About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for groups
  • Charming
Just around the corner from Bath's Royal Crescent, The Marlborough Tavern combines the atmosphere of a local pub with the food quality you’d expect of a top restaurant. Two AA rosettes, and inclusions in The Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide bear testimony to the quality of both food and service. It’s no wonder it's won the Bath Gastropub of the Year title more than any competitors.

Food is essentially, though not slavishly, English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. Its food reputation is matched by their service - always friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there's an extensive wine list and selection of local ales to choose from. The Marlborough's pub garden is arguably Bath’s finest; a walled courtyard space, that’s perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.

Fabulous roast and fantastic staff. Lovely atmosphere. We asked for a premium table and we hot one. Only slight downside and not the Marlborough’s fault was a screaming baby. Fortunately it was the other end to where we were sitting but had it been our child, we would have left as it was screaming for at least an hour.

We eat here frequently and the standard is very variable. Last night sharing plate was insubstantial. Two of us had lamb which was sent back, returned suspiciously quickly and stayed chewy. Fisk ok but sauce insipid. No reduction on bill. Won’t be going back for a while😩

Lovely meal and one of the best Sunday roasts me and my friends have had. Lovely gravy (and lots of it) and everything was cooked perfectly and piping hot. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We felt comfortable and really enjoyed our meal. Dessert was lovely too! I had a cider recommended by the waitress and really enjoyed it. Would definitely come back again and recommended to others!

I would have given five stars but it was a very sunny day and there was not enough shade in the garden and the mains were rather on the small side so you’ll definitely need a side. But I’m probably just nitpicking as it was a very pleasant visit and the staff were all delightful and helpful. I’d definitely return.

Excellent food, good portions of well cooked roasts and fresh vegetables, excellent sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. The bar staff were friendly but a bit noisy with stacking crockery , dealing with empty bottles etc. Not a peaceful ambience hence 4 stars rather than 5.
