we have stayed and eaten here about 6 times over 40 years. Not surprisingly the lodge, formally the Ahwahnee, is showing it’s age. Paint, decor, maintenance have suffered while prices have climbed, but it still remains a spectacular destination due to location.
The lodge restaurant experience was disappointing as the service was desultory, the food cold as the waiter, George who has been there at least 40 years, seemed to have forgotten our order, vegetables mushy, the water never refilled, bread dishes empty as none was offered and the food and drinks overpriced. Besides that, the restaurant is still a destination choice due the great ambience of the lodge.

Food was tasty but portions very small. Dinner sides were basically just a smear on the plate for garnish. People left the table still hungry and the bill for 4 people was over $200. The park is lovely but we would choose another restaurant.

The front desk lady was stoned-cold and her application of dress code was not consistent. While insisting on me warring a collar shirt (despite having a smart jacket), she let many other in with simply a fleece outwear with round neck t-shirt. Half suspecting its discrinination against asians. She insisted on me wearing an over sizes collar shirt on loan from the cloak room before allowing us entrance. It is one of the worst experiences i have encountered in the US

Considering the price of the meal I expected a much better experience. My wife had the New York strip steak which was mediocre at best. I had the rack of lamb which was marginally better than my wives meal. The kids meanie choices were poor and the waiter was unable or unwilling to substitute ingredients not specific to the meal. The service was painfully slow, our server tended to disappear for ten to fifteen minutes at a time, on a positive note the runners kept my water cup topped off, and the management staff came around and was very friendly. The menu could use a serious update and the wait service needs some serious attention. For such a beautiful dining room and wonderful ambience it’s a shame the only remnants of the once great Ahwahnee dining room is the high price.

The performance of the piano was very good.
The sound didn’t disturb a dinner and conversation.
Though the selection of music was orthodox, its arrangement was wonderful
It’t was cozy.

I'm sorry to say this was a very disappointing experience on every front and made worse since we really looked forward to it on our vacation.

Food - fair. Service - slow. Wait- Frustrating. Ambience - Tired but Lodgy.
Value - Very expensive? I think we paid $18 for a burger and fries. Ouch. We also ordered a shrimp salad to share - it was OK. and Calamari which was weak.

I would not recommend for lunch - maybe dinner is better. It looked pricey

Service was attentive and very well presented. The views and the dining room are beautiful. Food was unfortunately mediocre. At the same price point Tenaya and Wawona offer better tasting and greater variety of offerings and there really isn't a good reason for the disparity. Drinks were very good.

The former Ahwahnee hotel is spectacular. It was a shame that for the price, the food was not up to that rating. Maybe I was more disappointed because people had told me that when they went to the hotel years ago, the restaurant was outstanding. Obviously, that has not continued under this owner. No matter what, this is a spectacular room to eat in, and no matter how average the food is, the experience of being there outweighs it.

My family and I were very disappointed by the service and quality of food when we visited this past week. Our drink orders were taken upon arrival, but we then waited 20+ minutes for the waiter to arrive to take our order. We were there at an off time, so the dining room was very empty, however we watched our waiter flit around to other tables, not even acknowledging us. When we finally caught his attention, he took our orders without specifying several things. My over-easy eggs arrived without toast (just eggs and a small side of fruit) - apparently ordering bread was extra but our waiter failed to mention this. My husband's salad came with a side of ranch dressing, which he did not order. Again, our waiter failed to ask him for his dressing preference, so I assume he guessed and had a side of Ranch added to it. My husband is vegan so this did not work for him, but it was impossible to flag our waiter down again and so we decided it was easier to just eat the bland salad. My mother asked to have her leftovers wrapped to take home... again this was request was ignored and so we simply left. The bill was close to $100 - way overpriced for the poor service and overall experience. Very disappointed, since this meal was supposed to be a highlight of our vacation.

Amazing, historic venue with terrible food. Service was friendly but dead slow--we were half way through brunch before drinks arrived--and it was half empty. Most of all the price was OUTRAGEOUS for the quality of food. We had the brunch buffet, which featured warm oysters, mushy shrimp, crab that tasted a bit off, ten kinds of dry meat, and edible, if somewhat flavorless prime rib. We would have been better off cooking up some freeze dried camp food in the parking lot, and would have saved about a hundred and ninety bucks. For two people.

Beautiful setting of course, great service. Was rail-roaded into buying the $54.00 brunch person after confirming the regular lunch menu would be available, it wasn't. The brunch food was adequate but nothing special and not worth the money, obviously you're paying for the atmosphere. The whole hotel needs better maintaining. Drapes in dining room were dirty, walls had dirt on them, rugs had visible duct tape holding them in place. It's a shame the management doesn't respect the legacy of it being a special hotel.

Don't dine at the Yosemite Majestic. We made a 12:15 reservation days in advance. The online reservation included the menu. We arrived early, but were not seated until after 12:15 when we were seated in a corner between 2 work stations, in spite of the fact that many tables were not occupied. The menu was entirely different. The menu was for a typical breakfast or a $50+ buffet, not the variety on the menu printed with our reservation. The buffet looked picked over. Before ordering, we told the waitress that we were very disappointed, but she offered no alternative. We needed to eat, so we ordered soup and salad. The soup was lukewarm, and the salad was skimpy and lacked the ingredients that one would expect in a $13 salad. No bread was served, so we asked the waitress for bread. When no bread was brought to our table, we asked her assistant. Still no bread, so we asked the waitress again. Bread was not brought to the table until we were practically finished eating. The cold bread looked and tasted like bread off of a Bimbo loaf that was kept in the refrigerator. Even though we were seated between 2 work stations, we were forgotten by the waitress and her assistant.
On the way out, we told the maitre d', and he promptly passed us off to the manager who offered us the buffet at an unspecified discount after we had told her that we were not interested in eating off of a buffet, and that we had already eaten soup and salad. We were insulted by the insinuation we could not afford to pay whatever we wanted to pay.
We are world travelers, and we frequently enjoy fine dining wherever we go. We are willingly to pay premium prices when we receive Michelin Star chef quality meals and service quality commensurate with the price.
We dine frequently at national park restaurants, and, in fact, have dined previously at the Ahwahnee. The new ownership / management is a disgrace to the Ahwahnee reputation.
BTW - Tenaya has 3 very good restaurants with excellent service.

My only feedback would be to request that the wait staff not gather and chat at the service stations. We were seated right next to a service station and throughout our meal, there were several servers that would stand around there and talk about personal stuff quite loudly. SO loudly in fact, that we couldn't hear the pianist or even our own table conversations. If possible, I would request a table away from a station like this.

Our lunch was a big disappointment. We ordered and waited over 20 minutes just for our drinks to come (sodas). After that, we waited over an hour for our food (salads). Once the food arrived, it was mediocre at best. I had a Caesar salad with chicken, but the chicken seemed old/stale and it was cold and tasteless. My husband mentioned the same problem with the chicken on his salad. My son's grilled cheese was cold, even after waiting for over an hour. (?) The view was beautiful and the ambiance was great--I wish the food had been better. We won't return to the restaurant.

Beautiful dining room. Server two stars ( loud and a little obnoxious), server’s assistant five stars. Trout 3.5 stars, Rueben 3 stars, fries not fresh, Ceaser salad the worst, zero flavor, very sparse for price. I returned it and got a little dinner salad. Food sub par for beautiful dining room and upscale hotel. Even though food just OK, it’s a treat to dine in this beauty. Nice gift shop. Very nice, cozy bar.

We were fortunate to get a table at the Majestic Hotel thanks to advance reservations. It was well worth the effort for the delicious food, great ambiance and lovely grand piano player. Any restaurant that has prime rib on the kids’ menu gets an A plus for knowing it’s clientele well enough to offer exactly what they want for dinner.

I have been to Sunday brunch at the Majestic Hotel four years in a row now, and was very disappointed by this most recent experience. The price has gone up every year, for the brunch buffet, and this year it is a whopping $50 per person and the food and selections have declined. I would return to the Majestic for it's beauty and historic value, but I would definitely order a plate from the menu rather than the buffet which is no longer worth the price charged.

While visiting Yosemite my parents and I decided to have dinner at the Majestic yosemite hotel formerly known as anawahana hotel.
The hotel is gorgeous. There are giant fireplaces and lots of couches and places to sit down and enjoy a cocktail while waiting to be seated for dinner. The dining room which featured 30 foot ceilings, large windows, ornate curtains, medieval chandeliers, white colored table clothes and candle operas. It is has a romantic ambience. We originally made a reservation through opentable for 7:30 pm. Our reservation was cancelled through opentable and we were really confused. The number for the hotel was nearly impossible to find on the internet. When we finally got in touch with them they said they could only seat us at 7:15 But when we arrived and throughout dinner there were numerous tables open. Our waiter was nice and our water glasses were always kept filled. One of the bus boys was very friendly and had a nice conversation with us. Now on to the food. For appetizers we order Duck Gnocchi, poached calamari, and black bean soup. The duck gnocchi was not great. I found that the flavors did not work well together. The squash purée was confusing. My mother did not enjoy the calamari and said that it was cold. Though my dad did rave about the black bean soup. For entrees we had the sturgeon and the prime rib. I did not like the sturgeon at all. It had a sweet orange colored sauce that reminded me of orange soda or fanta. I think the sturgeon was cooked really well but I think the sweet sauce was inedible and ruined the lovely fish. The prime rib was nice and the horseradish cream sauce went really well with it. But for a $48.00 prime rib, the amount of fat was ridiculous. The vegetables were okay but very oily IMO. For desert we ordered the chocolate decadence and it was dry and disappointing. The Irish coffees were great. Overall, I think that the hotel is gorgeous, but the food did not match the setting. Also overpriced for what you get.

We were seated in the alcove, which was just lovely! I had vegetarian onion gratin soup, which was terrific (and rare to find it offered without meat stock) and a delightful poached pear cake for dessert. My friend has the trout which he said was terrible, but he enjoyed his dessert. The ambience is worth it, especially if you can get seated in the alcove!

The setting is beautiful and the staff were great, but the food was extremely disappointing. Bland trout entree for lunch and stale-tasting cold boysenberry pie (supposed to be one of their classics). A Caesar’s salad my husband ordered had about 8 lettuce leaves a few slices of eggs and a handful of croutons - for $7. The devilled eggs to start we’re good. Overall the meal cost $115 and was definitely not worth the money.

Location, location, location...it is the Majestic (Ahwahnee) which is a most incredible place. The food is good, the appetizers are too large and need a little more finesse, I had the duck gnocchi which was good just too much duck for an appetizer. Sometimes the food while looks great is overly complicated with not everything on the plate contributing to a delicious bite.
