For generations of San Diegans, the “Seahorse” symbol of The Marine Room has long stood for its dramatic on-the-surf location and award-winning cuisine by Executive Chef Bernard Guillas and his team. Considering this rare blend of culinary excellence, uncompromising service and beachfront setting, it’s no wonder The Marine Room has become a true San Diego landmark. Simply stated, this is fine dining at its finest. Opened in 1941, The Marine Room quickly became famous as pounding surf created dramatic displays against the restaurant's windows. For more than half a century, celebrities, world figures, residents, and visitors have made it a habit to enjoy the spectacular panoramic views of the Pacific and exceptional cuisine. We invite you to San Diego's premier dining destination and experience how each tide brings something new to The Marine Room. You’re not reserving a table – you’re joining a 75-year tradition.

Fantastic, as always. Reserved well in advanced and they honoured my request for a table by the window. Food was superb, although wish they had tried harder to accommodate my vegetarian wife. Will return here, as often as possible!

Tastes lived up to the spectacular presentation! Hostess and server were courteous, attentive, and professional without being stiff. Waves were too small to hit the glass even at high tide, which is much better for digestion 😆

We were early for reservation and given option to be seated. So being seated early we wanted to take our time so we could see the tide come in. Was no problem for our server. He timed every to our likening and we enjoyed a great post VD dinner. One of our favorites.

My husband and I went here for their Valentine's preset menu. While the food was good, the ambiance was not romantic in any capacity, though it was quiet it felt quite crowded, and felt anything BUT intimate.. This experience was nowhere near worth the $165 per person they charged. There are far better fine dining experiences that are deserving of such a hefty price tag. Extremely disappointed and very hesitant to ever revisit again.

Our reservation was at 845 and was not seated until 930. Food was not warm and not worth the prix fixe menu price! You are really paying for the view!

Waited an extra ~20 minutes to be seated.
Soup came out almost cold.
Duck came out cold.
My wife waited ~30 minutes (which they comped-thank you).

I wish this place lived up to the hype. We were really excited to be able to try the prix fixe menu but unfortunately they seemed very busy, which causes service to lack and thus the experience to be far from expectation, especially with the price tag.

Not much as changed in 30 years, same decor, carpet smells, very dated. Food wise, beautiful, presentation, but small portions and mediocre taste, severely overpriced even for a holiday prix fixe. Can’t think of a reason to return, sadly.

Totally disappointed. Trying to be a high end restaurant but doesn’t deliver. We had the valentine day fixed menu and the only good course was the salmon sashimi which they didn’t have to cook. Dinner cost 550 and would never go there again. Salad was week and wilted and the soup was very pungent. Lobster tails were under done. A Total bust.

Brunch was delicious, as always. It was so nice to see Matt, and we are honestly still a bit stunned by his generosity regarding the wait we experienced the month before. Great food, fabulous atmosphere, and outstanding service! We continue to spread the word about the Marine Room!

Attended the High Tide Breakfast Buffet. At that price ($60/pp + 4% upcharge), I expected higher-end buffet offerings like crab legs, shrimp, etc. Fiod was good but ordinary buffet fare.

Had a table by the window with a great ocean view. Server was great and attentive. At $35, I found the corkage fee to be excessive. We much prefer our own wine favorites over the unknown choices at the restaurant.
Overall a nice experience for our anniversary celebration. They even provided a small dessert in celebration.

My wife and I enjoyed an early Valentines Day experianc extraordinare. The staff were particularly attentive and pleasantly cheerful. The food was flavorful and beautiful in presantation. Speaking of beautiful, I must mention the view. I mean for a location in La Jolla to not be able to mention the view is to not describe a place in La Jolla. But this view is most worthy of the title bearing any recognition to Californias coastal waters. Strident cliffs with pristine ocean waters to leave a less familiar patron to wonder in awe at the majestical rhythms which can be found at only a few feet from our table. This place is one of enchantment. To be anything else, well it simply would not be California, much less La Jolla. Thank you Marina. Enjoy America. These are gifts worthy of living.

This was my second visit during high-tide brunch. The food was great - the bread pudding was delicious! This place does not disappoint when it comes to ambiance and the views and possibly the main reason I continue to come here. The staff is always very friendly and attentive; our cups/glasses were never empty. However, they neglected to pick up the used plates in a timely manner - at one point we had to stack our plates and move to the side which was difficult being that we were sat at a small table for two - also not very attractive to have stacked plates at the table at such a nice restaurant. I must bring up the dress code - yes, this restaurant has a dress code posted on their website but unfortunately they do not enforce it. This is the second time that I observe ladies dressed in work-out leggings and running shoes - someone specifically was wearing a long grungy sweater and floppy hat, this did not hide her work-out tank top, leggings, and running shoes. I really hope the restaurant improves on this. One recommendation I do have is a carving station - it would be a nice addition.
