The Market Place Restaurant
Very nice experience. Food was excellent as was the service.
The Market Place was a wonderful find. It has a nice, causal vibe in addition to having terrific farm to table food, much like what we are accustomed to in the Hudson Valley. Our server was friendly and knowledgable. We went on the early side but did not feel rushed as the tables began to fill up. We enjoyed a well-crafted Manhattan and Old Fashion cocktails at the start. The mushroom au gratin appetizer was a highlight (a special), though our entrees were tasty, too.
Simply excellent; food, service, friendliness, all great.
Highly recommended seed bread if you love bread, stuffed quail and probably the best dish on the menu, the pork shoulder (which has some heat). It has a good balance of savory, smoky, sweet and acidic with a fantastic meat prep. Shrimp and grits is good but per usual with this Southern staple, it is heavy and the flavors a bit monotonous by the end.
Our group was in town for a event and our hotel suggested this restaurant. We were not disappointed. Great drinks and wine selection - and the food was great! When we make our annual trip to Asheville, we will add this to our restaurant list! Two thumbs up!
Always reliable with creative specials such as the mushroom appetizer--yum.
This was a first time visit for us. We made the right choice as we were celebrating my husband's birthday. I highly recommend you try it out.
Yes, they have a unique cocktails and food prep. I was disappointed in the eggplant risotto but everyone else seem to enjoy their entrees.
The squash fritters are a great way to start.
My husband enjoyed the mussels.
The scallop entrée was amazing! I thought the pappardelle pasta with the braised lamb lacked the kind of flavor I was expecting, but it was solid. The ham wrapped pears were great, the truffle fries were pretty good as well.
Wonderful food! We tried both of the specials for the night and they were fantastic. The peach/bacon small plate and the creme brûlée were amazing!
Food was excellent. The Tennessee Peach appetizer was a bit pricy for the small portions.
Josh was great, nice drinks, friendly atmosphere
Great food. All the menu items were great.
We went with another couple to celebrate a birthday. The red snapper was amazing and everyone enjoyed their food so much. The service, wine and cocktails were lovely too!
Good food but ruined by poor service. Staff seemed not to care that we were there let alone celebrating a birthday.
Outstanding! First, we foraged through the woods with our "No Taste Like Home" tour that morning. After gathering some delicacies (wild mushrooms and forest greens) we took them to the restaurant and the chef designed a tasty appetizer with our foraged food. The entries were a big hit too. The hand-cut pappardelle with braised lamb, roasted oyster mushrooms, confit tomatoes, wild ramp pesto, and parmesan was to die for, the rich flavors melded together with the pesto and lamb. Definitely a must do when you are in Asheville.
The brunch menu was perfect. Great atmosphere and delicious food!
Loved the food and wine! Great service and loved the location!
We visited this restaurant as a group of six as a tourist visit. The portions were super small for the price. We actually had to go somewhere else to eat an hour after. We likely wouldn't visit again for this reason. Service was great though.
Fabulous! Josh was the best server and the food was awesome. Beautiful place too. Live music was a bit loud but I always think that.
Tenth anniversary dinner was great. Dalton was a good server and made good recommendations on our food. Little jazz trio set the mood perfectly. Even though we are from Michigan we'll be back.
Excellent food and service. Kassie was terrific and gave excellent meal recommendations. My Risotto was delicious and my husband’s pork shoulder was exceptional. A very good wine list and delicious martinis.
This is definitely one of the best restaurants in town. We are local foodies so we know a thing or two about the local food scene. If you live here or are visiting, definitely put this on your list.
We always enjoy The Market Place and consider it one of Asheville's best dining experiences. The food is innovative and excellent. The service top notch.
Overpriced for Asheville and small portions. Nice waitstaff and a pretty location but the food was just okay.
Overall, we felt the food was excellent. The Octopus and the mushroom appetizers were outstanding. The.scallops were perfectly cooked and the pasta with lamb ragu was liked by everyone. Cocktails were well made and the wine list nicely balanced and well priced. We all enjoyed our meal there after an absence of about a year and we will return. The keyboard musician was very good and contributed to the pleasant atmosphere. The most disappointing aspect of our experience was the service. It was slow and somewhat inattentive. On too many occasions we had to seek out the server and at the end of our meal it took too long to check out. This level of service was the main reason we had not been back to The Market Place for some time. Our impression was that there were insufficient serving staff available, even for a quiet Wednesday evening. Perhaps that was why it was so quiet. Competent and experienced management must surely know that service levels that do not match expectations of a restaurant of this quality can override the efforts of the best kitchen. The good news is that it is easy to fix if there is a will.
My dinner was just OK. Nothing special. More of average quality at best. The fritters were tasteless and the pappardelle dish just meh. It was like a spoonful of pasta tossed with a watery sauce topped with some dry greens. Really not very good. The scallops that my friends ate looked good and the Mac and Cheese was extraordinary. The server was competent and pleasant but didn't overcome the lackluster food. The live music was nice and the dining room is lovely. Probably won't go back, except maybe for the Mac and Cheese at the bar.
Awesome dinner and service at The Market Place! The Chanterelles Gratin was amazing!! Great dinner and would definitely visit again!!
The menu choices offer something for every palette and the combination of ingredients is interesting, creative and flavorful. We loved the "tastes of Asheville" incorporated into our dishes. It is a sophisticated, yet comfortable dining experience. Kudos also on the attentive service!
This is a very beautiful upscale restaurant. Their brunch was amazing. Especially the banana bread French toast.
My party and I went for a girls trip dinner based on the reviews. Service was slow, prices are expensive for what you get. We all got sick at 6am with upset stomachs and we all got different dishes when our reservation was at 8:30PM and kept us up all night. Do not recommend.
Cassie was an awesome waitress! Adapted well to 2 Smart-Alec patrons. Great service!!
Have’t been here for awhile and don’t know why. Food is delicious & varied
Wonderful brunch menu!
The Market Place is always wonderful and I recommend it to everyone!
I had the octopus for an appetizer & it was delicious! The wild snapper was incredible & the peach cobbler with blackberry ice cream capped the meal off scrumptiously! Our waiter, Vince, is an outstanding asset to this restaurant. He's very personable, knowledgeable, & always seems to be right there when needed. His support staff also did an excellent job! I highly recommend this restaurant!
I am a local resident and have been the Market Place on a couple of occasions, for each one the experience was perfect. On this occasion I brought out of town honored guests, they all thanked me for the choice of restaurant, raved about every aspect.
The mushroom appetizer was excellent, as was the service and quality of the food and suggested wine.
The food was excellent, the service was top notch. I would recommend it to anyone wanting an AVL farm-to-table expericence.
Excellent service at the bar
