The Marine Room
Need to book at 5:45 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Excellent food, service and ambience. Would definitely return!
I had gone to the Marine Room to eat at the High Tide and it was really good. They have since changed it and now call it a breakfast instead of a brunch therefore it has a limited menu. The price has gone up and the food choices have gone down. The view was fantastic, but overall there was nothing memorable about the food. My eggs benedict was lukewarm. The sausages were good, but the bacon was overcooked. Since I am just speaking about the breakfast, I would not recommend it to a friend. I have had dinner at the restaurant and will return for that again, but will not do the breakfast again.
We were there for the High Tide Brunch. The setting was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. It was fun watching the waves hit the glass in front of our table - make sure your reservation is at high tide to get the best experience.
Place is historic & we were so pleased to be served by Hector- a 35 yr veteran at this restaurant 🙏
An absolute disappointment from the moment we walked to the hostess. Our table (reservation via Open Table) took 10 befuddling minutes to set despite our reservation.
A member of our party had been to the venue before & had remembered it as a classy, high end, sophisticated brunch. It was very sad to experience the brunch we just endured.
The brunch offered was a buffet of generic food, over cooked, under seasoned, and not worthy of the location.
The service was an absolute low point. After the initial 10 minutes to be seated, the server reluctantly took our drink order. The drinks arrived some time after we finished at the buffet. Our server, Tyler(?) then disappeared and a rather nice woman checked in with us once. We would have loved another drink, which were a high point.
We were, however, treated to the sounds of a litany of feckless staff wandering about asking for a fork, while 4 of them reset a table at a spectacularly relaxed pace. (This was written by my husband with 30+ years in the industry.)
For a >$200 brunch, this was nowhere near the service, nor quality I would have expected.
We have been coming to the Marine Room for years and have always had a wonderful experience. I think it is one of the very best restaurants in town. Bernard is so creative and the food is delicious. I love seeing the tide come in and out on the beach and all the activities, day or night.
Beautiful buffet. Fresh. Delicious. Gorgeous King Tide.
The High Tide breakfast is a favorite of ours when our landlocked relatives from back East visit. We had a small storm approaching during our meal which made the view spectacular. We also enjoyed watching a seal hunt for its breakfast just outside our window.
As for food, I enjoyed the berry agrumes ricotta blintz and chocolate swirl brioche French Toast. Others in my party enjoyed the truffle Eggs Benedict and the smoked salmon. The fresh orange juice was amazing as well as finishing the meal off with a slice of delicious hibiscus lemon tart.
Service was attentive and friendly. Our server noticed my daughter was not feeling well and had not eaten more than a few slices of fresh fruit. Without asking, her meal was not included on the final bill which was very much appreciated.
Thank you! We'll be back. Would love to catch a meal when the waves are crashing against the windows!
Great experience! This was our first time dining at The Marine Room and our expectations were exceeded. They definitely made the night special
Excellent food in a wonderful setting
Lobster night was phenomenal! Definitely will be back.
Excellent as always
Food was delicious, view is nice. Will definitely be coming back
Delicious food and great interaction with the server. Recommend this to anyone looking for a date, business meeting, or just a foodie wanting to treat themselves. Also if you’re expecting the waves to be at the window, check a tide map before booking a reservation.
Fantastic, as always. Reserved well in advanced and they honoured my request for a table by the window. Food was superb, although wish they had tried harder to accommodate my vegetarian wife. Will return here, as often as possible!
The food was excellent my duck was very well prepared the flavor was excellent and the atmosphere and view was excellent.
My wife’s scallops were great too.
The Marine room is always on point. Never lets us down. We like to celebrate special events here because it is a perfect place for special events and fantastic memories. With the view to match.
Tastes lived up to the spectacular presentation! Hostess and server were courteous, attentive, and professional without being stiff. Waves were too small to hit the glass even at high tide, which is much better for digestion 😆
Great ocean view delicious food very sophisticated with nice presentation thumbs up for the chefs.. friendly server we loved it we will definitely be back
We were early for reservation and given option to be seated. So being seated early we wanted to take our time so we could see the tide come in. Was no problem for our server. He timed every to our likening and we enjoyed a great post VD dinner. One of our favorites.
My husband and I went here for their Valentine's preset menu. While the food was good, the ambiance was not romantic in any capacity, though it was quiet it felt quite crowded, and felt anything BUT intimate.. This experience was nowhere near worth the $165 per person they charged. There are far better fine dining experiences that are deserving of such a hefty price tag. Extremely disappointed and very hesitant to ever revisit again.
Tnks! My Wife and I had a excellent Dinner/evening
Still the most romantic restaurants in San Diego. The view is perfect and the food was as great as ever.
Everything at Marine Room was perfect. The reservation was on time and seated us on schedule. Hostess was polite and friendly. The waiter explained the dishes to use also very polite. The food was good.
Our reservation was at 845 and was not seated until 930. Food was not warm and not worth the prix fixe menu price! You are really paying for the view!
Waited an extra ~20 minutes to be seated.
Soup came out almost cold.
Duck came out cold.
My wife waited ~30 minutes (which they comped-thank you).
I wish this place lived up to the hype. We were really excited to be able to try the prix fixe menu but unfortunately they seemed very busy, which causes service to lack and thus the experience to be far from expectation, especially with the price tag.
Totally disappointed. Trying to be a high end restaurant but doesn’t deliver. We had the valentine day fixed menu and the only good course was the salmon sashimi which they didn’t have to cook. Dinner cost 550 and would never go there again. Salad was week and wilted and the soup was very pungent. Lobster tails were under done. A Total bust.
Not much as changed in 30 years, same decor, carpet smells, very dated. Food wise, beautiful, presentation, but small portions and mediocre taste, severely overpriced even for a holiday prix fixe. Can’t think of a reason to return, sadly.
Took the Mrs. out to dinner for Valentine's day. Nice evening.
Valentine’s Dinner was amazing.
The staff was excellent. The view of La Jolla Cove was beautiful.... Amazing food and amazing service.
Great food, great service, great location... very thoughtful wine list.
We had a wonderful meal. The service was exceptional.
Had another lovely experience at the Marine Room!! The food is always so delicious and the service impeccable! We often come here to celebrate special occasions!
Our server was very helpful. The food was incredible, as was the wine.
