The Mariner's Inn
One of our all time favorite restaurants. The breaded shrimp is the best!!!
Great service and delicious food.....can't wait to visit again!!!
My fiance and I sat on the patio around sunset, and it was perfect. There was live music, and our steaks were delicious. We will definitely be returning.
My husband ordered the 10 oz. filet special on a Saturday night, and I ordered the twin lobster tails. We shared and each had surf and turf! The salad was delicious... The buns were hot and tasted great... This was our first visit to The Mariner Inn and will definitely return when we are in Madison the next time.
A fabulous fish fry! Outstanding service and table outside.
We have been here before and had a pleasant dinner. This is the first time at the 6 pm slot though. The noise level was off the charts. It's a sad state these days that people have forgotten their public voice. I guess this is what we have to deal with. Now the food: the clam chowder and the in house baked rolls were excellent. My spouse's Tenderloin was very good, tender and prepared perfectly. Unfortunately, for the first time, I tried the much touted bone in ribeye. Well, it was the toughest, gristle filled ribeye I have ever had. Half the parts of the steak could not even be cut with the steak knife. It obviously was not USDA Prime. I would guess USDA select at best but maybe commercial. The wine list is only mediocre with a distinct lack of selection.
The section we were seated had a funky smell to it, was rather dark and drab. I ordered a steak that was tasty but also requested the mushrooms. I literally had one mushroom cut up into 3-4 pcs. Would not recommend the Lemon drop Martini. I am not from Madison and The Mariner is so far out of the way it's not a trip I will take again. Our server Pam was delightful.
We were celebrating our 52nd anniversary that evening. Most of our anniversary's were enjoyed at The Mariner and for a good reason - we can always count on having a wonderful meal and wonderful service.
Super food, super cosmos(great bartender), love it every time we come.
We had a lovely meal - the macadamia crusted basa was excellent. While the dining areas seemingly haven't been updated in quite awhile it's part of the supper club charm. The server was attentive but we didn't feel rushed. We'll be back!
Mariner's Inn was fantastic, as always. However, Open Table was not. Our reservation never made it to Mariner's Inn, so they were not expecting us. Luckily they had room. Restaurant reports they are having a lot of problems with reservations made through Open Table not showing up.
A group of 7 of us dined at the Mariner’s Inn last Saturday. Four of us ordered seafood and three ordered steak. The three who ordered the steak specials said the meat was tough, and the waitress did not check on us to make sure it was done to our satisfaction. The two that ordered the salmon said it was dry, the one who ordered the walleye said it was very fishy tasting, and the one who ordered the Mariner’s shrimp said it was “fatty” meaning the batter was not crisp. The order of hash browns and steak fries were good, as well as the soup and salads.
When we mentioned that one member of the group was celebrating a birthday, the waitress indicated that she would take care of her dessert, the cherry cheesecake; however, when the bill was presented, the cheesecake was listed as a charge after it was assumed that the dessert was complimentary.
We have dined at the Mariner’s inn many times over the last 17 years and found this experience to be very disappointing. The quality of the main courses has obviously changed. We will defer dinning at the Mariner’s until sometime in the future when we will give it one more try.
I took an out-of-town guest to Mariner's and she loved it. They never disappoint. A great time was had by all. Great food, great service.
Excellent as always! We were celebrating my husband's 60th Birthday with Friends.
I made reservations for 6:30 however we were not seated until 7:05 it then took until 7:30 to be waited on. The food was good, but unless they improve their reservation commitments and their wait staff follow through it will be a long while until we eat there again, and we eat out a lot.
We love the Mariner's Inn. Together we have been dining there since we started dating in 1970. My first trip there was via boat as a family outing on Lake Mendota. Can't beat it. Window table, wonderful staff, good food. It's one of the best in Madison. Thank you for still being in business!
We have celebrated many milestones at Mariner's Inn over the last 55 years. We began coming to Mariner's when we were single and in our late teens. Now, just a few nights ago we celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary! Thank you for being "our special place."
Great atmosphere! The host and bartender remember your names! Food is always excellent. Best jumbo shrimp in the region. The clam chowder is better than any I have had anywhere, including in New England. Steaks are always done to perfection, but, like everywhere else, getting on the too pricey side. We will keep coming back. It's sooo good.
So glad I live nearby. Mariner's is one of my favorite restaurants. Excellent food.
We were able to sit outside which was lovely until it got a little dark and then the mosquitoes were abundant - would have been perfect if there was a repellent candle on the table. The food and service were excellent. I would definitely return and I recommend this restaurant (bring some repellent if you want to sit outside).
Always a great fish fry!
Best restaurant in Madison! Best food and views!
We made a 7 pm reservation to celebrate a special occasion. We arrived early and went outside to have a drink. At 715 we saw they were seating people who came in with us but had no reservation so we inquired about our reservation and were told they could seat us now. We were seated but no waitstaff came for quite some time. When she came she took our drink order and after a short wait came back with them before disappearing again. We didn’t see her again for some time. She finally came back and took our order. When our food came the lobster was not cooked all the way through and we were never asked how our food was. We asked management to take a picture of us as we knew the waitstaff was busy elsewhere. He proceeded to give the camera to the waitstaff and left. We felt like it was a huge bother of us to ask for a picture. The steaks were excellent but we will not be back because of managment’s attitude and the waitstaff’s inattentiveness .
We ate on their patio outside overlooking the boats. Weather was perfect and no bugs. As always the food was great. Fried shrimp, seafood platter-shrimp & fish and the ragin’ Cajun salmon. The salmon will be my next try, looked amazing. Dinner salad were fresh and I had green beans as a side that were seasoned and cooked perfectly. My mother in law had the au gratin potatoes, which she said were dry and over cooked.
Was a perfect ladies night out.
Friendly, attentive service and great food.
Classic Wisconsin supper club with great atmosphere, food, and service.
Try the Friday fish fry and say hello to your host , Jack Von Rutenberg!
Excelente service and the food extraordinaire.
Gr8 food, service, atmosphere, prices reasonable -nice outdoor area
We live an hour and 45 minutes away yet always choose Mariner’s Inn to dine while in Madison. Owner so friendly and offers warm conversation while seating us. Sat outside on our Friday evening and enjoyed seeing boats docking. Tenderloin medallions delicious! Their clam chowder best I’ve had anywhere! Staff friendly and service prompt.
6 p.m reservation. Seated at 6:35. Waitress appeared at 6:45. Before dinner drink arrived 6:65. Food arrived at 7:30 cold. Waitress appeared disheveled and non caring. Our guest called it a fiasco. Never again
Best shrimp in Madison. My date was so impressed with his steak. We will visit again soon.
Excellent atmosphere, excellent food, excellent service. Can't wait to go back.
steaks were perfectly done. Not a lot of selection for veggies. Overall a nice place with a good view
My fish fry was great (perch). , my wife was not as happy with her Walleye. Great service and location, we will be back.
Once again... the von Rutenbergs provided an A+ meal in a professional supper club setting. They never fail to impress.
The stuffed mushrooms appetizer was delicious, the chowder very tasty and the beef medallions topped with scallops out of this world. We capped the fantastic meal with a couple pieces of yummy key lime pie. Service was most attentive, and the riverfront ambience contributed to a memorable relaxed dining experience. Mariner's Inn has the best beef in Madison!
From the moment we got there, which was a little early, we were welcome to the bar. They were so accommodating. We decided to eat earlier than expected, and they were wonderful. Our server, Michelle was so warm and friendly. I just loved her. And the food was delicious!!!
Mother’s Day brunch
Thank you for accommodating our large party for our daughter’s UW graduation!! Everything was outstanding, amazing. and delicious!!!The ambiance was perfect and your noise level was - there was none!! Even with our 4 1/2 month old great nephew who was a bit fussy, all the patrons were more than understanding!! I think we found our new favorite place when we come back to Madison! Thank you for a wonderful evening and memory!!
Overpriced, average food. Sat outside on plastic chairs in a vinyl tent with tiny windows. NY strip had little flavor. Chefs filet was just ok, but also undercooked. Shrimp and cheese curds were done nicely. Server was v pleasant.
Made reservations for our Daughters UW graduation on Friday night. Was disappointed to find out when we were sitted that it was a limited menu for their anniversary special. Was hoping for the traditional fish fry. I felt it should have been relayed at the time we booked. Our waiter was extremely slow and aloof. Had to ask for things multiple times.
