For generations of San Diegans, the “Seahorse” symbol of The Marine Room has long stood for its dramatic on-the-surf location and award-winning cuisine by Executive Chef Bernard Guillas and Chef de Cuisine Ron Oliver. Considering this rare blend of culinary excellence, uncompromising service and beachfront setting, it’s no wonder The Marine Room has become a true San Diego landmark. Simply stated, this is fine dining at its finest. Opened in 1941, The Marine Room quickly became famous as pounding surf created dramatic displays against the restaurant's windows. For more than half a century, celebrities, world figures, residents, and visitors have made it a habit to enjoy the spectacular panoramic views of the Pacific and exceptional cuisine. We invite you to San Diego's premier dining destination and experience how each tide brings something new to The Marine Room. You’re not reserving a table – you’re joining a 70-year tradition.

Great food and experience. We were placed close to the window with a picturesque, full view of the ocean which made only eating there even better.

On vacation from east coast made a reservation staying at the adjacent beach club. Our party of 3 was seated next to a two tables of 16 men having a group dinner- they were loud- disruptive. Some were wearing sweat pants. Hearing the occasional F bomb and gentleman’s talk was not what we wanted for a special dinner out. When spending $400 - we could have done better at a pub. Shame on the hostess who sat us there. Shame on the waiter who should have known better and moved us. We had to endure the clearing of the tables after... so wrong. Did we stiff anyone due to this poor experience? No- not our style - but this is not a place I will recommend-

We were in La Jolla for a get-away to celebrate my husbands birthday. The food and service were fantastic and you can't beat the view. Sunday and Monday are the Lobster special nights.
Great deal. Can't wait to go back.

The location has a beautiful view of the ocean. We were there at night and the waves were being lit up by the restaurant which was gorgeous. The food was on the pricey side, but absolutely delicious. The service was very friendly and they took my allergies into account.
We received a complimentary Lobster Bisque soup, which was very nice and very delicious.

Food and view could not be better. The service was very slow and we were just plain ignored by the waiter for extended periods of time. For the price I would expect top service but it was just plain poor service. Too bad because I love that restaurant. Will hesitate before I go again just because of the service.

High end dining $$...well worth a romantic dinner and dining experience. Will definitely eat there again. Dress nice with a dinner jacket.

We timed our reservation to be there for sunset and it was gorgeous. The service was impeccable, and each of the four of us had entrees that had been suggested by our waiter and we were not disappointed.

Was a very nice meal, however was very upset that I made a reservation weeks unpin weeks in advance for 8:15 and still had to wait over 45 for my table, granted yes Valentine’s Day, but maybe next time not over book yourself.

Went here for Valentines Day dinner. They had a pre-fix menu. We were seated 20 minutes late, we did not get to order until 45 minutes after arrival. The service was slow and they tried to keep us happy by serving bread. The appetizer was good but the rest was at best OK. If you have a known set of guests and a pre-fix menu and cannot deliver. When can you deliver? It was a major disappointment and then for Valentines Day. What a letdown. Safe to say we will not be going back.

Service was incredibly poor for $150 per person. Waited 20 minutes after reservation time to be seated only after being told by hostess that we were next on list 3 times with canned response to avoid the obvious. Never received any refills on water, waiter never made an attempt to ask how our meal was, only an impatient walk by to another table. Food was lacking any substance for a pre-planned menu set by restaurant. We have been here a couple times previously and we received better service at Buca de Beppa!!

Twice we had to send back course that were served the instant the previous course was completed. Rushing customers in a restaurant known for DINING is anathema. We will not repeat this expensive, unhappy experience.

Food is over-priced, service is not good, especially with such a pricey restaurant. If you are aiming for the view, then you might find it worthy. Otherwise, not recommended

Sadly, the dinner was a birthday celebration. I had requested a window table as it was our first time at the Marine Room. We were seated at a table in the middle of the room, table 11 I think. There were three empty window tables during the majority of our meal.
The food was fine, nothing over the top amazing but nothing horrible either. I found the server’s frequent reference to ‘tap water’ when we did not purchase the Evian or Pelligrino quite funny.
Aside from seating location not a bad experience, but I don’t see a need to go back or recommend it as a dining option.

Will open with I have gone to the Marine Room for years, great view, food can be marginal!
THE CURRENT MANAGEMENT IS TERRIBLE!
They canceled my reservation so I had to re-book for a different time. Food came out dead cold. Asked them to warm it up; finally a manger came by and started arguing with me; So I got my check and warmed up food 1.5 hrs later; so I did not eat my dinner; paid my bill and left.
I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THE MARINE ROOM UNTIL THE MANAGEMENT HAS BEEN FIRED!

Great waterfront setting with view of ocean waves against shoreline. Professional servers dressed in Classic suit & tie with Service white napkin on sleeve. Food presentation is 5 Star Dining, swordfish was well presented however quite dry, given the reputation and obvious level of culinary expertise I’m guessing my plate (dry side) was probably out of the norm.

Order the layered frozen ice cream pie (mud pie) for desert as it’s simply the best I’ve ever eaten and; I’ve had many!

Prior to our trip to San Diego, I had seen the Marine Room in an article about great restaurants in the regions, but had opted to go elsewhere for my wife's 50th birthday. When those plans abruptly changed, I was thrilled to get a table at the Marine Room. The view is definitely a major plus, being as close as I've ever been to the water without being on a pier! But what made the evening was the food and the service. The menu created quite a conundrum when it came to choosing our dinner with an incredible array of dishes. In the end, we went with the recommendations of our server, Aaron (specifically the sesame-coated Ahi tuna, which we both ordered and LOVED). Their wine list is extensive with a great variety of styles AND a great variety of prices. Our server, Aaron, not only gave us some excellent recommendations (based on HIS favorites and not what sells or is popular), but he also was as good of a server as we have experienced, keeping very close attention to us and our needs without being intrusive. After our experience at the Marine Room, we now have one more restaurant we HAVE to visit whenever we are in the San Diego region!
