Located in the heart of downtown Asheville, The Market Place Restaurant specializes in handcrafted cuisine from seasonal, local ingredients, many of which come from within a 100 mile radius of Asheville. Bringing you the local harvest since 1979. Serving Dinner from 5:00pm and brunch every Saturday & Sunday from 10:30am - 2:30pm. Our classic American lounge serves local brews & handmade cocktails, and features live music. Due to unpredictable weather in the mountains, patio tables are not able to be reserved.

7pm reservation. Seated quickly with a choice of in or outside. Vince was handling all the outside tables very well. The wine, tomato and house salads were terrific. My paparedelle and her trout were great as well

The service was very good; the food was good but not exceptional for the price/value; the booth we were in is desperate for a repair and was uncomfortable to sit on; the dessert menu was skimpy and disappointing. We had been looking forward to this dinner, had three starters and three different entrees, and were disappointed. It was too expensive to just be adequate. However, the G&T was excellent.

Kitchen was very slow but the quality was excellent. Brought out appetizers and salad at the same time after a long wait. Main course took about an hour between courses.

Excellent meal and service. We made reservations for a high top table as that was the only available for the time we were in Asheville. When we arrived the host offered us outside seating if we would be willing to wait a few minutes. Our server, Rob did a fine job waiting on us. Chicken of the woods mushrooms for an appetizer, (new to us). She had a delicious ravioli dish and I had roasted pork shoulder, tender, spicy seasoning, with a delicious Mexican corn. Meals were original and perfectly prepared.

I am disappointed with the food at the Market Place. Years ago it was one of my favorite restaurants when Mark was the owner. The tuna tataki was cold as it if it had been pre-prepared and not recently seared. I love raw fish and I didn’t eat the full serving. Many options have a heavy hand with thick cream and animal food. Not simple, light and clean tasty cuisine.

We were very pleased with the food especially: the ingredients were fresh; preparations were simple but well-executed; each dish was tastefully presented. Service was profession but a little unenthusiastic (it's understandable, given how busy Asheville is these days). However, the friendliness of the manager made up for the staff's lack of energy. Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant; it was a very good experience.

i had the lamb pappardelle and my partner had the scallops. both wew perfectly cooked and the flavors of each dish were incredible. i am looking forward to returning and trying the ravioli.

Dalton was very informative on all the menu choices. We appreciated his knowledge about all the local ingredients and recommendations. Outstanding service and of course the food was amazing! I came back for the special mushroom small plate and braised lamb papperdale which did not disappoint!

Service was great. Food was prepared perfectly and very flavorful. One of us has a dairy allergy. They were very accommodating while keeping the entree very well seasoned.

Our server was super friendly and helpful.
Little tweaks would help a lot!
-Food was a bit uneven--some dishes very flavorful, others underseasoned. Seed bread was stale and flavorless (at 10 bucks, should be better!).
-Outdoor patio was loud with a screen door from kitchen that slammed hard every few seconds as staff came in and out (which they did with so much frequency). And outdoor speakers had a tinny, pitchy sound (especially with horn music). So a few adjustments there would help a lot!
-Lots of potential for improvements, as it's clear there are good things happening at the restaurant, too.

I am sad to report having remarkably bad meal here last night. We both ordered the steak, which I have had in the past and remembered as a really great dish. Unfortunately, last night everything about it was off. The texture was somehow both rubbery AND soft and the seasoning was unhelpful to say the least. If this had been a steak a Denny’s, it would’ve been acceptable I suppose, but as a $40 entrée at a nice restaurant, it was not. Other parts of our order were similarly disappointing: french fries that are normally delicious were served lukewarm and soggy; fermented vegetables were neither fermented nor the vegetables we were told to expect. I don’t usually write reviews at all, let alone bad ones, but although our very nice server tried to lobby on our behalf, the manager did not even approach our table to explain or apologize. She gave us a free round of drinks without appearing, but that was somewhat underwhelming on a total bill that was over $200. I understand that the pandemic has had some lingering effects on restaurants, and I want to be fair to the chef and the management (and assume it was just an off day for the restaurant) but this was an experience I cannot afford to repeat.

I was really excited about this restaurant because I discovered it from Gordon Ramsey's Uncharted series. The food was good but the service was sub-par. I was really looking forward to sampling the dessert but after they cleared the table the waiter just brought us the check and said, "I will take that when you are ready". I guess they didn't want us to have dessert.

My best friend and I ate dinner at The Marketplace. Chef Nate was amazing and so was his food. The servers were all excellent-Eddie, Britta, and Azariah. Our cocktails were delightful as well. For my friend’s first time it was perfect!

As a single diner, reservations were limited to early or late, which isn’t great and I urge the restaurant to reconsider. I also only had the option of a high top table by the bar. So I felt a bit unwelcome by the staff, including getting unsliced bread with no knife or plate, no salt and pepper. But I really wanted a fine dining experience and enjoyed the food. The pan seared scallops were amazing as was the dark chocolate Dulce de leche brownie! The seed bread was a big white roll with seeds on top. Def not worth the money or the calories, just not that good. The heirloom tomato and hand pulled mozzarella salad was good but small. I was expecting more steakhouse type salad but this was not it. It was good but not amazing. Probably a nicer experience for a larger group in the main space, but the main and dessert were amazing and made my experience worth it!

Restaurant had a nice ambiance. Food was ‘good’ but sparse and not anything very inventive. Waitress seemed less than thrilled to be there which was a disappointment. The busboys were more friendly. Overrated.

Absolutely wonderful anniversary dinner. Friendly, attentive service, delicious food, quiet atmosphere. Best mushroom appetizer I've had in my life. We will definitely return when visiting Asheville again. My number one favorite restaurant of the five we went to in the city.

The atmosphere and the sevice were exceptional. The food was expertly prepared and tasted great. My wife had the Togarashi Seared Tuna & MAC and cheese and I had the Ravioli. We shared an order of the Truffle Fries. The only reason I am giving a 4 star rating is that my wife and I both had severely upset stomachs for the remainder of the evening afterward. This could be completely unrelated, but potentially was the dipping sauce for the truffle fries that we shared.

Very disappointing! Pork shoulder dish was 1/3 pure fat, very poor seating, beer was barely above room temperature and no offer to open or pour it, Our order was served to another table so we had to wait and wait. After the National Geographic special with Gordon Ramsey I expected more for my money. The restaurant is attractive but gives off more of a tourist trap vibe than a high end restaurant,

We overall loved our date night experience. My cocktails were amazing and we said afterwards we would for sure go back for a beverage. We had the appetizer special and it was easily the best part of our meal. Everything taste fine but we did not leave feeling like it was the best meal we ever had (which is what we expected after watching the chef on the foodnetwork). All in all I recommend and we’ll be back for some delicious cocktails!

Recommended wine was past its prime. Brownish tint to it. Food was not flavorful. I know quail is a small bird, but chicken wings have more meat. Lamb pasta was fresh, mushrooms were excellent, but very little lamb in the dish. Overall - very disappointing for such a highly publicized chef.

The server was barely pleasant and he said that the chef would not make any adjustments to replace a grain with potatoes. I am unable to eat grains as I break out in welts when I consume them. Eventually I was charged more for replacing the couscous with squash! The salad greens were scant and had slime on them ! The lamb and pasta dish was so boring and lacked flavor and the other 3 people did not finish it! The fritter were a hit with my family but the lack of quality ingredients, unfriendly service and inflexibility of the chef was something new to all of us. We will not return based on these factors. Simple accommodations for dietary restriction, friendliness and good food go a long way in my book.

I come here every now and then. Always consistent. Great flavors using in-season ingredients. Service was great as usual. Ask if Dalton can be your server!
