Dreadful! Our food this night was dreadful. We've been to Marine Room many times in past 20 years and until it was always outstanding. Not this night. Apparently they have a new chef. My wife had the veal. It was really tough and tasted bad. I had the seafood trio which had no taste!. The mushroom appetizer was quite good. And they did not charge us for the veal. We had the Rumchada Creme Brule. It was really bland with no real taste to it. We talked to others who were leaving and they had disappointing dinners. This restaurant has also really jacked up prices way beyond what other restaurants charge! Beware if you are planning to to Marine Room!
Anniversary dinner. We found the staff to not be that gracious or elegant. We expected a higher standard. Disappointing experience compared to our visit 10 years ago. Level of expectation is high due marine room given its reputation and pricing. The space seems dated. The bar area is not that special. No snacks offered with drinks. The staff was not on their game. Ordered the table side Caesar which is not done table side because there isn’t room so then don’t offer table side and charge the table side price.
We still had a lovely time given the view and the food presentation was very nice. Lamp chops were fantastic. The chicken was dry and not that interesting.
Best restaurant for any special occasion! The food, service, and ambiance are special even amongst the best of restaurants. Reserve early and get a window table for the best experience.
It was amazing from start to finish. The meal was delicious and the waiter professional and helpful. The dessert was great and we got to watch the sun go down. We loved it.
A special place for special occasions..interesting wine list ..
A great place to take a date! The ocean view was amazing! Definitely going to return in the future.
The food was good, but I expected better for the price. Obviously you’re paying an up charge for the view, which does make up a bit for it. I could have used a better variety of food options. Smelled a wee bit musty, maybe due to the location? Recommend fixing the faint must smell and introducing better variety of food to take it to the next level.
The Marine Room is a very romantic and top line food. This is my favorite place to bring my wife for romantic celebrations. Ghere are giant windows for you to be able to enjoy the sunset on the ocean from the comfort of your table. Make sure to make reservations well in advance. I just wish they had one more vegan entree!
Made reservations for 6:45pm, but not seated until 7:15pm. Ok, as we had cocktail while waiting for ocean view table. Excellent food & drinks. It was our 30th anniversary, but server never mentioned, or brought dessert for us. Overall, very good but busy, so plan on waiting awhile.
Everything went very well. My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. I had asked for a window table for dinner when making the reservation 10 days earlier. We had a window booth which was perfect. It was not a high tide night but the view of the ocean with kayakers and swimmers in the water and people on the beach was very peaceful. A big surprise was getting a comped desert in honor of our anniversary. All in all a very nice evening.
First time here. It was an awesome experience. Instantly became our favorite restaurant!
Hi, We are very thrilled to hear you had such a great dining experience with us on your recent visit, especially as a first time diner. Thanks for the great feedback and will certainly pass on to our team. Hope to see you back in and there's always the bar&lounge seating as well, if just looking for a cocktail/glass of wine with a view! Warm Regards, The Marine Room Team
Unique dining experience along the ocean front with exceptional views and an outstanding menu. The noise level was higher than expected, however, things quieted down as the evening progressed. If you prefer a table next to the windows, you must schedule your reservation well before you plan to be seated. All of the tables have fantastic views of the ocean, and we were seated as far from the windows as possible in the dining room (not intentionally - it's what was available at the time we arrived), but we overheard that several groups that had reservations well before ours were still waiting for window tables even after we were seated. The wait staff was exceptionally professional and well versed on the dishes and wine menu - as would be expected at this type of establishment. When main courses arrived, one dish was overcooked, but when brought to the attention of the wait staff, the issue was immediately resolved and they were (almost overly) apologetic.
Tourists destination in the summer
Wonderful experience at the Marine Room! I was thrilled, my other guests rated between 4 and 5. Beautiful evening and views. Awesome food! I liked my waiter too.
My experience was very outstanding, enjoyable and will definitely come back!
The food was delicious. Magnificant. Would go here for a special occasion. It was pricey, but the food was wonderful.
Fine dining. Fine, fine, find. Fantastic ambience, views.
Food and cocktails were top notch. Hostess was excellent and accommodating. It took about 15 minutes to get the bartender’s attention and order drinks (before we were seated). Service from the waiter was minimal and slow. We never even got a water refill. Views are amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant for a special evening out.
Food was too expensive and the amount..oh no, so tiny. We ordered 4 main dishes; 2 Lobster tails and 2 steaks, and 1 salard for 5 of us(2 adults and 3 kids). However, we were not full and not satisfied of food. The only thing, the View was good!
We had just gotten married and was in need to celebrate us and the month of August since we also got engaged and met in August. Went here with my new husband and from the time we sat down it was prob 10 mins before someone asked if we wanted water and handed us the menu. As if that wasn’t bad enough we had to flag someone down for bread. I was waiting to not have to do that but everywhere we looked there were servers standing around doing nothing and we felt like we were being ignored. All in all, we wish we had taken our celebration elsewhere where we could at Ieast feel everyone acknowledged we are celebrating us and our special days.
The view is beautiful, the service was excellent, the food was close to what one might get in first class on an airplane at exorbitant prices. It was quite frankly inedible, we returned all three entrees. Cocktails and an appetizer in the bar area would have been perfect.
The food was a big disappointment. My wife ordered the swordfish in May when we ate there for my birthday. She ordered the same dish this time. It was nothing like the swordfish she had in May. It was a patty and had a bland taste. The salad tasted bitter. I had the same dish and felt the same way as my wife. In addition, I ordered a beer which was never brought to me.
Lobster fantastic. Diver scallops fantastic. Mud pie was delicious, light and tasty. Drinks were expensive, but tasted great. Service exceptional. Atmosphere was perfect.
The view and experience was wonderful.
We came here to celebrate our yearly wedding anniversary. We celebrating our wedding reception at the Marine room 15 years ago and ever since then, we are regulars.
The dinner and service was unbelievable as usual. However, this time around we were very disappointed with the restaurant accepting under dressed guest. Tank tops, Extreme short shorts to the point of complete distraction for the beautiful waves hitting the walls and focusing more on waves and caves exposed between hi cut ripped shorts. They sat on the edge of the table taking pictures, posing continuously and snapping away while we were trying to have an intimate dinner. Floppy hats were worn, ripped T-shirts and baggy shorts like they’re going to the beach. Not only was the table next to us very un-appetizing, other people are entering the restaurant with similar attire. That being said, having a romantic anniversary dinner at the Marine room was very disappointing.
The Marine Room website has a dress code however guess we’re definitely not up to par.. It felt like we were sitting at a bar grabbing a bite somewhere off of the main strip of pacific beach.
Very disappointing and sad experience… Now we’re inquiring about a new spot to celebrate in the future.
We went on a Sunday night for my wife’s birthday, having not been in many years. It was on of our very best dining experiences ever! Service, view, and cuisine make it worth the money. Watched the sunset on the ocean while we dined in elegance.
And did I mention the excellent service? 😊
Great setting, with warm, personable staff, from bar, to waiter, to food runner, to table side Ceasar Salad by Dominic. Rick was personable, knowledgeable, attentive., making our experience as good as it gets.
Very enjoyable, fabulous view, amazing dinner and drinks!
Always a special dining experience, wondrously enhanced by extraordinary on-the-sea venue.
Pricey but elegant and pampering, the views are outstanding, the food is superb, and the service is impeccable.
Dishes were very good, but too expensive. There was no app, side, salad that was affordable. They should have at least one item in each area that is less than 21
My wife and I had a beautiful dinner here for her 30th birthday. The ambiance, view, and food are all well worth it. We had an amazing night!
I took my fiancé there for her birthday celebration and it was our first time there. I must say we are still talking about our entrees that we had. We will definitely be visiting again!
Great place to have a romantic dinner on the Pacific Coast.
View was great. Food was good but a bit overpriced. Place was crammed.
Birthday dinner with friends. Food amazing and service excellent. Of course view is incredible.
Great Restaurant, local San Diego Residents first time to the Marine Room in 63 years, had a great time and the food was off the charts.....Thanks!
Excellent service and food selection.
