nicely hot and bubbly. I recommend this place.
