I have been to Sunday brunch at the Majestic Hotel four years in a row now, and was very disappointed by this most recent experience. The price has gone up every year, for the brunch buffet, and this year it is a whopping $50 per person and the food and selections have declined. I would return to the Majestic for it's beauty and historic value, but I would definitely order a plate from the menu rather than the buffet which is no longer worth the price charged.

While visiting Yosemite my parents and I decided to have dinner at the Majestic yosemite hotel formerly known as anawahana hotel.
The hotel is gorgeous. There are giant fireplaces and lots of couches and places to sit down and enjoy a cocktail while waiting to be seated for dinner. The dining room which featured 30 foot ceilings, large windows, ornate curtains, medieval chandeliers, white colored table clothes and candle operas. It is has a romantic ambience. We originally made a reservation through opentable for 7:30 pm. Our reservation was cancelled through opentable and we were really confused. The number for the hotel was nearly impossible to find on the internet. When we finally got in touch with them they said they could only seat us at 7:15 But when we arrived and throughout dinner there were numerous tables open. Our waiter was nice and our water glasses were always kept filled. One of the bus boys was very friendly and had a nice conversation with us. Now on to the food. For appetizers we order Duck Gnocchi, poached calamari, and black bean soup. The duck gnocchi was not great. I found that the flavors did not work well together. The squash purée was confusing. My mother did not enjoy the calamari and said that it was cold. Though my dad did rave about the black bean soup. For entrees we had the sturgeon and the prime rib. I did not like the sturgeon at all. It had a sweet orange colored sauce that reminded me of orange soda or fanta. I think the sturgeon was cooked really well but I think the sweet sauce was inedible and ruined the lovely fish. The prime rib was nice and the horseradish cream sauce went really well with it. But for a $48.00 prime rib, the amount of fat was ridiculous. The vegetables were okay but very oily IMO. For desert we ordered the chocolate decadence and it was dry and disappointing. The Irish coffees were great. Overall, I think that the hotel is gorgeous, but the food did not match the setting. Also overpriced for what you get.

We were seated in the alcove, which was just lovely! I had vegetarian onion gratin soup, which was terrific (and rare to find it offered without meat stock) and a delightful poached pear cake for dessert. My friend has the trout which he said was terrible, but he enjoyed his dessert. The ambience is worth it, especially if you can get seated in the alcove!

The setting is beautiful and the staff were great, but the food was extremely disappointing. Bland trout entree for lunch and stale-tasting cold boysenberry pie (supposed to be one of their classics). A Caesar’s salad my husband ordered had about 8 lettuce leaves a few slices of eggs and a handful of croutons - for $7. The devilled eggs to start we’re good. Overall the meal cost $115 and was definitely not worth the money.

Location, location, location...it is the Majestic (Ahwahnee) which is a most incredible place. The food is good, the appetizers are too large and need a little more finesse, I had the duck gnocchi which was good just too much duck for an appetizer. Sometimes the food while looks great is overly complicated with not everything on the plate contributing to a delicious bite.

We visit Yosemite every year in November for my husband's conference. Every year I make a reservation in advance (at least 1-2 months) at the Majestic Yosemite Dining Room. Otherwise, you will miss out on the outstanding food and excellent service. The live piano player is always an added treat to the evening. We look forward to next year!

Husband really enjoyed burger, could be more generous with thier fries. No more than 20 fries were on the plate. Salad was fresh, subbed chicken for shrimp, citrus dressing was just right for me. Would have been nice to have a roll or cracker accompany it. Will try breakfast next time.

The Ahwahnee Dining Room is a spectacular venue with its beamed 33 feet ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. It offers a great variety of delicious breakfast menu choices and an excellent breakfast buffet. A breakfast there should be in everyone’s bucket list, but go Monday through Saturday. The buffet breakfast on Sunday is lavish and sumptuous but a little pricey.

Dinner at the Ahwahnee Dining Room is a special treat. The room itself is spectacular with high beam ceilings and warm lighting. The space keeps it from being too noisy and it is easy to converse. While not overly extensive, the creative menu offers something for everyone whether you are looking for a full course dinner or a salad and an appetizer. The poached calimari appetizer was a wonderful surprise. The wine list is extensive and varied. Everyone should dine here at least once.

Eating here is always a part of my experience going to Yosemite Valley. I stayed at Wawona and had the hotel call to confirm open table reservation at the Ahwahnee/Majestic. They told me it was set, but when I got to the Majestic, I went over to the Reservation window and found out the reservation was not set correctly. Nevertheless, The gentleman behind the window smoothed everything out and got me in right away since they had open tables.
I was given a wonderful seat and was catered to for ordering and any needs I had. After my meal, the waitress suggested their house made coffee gelato. It was fabulous, w/their own seriously good biscotti and fresh berries. Yum!

Excellent service and food. The dining room doesn't have the elegance that it used to have 30+ years ago, partly because of the now more relaxed dress code and partly because the dining room seems a little tired. But we celebrated our anniversary with dinner at "the Majestic" (quotes and eye-roll intended) and had a great time. The prime rib, although quite pricey, was abundant and delicious. Perhaps the best I have ever had. The grilled sturgeon was also very good. I had indicated on our Open Table reservation that is was our anniversary, and they brought us out a delightful anniversary cupcake (see photo). All in all a great dining experience.

We go to the Majestic every anniversary and lately it's always been the same...a "dress code" that they don't enforce, (lots of jeans and loose shirts), which cheapens the experience for those of us looking for a special and high class dinner and is hypocritical, (don't have a dress code if you're not going to enforce it!) and mediocre food. Come on, guys...you've got the most amazing setting to work with, both inside and out of the hotel! Why can't you live up to it?

Lovely hotel setting and dining room. Service was great. Food so so. Had a pastrami reuben. Meat was generic deli pastrami with little flavor, a very average sandwich. For the price, should have good roasted pastrami and then experience would have been special.

Surpringly Bad. Have eaten here many times & very surprised all 4 of our meals were not up to standard. Rack of Lamb desired doness was med rare and it came back well done. Chicken was very dry & over cooked.....on and on and on. Not sure if the change in management also changed the cook staff but very noticeable. At the prices they charge very disappointing. Will eat elsewhere at our next visit.

The dining room is cavernous with hard surfaces everywhere so every clink of a glass and cry of a child is magnified. We were first taken to a table in the main room lit brightly in the afternoon sun to such a degree that it could've blinded the unlucky members of our group forced to face the window. When asked if we could move to the next table over which was out of the sun, we were told that that table and those tables similarly situated around it were 'closed' because they didn't have a server in that station. We continued to object and our objections resulted in our being re-seated in 'the alcove,' which, let me tell you, is THE place to sit. It's a gorgeous 3-sided ante-room at the far end of the dining room, with ceiling-to-floor windows on all sides from where the breathtaking views of the granite monoliths and Fall-colored oaks & maples surrounding the hotel could be viewed and savored while dining. The food was secondary -- not bad, just not great -- but we weren't there for the food. We were there for the Majestic (formerly Ahwahnee) experience, the memory of which we will carry with us forever. P.S. Our server, Charlie, was fabulous!!

We were in Yosemite for a weekend trip and decided to treat ourselves after a beautiful (but strenuous) hike up Upper Yosemite Falls. The Awahanee (or Majestic Yosemite Hotel, name is tied up in a [silly] legal battle) is a beautiful hotel. The Main Dining hall is exquisite. The ambiance is quite special. It's a grand hotel in an outsanding location and I highly recommend it. The food lived up to the hype as well. Best meal in the valley by far. Highly recommend.

You have to be kidding me!?!? Making a reservation over 2 months in advance was for nothing. The management of the Majestic hotel is horrible from every aspect of the service here. It is a beautiful hotel in the middle of Yosemite. But the management and employees now running this facility are clueless to what 4 star service means. Truly evident that this is a Federal contract awarded to the lowest bidder. So sad given the venue.

We were a party of 12, reserved months in advance for our special trip, greatly looking forward to our last night finale' dinner at the Majestic/Ahwahnee. The reservation was at 8 pm but they were able to seat us early. We were not a priority to our waiter. I'm not sure he had much experience in a fine restaurant. We were left waiting long periods of time with no attention. The appetizers were served before the drinks and wine. By the time we finished the main course we were out of time to catch the last shuttle back to our lodge and had to leave without coffee or dessert. One in our party had a birthday and it had been arranged ahead of time for her to receive a special treat. But that was forgone as well because we had spent so much time waiting and ran out of time. The staff was taking away the candles and breaking down tables around us. Not a welcoming gesture. It is a beautiful restaurant. The food, once we got it was fine, and lives up to its reputation. But the service was so bungled, it made for a very second class experience. A disappointment after months of anticipation.

The dining room is gorgeous and very romantic. The menu is somewhat limited with about 8 entree choices. My husband got the lamb and I got the chicken. Both were fine, not memorable. The service was VERY slow. We sat for 20 minutes before we were greeted and given water and bread. We were there a total of 2 hours before we were given our check. Too long. Not too expensive. Wine is about 20% more then most places. Worth the setting, but the meal was not fabulous.

The former Awahnee hotel is really gorgeous for its history and setting in Yosemite park with magnificent views. I had wanted to eat at the dining room but throughout the years wasn't ready to scrub up and abide by the "strict dress code". This time my friend and I decided to splurge -it's expensive- and made our reservation for Saturday evening. We showed up after a long day of hiking, dressed per instructions to find to find there were no Such restrictions being enforced. People were in jeans and mostly more casual than expected.

The menu was ok but not very broad which may have something to do with the late season {October)
I ordered beet salad and lamb chops. My friend also had beet salad with sturgeon. The $14 salads were delicious. The sturgeon was well prepared and tasty. The $44 lamb chops were ordered medium rare. I asked for mint sauce and they brought mint jelly - not the same thing and for international crowd should consider adding. The first was close enough to what I ordered but the last two were very rare. I asked the waiter to have them cooked a little more but then they came back well done. Very disappointed the chef didn't care enough to ensure perfect the second time around. The maitre 'd was very apologetic and removed the cost from the bill

The room is really spectacular with immense windows, chandeliers fitting with the stone and wood decor, complemented by soft piano music. Take a bit of extra time before dinner to have a drink outdoors or, in cooler weather indoors in the great room in front of the fire roaring in a huge fireplace.
Won't spend the money there again for dinner but always for drinks or a quick lunch. After so many years going to Yosemite, its still the awahnee to me, and the loss of its name - now known as the Majestic - due to concessionaire change, is very sad
