The view from the restaurant was amazing. The food was very good, the portions were a little light. We dined for our anniversary and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere.
This was our 3rd time celebrating our anniversary dinner. They set us up with a perfect window table. Acknowledged our anniversary made us feel special. Our waiter was great along with our dinner.
Great location. Fantastic ocean view. Excellent service. Nice wine list. Ok food.
The appetizer was not impressive. The dinner entree was good but nothing exceptional. Dessert was good but nothing I would crave and return for. So, for about $100 a head (including alcohol), I can find better.
This place really is known for their location and view. It really is fantastic. Very impressive. Unfortunately, this is not enough for me.
It was top notch. Everything from the ambience to the service to the food. Exactly what you’d expect at that price point. Excellent.
I would not recommend this restaurant. I sent the cocktail back: it tasted like straight alcohol. The dessert was plain. The main course and the appetizer were good, the salad had too much dressing. The room was gloomy, and the whole place is overrated. There are better restaurants in La Jolla
Great service..The best waiter ever..I think his name is phillip...We highly recommend him waiting on you..The view is awesome and the food is scrumptious.
$19 per person Caesar salad that was mediocre at best. I ordered the chef seafood special for $54 that had one scallop, 1 shrimp and brandozzine fish that was horrible. I would not go back. Sad thing is, I had lunch at the Crack Shack, had a salad that was about $12 and it was way better. I understand that you’re paying for the view, but it’s not worth it.
We have eaten here many times over the course of 30 years and enjoyed the food. This time was a disappointment. Some wasn't under their control. We always have their halibut or salmon, both of which were listed on their website.
We were told they couldn't get the halibut, due tothe government shutdown keeping it from coming in from Norway. That made sense to us, so we ordered the salmon. It was presented nicely, but the red sauce accompanying it wasn't a good pairing to us. Salmon was just tasteless. They gave us a dessert for my birthday which was ok and very nice of them. Jonathan's service very good, but bus boys didn't refill waters until after several requests. Such a disappointing event. And, count on it costing 30% more than 2 years ago. We hope it isn't becoming a tourist trap. View was magnificent.
Food was ok, but not with the high prices
Very offended that they stuck us 2 tables back from window when I made the bday reservation for my 93-yr old, hard of hearing dad. I requested one of the 2 window tables & was told that one was for a proposal & the other for a food critic, which obviously wasn't true. Will not return.
For our 50th anniversary, we were looking for a restaurant that not only had excellent food, but was classy as well. Where we could dress up and not look out of place. The Marine Room fit the bill perfectly. The food was top notch and the presentation was outstanding. And the server was appropriately attentive. This is not the place for casual dining or to "eat it and beat it". But it's just the place for special occasions.
Super, as always, food service and ambiance all outstanding
The view was spectacular. We had the high tide breakfast buffet. The food was just okay, but not worth $58 a person.
High tide breakfast food was great the view fantastic and the service was superb. The Marine Room has been a favorite for years and for years to come I’m sure
Lovely tasting menu and beautiful ambience for New Years!
Unfortunately it missed the mark for us this visit. We sat at the bar while we were waiting for our table and experienced a bartender that had no personality. When he brought us our drinks he made no eye contact and as we thanked him he just walked away without saying a word.
My ribeye special was odd in that it was barely 1/2 inch thick. Never have I seen a steak in a high end restaurant cut so thin! While it was very good I just couldn't get past how oddly thin it was.
Always a great view and our waiter was outstanding, but at this price point they need to be close to 100% on everything and sadly this was not the case. Not sure if we will go back because I don't go out for fine food just because the view is nice.
My beautiful date loved the view and her steak. She especially enjoyed the dirty martinis
We celebrated our 30 years of love. We had the seared Ahi and The Elk. Both were outstanding, we split them. Then we shared the dessert sampler. Just wonderful.
Room was cold.
Celebrated my husband’s retirement with our son, daughter-in-law, 15-month grandson, and dear friend. Food snd service were lovely, and they were very accommodating for the baby.
The marine room has outstanding food and service. Definitely a great choice for celebrations. If you are a seafood lover this is one of the best seafood restaurants in San Diego.
Went to the Marine Room for Rob’s birthday. Service is always exceptional and the seafood can’t be beat. We’re ready to go again.
Went here for Christmas Dinner and had the last seating of the night. It was perfect. The food was delicious. The drinks were refreshing. The service was top notch. The atmosphere was wonderful for a intimate dinner with family.
We made reservations 6 weeks in advance for Christmas evening, showed up 10 minutes prior to reservation time, andcwaited over an hour to be seated. The place had overbooked big time and it was awful.
Marine Room always does a great job on Big Holidays!
Though we had a reservation, we had a long (about 1/2 hour) wait for our table for their special Christmas day dinner. However, after we were seated we found the menu imaginative, the service good. We enjoyed the day.
Unfortunately, and as a La Jollan myself, disappointing; food was mediocre at best ~ in flavor, and all else considered, over priced. Scene/setting is amazing, which is the reason we visited for Christmas. That said, I would not recommend it. Rather, take a beach walk and then pick other fine-dining restaurant. Barbara & Tom Swapp
Christmas dinner, 5th year running. I guess it’s become a tradition for us.
Absolutely stunning place to spend Christmas day with friends. Food was imaginative and the Chef took great care along with our waiter in assuring we had a perfect meal. One of my guests is GF and her choices were impeccably prepared.
Wonderful, excellent food, terrific waiter. Can’t do better than perfect!
We were there for Christmas midday. We were lucky to time it to see waves splashing against the windows at high tide. It is a unique location. Great food and service. A special place for a Christmas meal or any special occasion.
I was expecting an outstanding meal for the price I paid. Who every was cooking seemed to form a great deal of the food on the plate with little cups. Just because it was little cup formed doesn't mean it was high end. One example, my plate had creamy sauce with a raspberry vinegar band - what is that? Horrible!!! These two taste profiles should not be mixed. This is a high end restaurant want to be. If you want good food go somewhere else.!
wonderful xmas eve here with my family! A perfect night by the sea with delicious sea food
Wonderful cuisine, service and views. This was our twenty-fourth " birthday" visit, in addition to multiple "high tide" breakfasts and anniversaries. The food is unsurpassed consistent and expertly prepared. I love the lobster bisque and the lobster and steak entree. This time we had the "share the love" selection for dessert, and it was marvelous. We will be back.
Best Caesar Salad and Lobster Bisque, but my halibut was lacking flavor. It was cooked perfectly, though. Desserts were incredible. Amazing service!
My hubby proposed to me here and we decided to celebrate our 10 years anniversary here. It's a very lovely place, service was good we went on a Sunday night it was very busy took awhile to get bread and water but not bad for being busy. Food was fantastic, this is an upscale dining restaurant for what we paid it wasnt too bad. My only criticism is that the seating is way to close to others I can hear everyone's business without even trying. Highly recommend for special occasion when it's not too busy
The services was extremely slow, and the food quality was horrible. Ww don’t mind pricey spots, but do expect exceptional food when we select such a place. We were extremely disappointed that we chose Marine Room for our family Christmas dinner celebration.
Holiday Brunch was wonderful. Huge selection of foods, and everything we tried was delicious. Something for everyone available. It was a high tide brunch, but the tide wasn't really high by the time we got there. Marine Room is such nice restaurant. People, please pay some respect to the restaurant and do not show up in jean shorts!!
Stay away from holiday brunches! Too crowded, lousy service - we had to ask four times for water. Food was o.k., not fabulous by any stretch of the imagination and I have had much, much better there. Truly a disappointing experience from a place I have really enjoyed in the past. Will still go for special moments away from crowds.
