I did my reservation 3 weeks in advance for
Sunday at 7:30 so we could watch the sunset… I was there on time and we where not seated until 8:00 pm … of course we didn’t saw the sunset … I’m fine waiting 15 min but 30 is a little to be x
Food was great, service was horrendous. Upon early arrival we were asked to return closer to our reservation time, which we did. But we were finally seated about 45 minutes late. There were a handful of available tables for most of our wait. After being seated, we waited patiently, and only after we waved over our waiter were our orders taken, about another 45 minutes after seating. The waiter was unapologetic, empty water & wine glasses left to sit, and overall we had a bad experience although throughout the meal we were quite overly courteous.
Food and entree presentation were 4-5 stars (lobster bisque, mushrooms, Crab cakes, seared tuna). Would we return? No.
waiting time were a little bit long but only because they wanted to get me better table
Service was superb, food was excellent and the view is unparalleled.
The view and service were wonderful. The daily special appetizers were very good, the entree's were incredibly average. Overall, very disappointing.
Excellent celebration of Daryl’s 90th birthday.
Best view from a restaurant ever! Service was perfect, which was a very nice treat in these post pandemic times. Our waiter had worked there for 18 years and was the perfect combination of attentiveness, friendliness and professionalism. The young man who brought the water and bread, etc was the same. The food was excellent, and much less traditional than I expected. Excellent preparation and presentation. The whole thing was a memorable experience.
My wife and I dined early evening midweek when It was overcast at the beach. It was perfect as we had a wondeful location at the window without the sun glaring in, yet a beautiful oean view. The tide came during sunset and as it darkened outside it was if we were dining on the ocean. Our server, Rick, was wonderful and of course the meal was outstanding. This was a Birthday celebration and certainly met all our expectations. As usual, The Marine Room delivered an Outstanding experience.
Probably the best ambience of nearly any restaurant. Service was great. And the food was great. The quality of the food was exceptional. Although, serving size of the main course was rather skimpy. Did I mention the view of the ocean with waves breaking at the window at our table was awesome?
I highly recommend for treating that special someone to an unforgettable evening dinner.
Good food, small portions. I had the Swordfish and it wasn't as good as I have had at other places, but the plate was beautiful and the service was great. Lobster Bisque was fantastic and their famous dessert, was spectacular.
Wonderful ambiance and planning a return visit very soon. Delicious food, great service. Love love love…..
This is an iconic La Jolla restaurant. So nice to be right on the water. The food and service are great too!
Wonderful in every way! Maybe the best restaurant meal ever.
As usual, the food was fabulous and the ambiance perfect. We had the crabcake and scallop appetizers. The crabcake is a marine room favorite for us-a lot of crab (not filler), a beautiful little “salad” on top. Don’t know if it was the sauce or the salad that had a little kick in it, but it was perfect. The scallops were melt-in-your-mouth. They keep the bread and butter flowing and I try to resist but it’s so good. My husband had filet mignon and I had ahi. Every dish is a work of art but they outdid themselves with the ahi. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavor matched. Perfectly seared. My husband loved his filet mignon. We always have the Meyer lemon tart for dessert. It’s tart and sweet. Since I still had red wine to drink, I asked for a couple extra dark chocolate sticks. The perfect finish to our wonderful dinner.
Service is always impeccable here but it was off just a little tonight. Meal service was fine and ultra-professional but plates sat too long at the end and we had to ask twice for the bill. Not a big issue but that is unusual for the MR. High tide provided us with awesome entertainment. I highly recommend the Marine Room. It never disappoints.
We dined at high tide and it was terrific!! Presentation of our entrees was magnificent.
One of the best dinners in a long time. Service was excellent and the view to die for.
High Tide Dinner. Menu selection was excellent. Food quality was excellent. Waiter was a corpse, wore a mask the whole time, whispered, disappeared for large blocks of time. Had to pour our own wine, request bread, extra butter. Bill was $400+, service was worth $2.
Very nice restaurant. Always go when i am in San Diego. Spectacular setting
Beautiful dining room with stunning views of the sunset and ocean waves, crashing against the windows when it is high tide. The food and service were very good, although due to labor shortages and supply issues, I believe, it is a somewhat limited menu. Nevertheless, it is a perfect place to go especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. Be sure to reserve early and be prepared to wait if you absolutely must have a table by one of their many windows. There really isn't a bad table in the restaurant. The bar is very nice as well, and a nice place to have a cocktail while waiting to be seated. Their "Ultimate Dirty Martini" was perfect!
I took my wife to the Marine Room for our 9th anniversary. Everything hands down was the best. I consider myself to be an extremely judgmental individual when it comes to “pay for what you should get” wow. This places lives up to that. Our tab was easily over $200 but the atmosphere and wait staff was amazing. Well worth the price. Extremely high value for the overall experience. The manager even came out to wish us a happy anniversary.
Great food and service
Great place for delicious food and great view. Will have too back for actual high tide.
Honestly the best way to describe it was “meh” it’s a tourist spot. Ingredients for dishes are good...Locals know better. That’s all I will say. Must try if you are a tourist
Great experience and wonderful spot to take a date. Amazing service and food. Very pricey though so be prepared to spend at minimum a couple hundred dollars for two people.
Its been awhile since being back , but worth the wait ! Food was the best I had in San Diego for the last 10 years. I guess the Marine room has a relatively new chef. Menu was excellent . Service the best , and a motivated staff. Go there, bit pricy but value for money.😁
The View, service and atmosphere was quite spectacular. The seafood was cooked to perfection; highly recommend the scallops. Kudos to the Chef that made my birthday celebration fantastic and memorable.
The food was delicious and presented beautifully. Thanks again for a wonderful dinner experience!
Loved the view and the food was spectacular!
We had a lovely final dinner on a trip celebrating our anniversary here this week. The view of the ocean is incredible, the food is delicious and portioned correctly for rich foods. The staff was wonderful. We look forward to coming back someday on another visit to La Jolla!
The Marine Room feels like an old 1950s restaurant with a lovely ambience and amazing views of the ocean. This is a great place to go on special occasions, providing you are not on a budget. Service tends to be very slow--I assume this is because they want you to be able to linger over dinner. So, if you have some one in your party who does not enjoy a 2.5-3 hour meal, keep that in mind. If you are some one who loves to linger and visit for hours, this is a great place for you!
Fabulous, very expensive, but, not an issue when the food and service is superb!!
Absolutely fantastic dinner - Chef Sebastian Lode is fabulous.
Service, food, and view were outstanding. The only thing I would have changed was to lower the AC, we were sweating at our table. But other than that, it was perfect!
Great! Had a great time and the view was amazing
The hype of The Marine Room is the location and high tide is the best possible scenario!
The tide was not very high, so the ambiance/view did not live up to the hype! That being said, the view was very nice.
The staff was attentive and the food and drinks were good.
Really a great experience. Great food great views. Loved it.
We’ve been going to the Marine Room for 15 years and this was absolutely the very best. When asked what changed we learned they hired a new chef, Mike, who has managed to add something truly special.
Great place, love the dinner and the view, next will get a window table.
Best view in all of San Diego!
