The Mandrake Small Plates + Wine is a cozy restaurant that serves New American and Asian-inspired cuisine. The restaurant's interior is modern with low lighting, bright sculptures and glowing pendants. It's equipped with several TVs and chalkboard that outline the day's special brews. The Mandrake offers a nice view at its wooden tables. It's a great place to enjoy a casual meal in a comfortable, contemporary atmosphere.
Begin the meal with white bean and artichoke hummus served with fresh baked pita bread, buttered crab fritters or a variety of mini-sandwiches and thin crust flatbreads. The restaurant also offers sushi rolls and vegetable sides. The Mandrake offers several innovative main courses including Ahi tuna salad, salmon with goat cheese and pomegranate seeds and duck with honey-soy glaze served with a spring roll and bok choy.
I tried to call the restaurant every day for 5 days at varying times and could never get anyone to pick up the phone. I made sure several times that I was dialing the right number. I was calling to make sure we could add a few people to our reservation for my husband's 40th birthday. Since I could not get confirmation, I had to book a different restaurant to accomadate all of our guests. Open table would not let me cancel the reservation so I had to make another account in order to book the second restaurant. Not happy with this experience.
Horrible service. Girl messed up my order. Took forever to get food even though there were only two tables... Still had to pay for my food even though it was wrong. Hashbrowns were soggy and coffee had grounds in the bottom.
Delicious! we tried about 6 or 7 items on the menu and they were all wonderful. The scallops were great!
Food was great. The service wasn't bad, but it was very slow.
My hubby and I stopped in for a quick brunch and sat at the bar. We were greeted by the upbeat bartender who walked us through the whole menu. All of her suggestions were spot on. She even said the chefs french toast would be life changing and boy was she right. We can't wait to stop in next week for their live music.
The food was absolutely amazing! The waitress had an upbeat voice and personality, and she really made our experience wonderful one.
The service was fine, we were checked up on frequently. We took advantage of the half off bottle of wine, and it somehow was still $25 for a bottle of wine that is usually $9 at the store. We had the grilled chicken Caesar, the chicken was extremely overcooked and inedible, the grilled romaine baby hearts were not cleaned so there was some grit in a few bites. The grilled cheese sliders were supposed to be a mix of multiple cheeses but were excessively goat cheese and not even on slider buns. The spicy chicken dip itself was great, however the flour tortilla chips were extremely soggy, full of oil, seemed like they were fried but the oil wasn't hot enough. Had high expectations for the food, definitely not going back.
We had Sunday brunch for which they seemed totally unprepared. The food was bland & uninspired. The steak (with eggs) was properly cooked but the burgers were way Overcooked and completely unseasoned. The hash browns were prepared with a sweet sauce and pecans- not a good accompaniment for a savory dish like eggs. Coffee was offered but there was no drink or juice menu. Our waiter was nice but must have been new/poorly trained as he was very uninformed. So many great restaurants in Charlotte. I would not waste time here again.
Our waiter worked overtime to make sure we were taken care of despite the obnoxious party who was taking up a lot of space, and extremely loud.
Service from the waitstaff was great and the food was delicious, the food was a little slow to come out though.
