The Marc Ratings and Reviews
Been going to the Marc for years. Have yet to have a bad meal. This time we tried the foie gras and crab phyllo appetizer. The foie gras was amazing, it melted in your mouth. The crab phyllo was like a spring roll filled with crab meat. For our mains we had the steak of course - excellent and done as requested. I had the chieken breast special - a little disappointing, the chicken was quite salty and the greens kind of wilted under the chicken. For dessert we shared the beignets.
Definitely one of our favourite restaurants in the city. French/European inspired cuisine, consistently high quality, good service, good selection of wine/cocktails. Whether you’re looking for a nice place to take a date or quick business lunch, you can’t go wrong with The Marc. Great food, great ambiance (bright, modern, good energy), great service. Highly recommend.
We went to the Marc for an anniversary dinner. The food was exceptional and the wait staff were friendly and relatively efficient. However, the Marc bills itself as a fine dining, special occasion restaurant and the service failed on several counts to raise itself to that level. For example, despite there being five free tables in a row in a half empty restaurant, we and two other couples on dates were seated together in three consecutive tables instead of spaced with empty tables intervening. We know that the other couples were on dates because we could hear every aspect of their conversation, despite each couple trying to speak softly and give one another privacy. I was seated closer to the person next to me than I was to my wife across the table. This made the experience awkward and really detracted from our night. We would go back to the Marc but would be more assertive about our seating to allow for some intimacy in our dining experience.
We have been to the Marc before and enjoyed our dining experience. On this night, we wanted to visit with friends while enjoying a delicious meal. We could actually hear each other, which we can't in many restaurants nowadays and we were not disappointed in the food or the service.
Definitely high on our list.
We had such a great time at The Marc! My husband and I went with two of our friends to eat before heading to Rogers Place for a concert and everything was amazing! Our server read the table perfectly and was funny and joking around with us and also had amazing suggestions for food and drink. The restaurant was busy and lively... just the way we like it, we laughed and ate great food the entire time!
Everyone at our table really enjoyed the food however we all found it very pricey. The service was very good. Excellent waitress!!
$19 for a glass of wine seems pretty steep. The Pintade with mushrooms and potatoes/parsnips was so delicious!!!!! I had a glass of wine, Pintade, coffee & Baileys and a lemon tart which totalled $69. By the time I added a 20% tip (well deserved),
My bill was $82 which I found very expensive. My friends all said the same thing.
I've been to The Marc a few times, and the food has always been outstanding. I love how the mains come with creative sides such as cannellini bean puree, Israeli Couscous, etc. It's great to have a break from the potatoes and seasonal veggies combo you find everywhere. Everything is very well executed and presented, it's really a treat for me. The ambiance is also quite nice.
Service has also been good in general. Attentive, polite (most of the time), and fast. My one complaint is that in my last visit our server did something I find EXTREMELY rude: brought the check to the table without a request from us. I actually wanted an espresso after my dinner and he didn't even ask if we needed anything else before bringing the check. I still consider this a high quality restaurant and I'd recommend it for quick dinners. But I'd stay away when looking to enjoy company in a special occasion, as I definitely felt pushed out.
