My husband and I had a delicious meal here on Mother’s Day evening 2021. The Wood Grilled Joyce Farms Chicken was especially delicious. The chef elevated an ordinary chicken breast to a new level. We ordered several dishes, all of which were interestingly presented and perfectly prepared.
The front of the restaurant is deceiving because you walk into a bar area, but beyond the bar is a lovely restaurant area with soothing colors and windows. The servers were attentive and gracious. We will definitely look forward to a return visit.
Dalton is an excellent server. Friendly, knowledgeable, & attentive. I had the scallops with grits, which were delicious. Scallops were perfectly cooked & grits were creamy with crispy strips of Benton’s bacon &a hint of jalapeño. My friend had the eggs Benedict over house made cornbread, which she loved. We started with pickle juice bloody Mary’s...yum. We both had the strawberry rhubarb pie with basil vanilla ice cream...heavenly! I have eaten here several times and am always very impressed!
Steak overpriced for the quality, 3 scallops at over $30 not a great value. Called the restaurant for a late dinner resy and they said they could not accommodate us, yet I was able to book a table on open table no problem. Strange experience almost like they didn’t want to stay open for us. Nice atmosphere but not super welcoming.
Delicious dinner! Love the farm to table menu!
We enjoyed pea tendrils fritters. The Southern version of Surf & Turf (sea scallops and braised pork belly) with fab veggies was excellent. Rabbit was unexpectedly light with delicious broth. Great experience. Only down side was companion’s entree arrived as trout instead of the rabbit ordered so she ate after me but all in all a very enjoyable meal. Definitely recommend it. Interesting craft cocktails too.
Mussel appetizer was delicious, but one entree was inedible (recommended lamb) and other entree just didn't make any sense. Tortellini served in a bowl of sauce. Not served with spoon to consume and not a sauce you would want that way. Won't be going back.
The Market Place is consistently excellent, and one our favorites in Asheville.
A fun evening. Good food, great service. Will definitely return.
We have eaten there several times and never been disappointed.
The food and the service were awesome! I also appreciated how they were COVID safe. Each employee had a mask over their nose AND mouth.
I wanted a dinner with “clean” food - locally sourced, and health forward, where I could leave satisfied but not “stuffed”. Also wanted good, quiet ambiance. The Market Place delivered on all counts. Service was really great. The rabbit tortellini was superb. My only “food for thought” would be that we were never offered dessert (the check was brought before we could ask, or before it was offered), and the ramps I ordered as a side dish were really tasteless, unfortunately. Other than that, everything was amazing! Will def be back.
The food is of the highest quality that we have had anywhere in the country, with unparalleled creative flavor combinations!
Great food and great service! I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Very underwhelming for such a highly rated restaurant. Service was patchy, food portions small, flavor lacking.
Food was ok. I had the Lamb pasta which was ok. But not great. Service was good. The high tops were crammed against the wall. So not very much room for 2 for dinner. I’d go back after trying the many other restaurants.
Impressed with meal. Nice to eat at restaurant that goes beyond the basics and offers more inventive food.
Food was just ok. Nothing special. Wont go back.
Hi there. This was our first time at the Market Place and I must say it was wonderful. The scallops were cooked to perfection which is a delicate skill all to itself. We will definately be back again.....Thank-You!
Everything was great.
Will go back
Outstanding service and atmosphere and the food was local and very creative.
The Market Place, was at one time, the premier restaurant in Asheville. No longer! The atmosphere was dated, the food was uninspired, and the service mediocre.
Also, I find that a waitperson making his/her political leanings known to customers can be risky. It was in our case. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone anymore.
Great food and Dalton was an excellent waiter. The pork shoulder was terrific.
Great dinner with friends. Only reason for not giving 5 stars was that it was extremely warm and took a while.
Always a great experience at The marketplace.
We had a lovely dinner with friends. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful evening. The menu is great and service very good. Especially good was the seared tuna small plate.
Limited upscale menu. Fewer choices than we’d hoped. Veggies were good.
Everyone loved, everything! Pork maybe the best - but the parpadelle, trout and scallops were all amazing! Must go!
Risotto and lamb pappardelle were superb! Enjoyed the cheese plate as well.
Food was good. Scallops were PERFECT. We had our 4yo with us, and our server (dark-hair female who's name escapes me) was AMAZING. She was fast, helpful, to-the-point, and great with my son. She made the birthday experience for my Mother perfect. I have been in the service industry as a server/bartender for 13 years, and she was the highlight. Thank you amazing server.
Third or fourth time eating here. Great atmosphere, great cocktails very good food. We'll be back!
Took out of town guests to The Market Place for Sunday Brunch. It was fabulous. Our server was excellent with the coffee refills. Food was delicious
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend!!!!!!
Apps and drinks were good. Had the pappardelle and pork meatballs as entrees and both were watery and lacked flavor. The alleged polenta was just grits and the sausage was dry. Not really worth the money.
Nice atmosphere. Worth another visit to try other dishes.
As usual, excellent food & service.
That’s why we keep coming back,
We were excited to try a new restaurant on our recent trip to Asheville, but were very disappointed. Wine was not good-even after being told we should try a different one than initially ordered. We ordered 3 appetizers and all 3 were bad. We were told the tuna appetizer was spicy, but it had no flavor at all- a few jalapeños were the only spice. The kale beet/orange salad had 2 orange slices and maybe 5 small pieces of beet and the kale was not even chopped and dressing had no flavor, the croutons were charred. The kale fritters had no flavor and the tiniest drizzle of sauce. The staff were undertrained. We will not be recommending. And by the way this is the first restaurant review I have ever done.
Share plate with chicken liver pâté and meat, pickled veg it’s absolutely mind blowing - all fresh and made on site
Absolutley excellent experience. Freshest most delicious food. Staff was wonderful and made a beautiful delicious appetizer out of my skimpy flowers I brought from a foraging tour!
This is a superb restaurant and is well located in downtown Asheville.
Not impressive for the price of breakfast.
