Visited the Marine Room for our five year anniversary while in the San Diego area and can’t say enough about our experience. The food was delicious, service excellent, and ambiance unmatched. It’s a smidge off the beaten path, it worth the trip. It’s a bit pricey, but don’t let that dissuade you for a special occasion. We’re from Chicago and have paid a lot more for experiences that didn’t measure up to the Marine Room. Pro tip: check the NOAA schedule for tides in the area and book a table along the windows at high tide.
I had specifically requested a table directly by the windows as I explained we were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. Any other time, this would not have bothered me. The hostess placed us at a table away from the windows. I had to request for a change if it was available. They changed us to a table by the windows but right behind the hostess check-in. There was absolutely nothing private with this seating arrangement. There were plenty of tables with beautiful views. I was very disappointed that they could not accommodate us on our special date. It was also very loud due to a large party.
Wonderful service for a family birthday. They accommodated our special requests and made our evening perfect. Food was wonderful.
Great view. Nice service. Awesome food. Bit expensive, though.
Had an amazing night with my bffs celebrating our birthdays. Our server Bryan was great and very friendly. Went to this restaurant years ago with a lot of people and had a blast.
The Marine Room is an iconic food destination in La Jolla. The food, view and service, all as advertised....did not disappoint.
We have always enjoyed a wonderful experience at The Marine Room. This time the food and service were a bit dissappointing. We did appreciate the fulfillment of our request for a window table and our out of town guests were enchanted with the location.
Expensive but worth every penny. Reserve in advance and request a table near the beach-front window. Absolutely amazing food no matter where you sit, but the view adds even more to the meal. Loved it.
Ryan was a fantastic server and helped to make the evening a great experience
Excellent food. A little pricey and service was a little slow for our group even though it was small since there were several other large groups. Watching the sunset over the ocean was worth it!
I know you always can’t get what you want however, we asked for a window seat when I made the reservations and was willing to wait as we were early to the restaurant .
The host hurried us to a seat after we told them we were willing to wait until our reservation 20 minutes from then to get a better view.
In a rush to fill seats, we were placed in a tiny corner with very limited views of the ocean.
I thought I preplanned well by calling ahead requested a nice table and even willing to wait.
The meal itself was crafted as if it were a Illprepared grand finalie, all over the place, not making sense and extremely expensive. Would not recommend !
We enjoyed absolutely everything. From the view, to the service.. and ultimately The Plates!!
5 star restaurant. Absolutely make time for it!
Great spot. We loved it and we dressed up because it was preferred. Then people came in in jeans and shorts and there appeared to be no bar too low.
The Best of the Best. Every detail is taken care of. There is not a server that is not top shelf
Excellent service, great food and of course you cannot beat the view.
We have been dining at the Marine Room for 40 years. No trip to La Jolla is complete without dinner there. Great food, service and ambiance.
Surprised how good the food was. And beautifully presented.
Last day of vacation was a special, memorable experience.
The main course was way overpriced and the portions were so small that you were hungry asking for more bread which wasn’t even warm.
Then the oversized mud pie comes out which was larger then all entrees put together. What a joke, have gone here for 30 years and now I’m done forever.....
Had a fantastic meal with top notch service at Marine Room as usual. Love the view and inventive dishes!
I made reservations 2 days prior to going there . Valarie called to get confirmations. I gave her specific instructions . It was my boyfriends birthday. It was our first time there . I wanted a window seat. Not a center seat n away from noise . We got there eon time . The Asian person at the front desk (Ross ) greeted us . For a few minutes they said nothing . Then I was told that they are looking for a table for me . 🤔 few minutes later he took us to the room to the right and offered us an aisle seat. I told him that I made it clear in my reservation that I wanted a window seat not a aisle seat n away from noise . The Asian guy told me that the reservation does not guarantee what we want . Tables are a first come first serve basis. I was like I talked to Valarie and gave special instructions . It’s a bday celebration. I don’t want to me in center aisle. That guy was rude and was like it’s just a request and they dint have to adhere to it . Tables are given at a first come first serve basis. I wasn’t sure why in the world would ppl make reservations then. Then he offers us another table on the other side which is even darker . After a few debates n argument we settle for the table on the right . We settled in. Even though the mood was ruined . After we get our champagne poured in , Ross comes and offers us the table right behind the check in desk. He states that the reservation got cancelled last minute for that. I was furious inside coz just few ministers ago he told us that they don’t hold tables . So who in the world was he holding that table for ???? 😡😡😡 we took the table n moved. But it was a terrible start. Thanks to our waiter John from Hawaii who lightened the mood and made it worth it . He was great. Personable n sweet.
Idk if I will return. I was very disappointed after all the hard work I did in trying to get a perfect table, make sure I gave good instructions n made clear it was a special event for us. That’s why people make reservations .
Jenn was our waiter and she was amazing. Loved the food and the view. Wish this place had some live nice piano or guitar music - it would be so perfect. Thanks for a great anniversary.
This was an Easter meal with out of town guests. It was a buffet. We were seated and left alone for 15 minutes. Wait staff walked by us without acknowledging us to the point where we almost left. Finally a staff person let us know we could serve ourselves from the buffet. The food was quite good with interesting variety. However, the staff did not clear the plates. We had to put our plates on other tables to have space. We will NEVER return for a buffet here again and we were most disappointed in the experience.
We had a very nice and elegant Easter dinner here at the Marine Room. They have such a great buffet with a variety of different mouthwatering dishes. Everything was fresh from the prime rib to the desserts. Throw in that beautiful Pacific Ocean view to top it off. I’m a fan.
The Marine Room is our new Easter tradition. Great food, beautiful location and view, has a homey feel. Very nice!
The food was good, but their Easter Brunch layout is really tight and crowded. A better layout should be planned for future buffets. The view is amazing.
Lovely Easter Brunch buffet, food selection was great and tasted amazing; the service was impeccable. Will definitely return.
La mesa del buffet muy apretada y muy poca opcion de comida sana. El lugar necesita una remodelacion,...muy caro para lo que fue
We celebrated my Birthday at Marine Room. Our window table was fabulous as well as the food. My husband enjoyed this elk and I had ahi which was excellent. Wait staff is outstanding, attention to detail. Romantic restaurant, priceless view, and delicious food. And my B.D. dessert was fantastic, loved presentation of food.
This is now a favorite restaurant in the San Diego/LaJolla area. Ambience, service, cuisine, wine list, quiet, comfortable and lovely view of the waves illuminated at night. First class.
This was my second time here and my experience was significantly different from the last. We requested a table by the windows for a special occasion; this request was not met. There were families giving their small children cough medicine at the table, completely interrupting the ambiance of the marine room. Others were also extremely underdressed, despite the clear dress code online. It took ten minutes for us to receive water/menus and another fifteen minutes to get any sort of service. We weren’t even sure who our waiter was as several people were intermittently servicing us. No one really took the time to really explain the menu or make any suggestions. Overall was very disappointed that my experience was subpar for the amount of money we spent.
It was a special birthday that was noted on open table. This was the second open table notation that didn’t get recognized by the restaurant.
I made a reservation for 6:30 to time it up with the beautiful California sunset. The view was incredible. We choose to try the tasting menu. Not bad, def a lot of food for the price but it wasn't as impressive as I'd hoped. Ambiance was also too formal for my liking. But great one time experience. Wish we would have come at high tide to see the waves crashing against the building. Our waiter Jon was a pleasure.
Amazing dinner. Really accommodating to our young children at our early reservation. Amazing view.
Went for husband's birthday. Wait staff the importance of the visit. WAY OVERPRICED for what we received. Suggested that the sourdough bread slice be heated in microwave for 15 to 20 seconds instead of being served cold. Butter with Hawaiian sea salt--GORGEOUS! Presentation A plus! Both salads served wear WORKS OF ART!!! Filet wonderfus--would have made a more beautiful one if chef had uses blue potatoes instead of white. Taro chip clever--Dessert---raspberry coulis was worth the whole visit. Sadly, the overpriced menu made us sad--we could and SHOULD HAVE prepared the meal ourselves. Along with taxis, this $500.00 will NEVER occur again--be very rich when you go there one Montrachet was priced at almost $1500.00--picnic at the beach in front of the place instead!!!
It was amazing place with beautiful scenery and the waves hitting the wall is just surreal. Had my wife’s birthday and she loved it.
Anniversary dinner with impeccable service and a zillion dollar view.
We come to vacation in La Jolla about once a year if not more and the Marine Room is always on the reservation list. Beautiful location, great Service and excellent food. I made Opentable reservations for a party of 4 at 7:30 on a Wednesday night, requesting waterfront viewing table. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated exactly where I requested.
We ordered cocktails while perusing the menu. Appetizers ordered was the Maine Diver Scallop and Hudson Valley Foie and Nebraska Prime New York Beef Carpaccio. Entrees were the Macadamia Blue Crab Cake, Sea Salt Crispy Skin Branzino and Sea Scallops with Shrimp. All the dishes, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. To top off the meal, we were presented with a delicious Lemon Tart for our Anniversary celebration to-boot!
Thank you for the enjoyable evening as always!
Wonderful! Food was delicious and wine was amazing.
The service was too slow. We had to wait 15-20 min for everything! Including the bread & the check. We had to finally ask for the bread . Not that busy on a Sun nite & plenty of staff, just not a priority. Why not ?? Dirty empty plates left in front of us x 20 min. Food was good & attractive. Also valet should be free when you spend that much for dinner!
