When Bill and Betty Von Rutenberg opened The Mariner’s Inn in 1966, they set out to provide a steak and seafood dining experience like none other. Mouth watering, delicious steaks aged to perfection and an assortment of seafood from lobster to the famous Friday Fish Fry. Bill and Betty’s sons, Bill, Jack, and Robert, along with their crew, now carry on the tradition of outstanding hospitality of von Rutenberg Ventures. Yes, we would and we continue to do so. Jack, Doug and staff are so friendly and accommodating. The service is excellent, the quiet music very relaxing and the ambiance lovely.

My wife and I both had sirloin and a lobster tail. Both steaks were cooked exactly the way we ordered them and were very tender and flavorful. The lobster was sweet and delicious. We were celebrating a birthday so the prices were acceptable but it's not a place we can afford to go to on a regular basis.

I must say that our waitress was truly accommodating. Very attentive and very helpful. My walleye was excellent! Tender, flavorful without a fishy aftertaste. Our salad was very tasty as well with a variety of fresh vegetables. Loved the warm rolls as well.

Had a wonderful experience at the Mariner's Inn. Our dinner was excellent, our waitress attentive and all of the staff was quite personable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

We haven't been to Mariner's for almost 8 years, although the food was very good, my wife had to eat with her winter coat on as it was very cold where they seated us...kind of ruined the evening, no one likes to eat with a coat on and cold feet, that was very disappointing...

Food and service was generally good. My wife's filet mignon had a piece of grizzle running through it. I'd expect better for a $33 steak. She was also promised a pumpernickel roll but never received it. No big deal but should have been told all out instead of that they were frozen and were being thawed out.

Visited on Valentine's day, and though they were jam-packed the service was still exceptional. I had a small steak and my wife had the salmon Florentine. Both were well-prepared, and the sides were excellent (I can recommend the hash browns). The only disappointment was that they had a reduced menu, hence their fabulous au gratin potatoes were unavailable. Otherwise, everything was top-notch.

We had a quiet space for a relaxed dinner and some great conversation. Appetizers were great and showed up at the right time. The legendary clam chowder is still as fantastic as ever. We all had steaks which were tasty and perfectly prepared.

My husband and I stopped by early hoping to get in and out and have a quiet dinner. Seafood stuffed mushrooms, prime rib, and stuffed salmon were excellent.

My sister who now lives in Dayton OH was in Madison for a visit. She said she missed having dinner at the Mariner's so we surprised her and took her for a meal this past Saturday. We were pleased to find out the Mariner's had extended their restaurant week menu. My sister and I had the surf and turf off the restaurant week menu and my Wife and children ordered steaks off the regular menu. All meals were excellent. We finished the meal with a variety of desserts that we shared. It was a great visit.

We went on restaurant week-very early@5:00 pm.
My table mates ordered brandy old fashioneds (&waited quite a while). The waiter said “The bartender is busy “ When the drinks DID arrive, on first sips, they reported to waiter the drink doesn’t taste right- either bad mixer or no brandy. The waiter offered no resolution, did not offer to replace drinks..
The meals were skimpy-no sides offered on restaurant week menu.
We’ve been to Mariner’s many times, but this time it seems to have plummeted downhill. We will not be back.

The meal starts with a great view of the water. We ordered cocktails and they were very delicious. It was restaurant week so there were many people in the restaurant. Even given that fact our food was perfectly prepared. I ordered the deep fried shrimp. I do believe that Mariner's has the best deep fried shrimp in the Madison area. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We had a wonderful time. If you have never tried Mariner's; do so during restaurant week. It is a true value.

The food was wonderful and so was the server. This was her first time working a Restaurant Week and she was a pro! Best service I’ve ever had there! Sometimes the food is hit or miss but this time was a hit! Awesome!

The overall experience would've been five stars, but they had a large dinner party that delayed our food. The restaurant is an older building that needs some updates, but that is also what gives it its charm. Our steaks/seafood was excellent, and I would definitely go again.

Had reservations but had to wait 20 minutes. Don't overbook like that.
A bit upset that we were never told about Champagne special.
Kept hearing they were running out of highball glasses which made us wonder who clean our glasses really were. In fact when our wine came at dinner my husband's glass was not clean.
Learn to handle those busy nights or take less reservations or tell people without reservations true wait times.
