We had a wonderful time and the food was fantastic (as it always is). No better steaks anywhere in the country! Plus the side dishes are perfect and the wine list is also very good. The service is especially nice; not hovering but just the right attention. Love the Majestic!!
I just love the Majestic
The steaks are excellent and the service is wonderful. You feel like you have stepped back in time.
We had a great meal at the Majestic. The steaks were outstanding. It's known for its steaks so that's what we ordered. The other couple split a steak and the waiter was very accommodating, even letting then know a complete order of sides is available so, each of the two splitting the entree would get there own. This was not explicit on the menu. So thanks to the waiter for thinking of us. It's pricey but worth it if you want to try it. BTW make early reservations to sit in the jazz club. We enjoyed the upstairs restaurants period decor, but there is no music upstairs.
We were seated downstairs and were entertained with live jazz right around the time we ended our meal at 7 pm. Our waiter was very attentive and patient as it was our first time there and it took us a while to decide on our selections. The ambiance was nice and even when the band started up it wasn’t too loud. All of our menu selections were delicious. Good sized portions, a nice variety of choices and no one left hungry or disappointed. Highly recommended!
The entire experience was remarkable! The food was great the wine was great the Ambiance was awesome and a good choice on the wine menu.
Wonderful. Great steak. Loved the Elder Hombre drink. LOVED the jazz band.
Very loud music for such a small space in the basement. Food was not terrible but there are much better steaks can be found around Kansas City.
Outstanding service. We visited for lunch. The food was delicious.
Great experience and brunch menu day for Mother's Day
Had brunch here on Mother's day and the food wsa excellent along with the service.
Great music and food , but a bit loud for conversation.
Everything was great about the majestic! It was a surprise for my wife and she loved it. We ate in the Jazz Hall, it was perfect! However, it’s not a very big room and the music is a bit loud. Other than that it was perfect. The steak soup is delicious! It’s a must have
We've been eating here for years and really enjoy the quality steaks and Jazz music. This time I made it an extra special occasion by conspiring with my daughter's boyfriend to surprise her with a marriage proposal. She was thrilled and the staff was great in helping pull it off. Oh, she accepted.
The filet is amazing. Wagyu strip was honestly pretty bad, we were extremely disappointed about that, but I would come back for the filet! Great service, loved Cap.
We chose the Majestic for dinner to celebrate our son's wedding. The evening was delightful. Our daughters called and ordered champagne, and it was waiting on the table when we arrived. The service was almost as amazing as the food. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
We had a dinner reservation. When we walked in however the hostess told us they had a large party coming in after us and they needed us to be out by then. I registered my dissatisfaction but they blew it off! Food isn’t that good to be rushed.
We recently celebrated our Anniversary at the Majestic and it is a wonderful choice for any special occasion. Located in a great, historic old building, with live Jazz in one of the dining rooms, a classic old “steak house” menu (with modern variations, e.g. vegan selections, etc.), deliciously prepared food and attentive, but non-intrusive service, The Majestic is well worth the money for a special night out.
Went there for date night with my husband. It was like stepping back in time. Great service, atmosphere and music, fantastic cuts of beef. My only suggestion would be that the steaks need a little seasoning (salt and pepper).
I over hyped the steaks as the best in KC. We had bone in fillets and they were average at best. Very disappointed and embarrassed.
My buddy and I went last night. The restaurant was not very busy when we arrived so we started at the bar. I thought my buddy had checked in but he hadn’t. In any event, we got our table about 6:30. Everything was simply amazing, including the super friendly server. We ended up being there almost fours hours in total and just had a ball catching up and eating some of the best steak we have ever had. Can’t wait for next opportunity!
Love this place. I never write reviews. But it has great character very good food and wonderful staff. Ask for Joe.
The service was great, beautiful location with excellent jazz music. The food was good, but unfortunately our steak was undercooked which was a disappointment. We would visit again to see if that could be done better due to everything else being top notch
Fantastic food, fantastic live piano music and fantastic service. Went for a brunch date and will definitely be going back for a dinner date in the near future.
Dinner was fantastic! Music wonderful...maybe just a bit too load, but loved it!
A friend heard we would be visiting Kansas City and recommended, highly recommended, we check out this restaurant and dine in The Jazz Club. We did and we did. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection, the sides were delicious, the wine and cocktails perfect accompaniments and the speakeasy vibe perfect for a night of live Jazz.
We had a group of 11 for dinner including 4 teenagers. The choices for them were not as abundant as I would have hoped for. The adult steaks were excellent and cooked to order. Salad was average but dressing was tasty. Myself and my brother-in-law ordered a twice baked potato that was cold. We sent it back to be re-warmed and it came back just as cold. Oh well.
The bread was excellent!
Spoke directly to an employee the day before our reservation and was assured a table in the club for dining during the jazz show. Our reservation was not in the club and the manager on duty made no effort to accommodate us and in fact was unfriendly. Steak was poorly prepared and overpriced for what we got. Waiter had a strong tobacco smoke smell. Overall a disappointment. We will not go back and would discourage others from doing so. One positive - an excellent Manhattan.
One of our favorite restaurants in the city! Always great service, food, ambiance.
The restaurant boasts Old Kansas City atmosphere. The food just mediocre, and the servers tryto be obliging. Overall I will never go back...it lacks the good flavor and presentation at table couldn’t get a baked potato at 5pm.
There was a large party that was seated directly behind our table in the jazz club. They had over indulged on the spirits and were obnoxiously loud and one of them had to be carried to his Uber.
The wait staff was great and apologized more than once. They comp’d our desserts which was nice.
The food was great as always and the three piece band did a fine job!
We had a great night celebrating cancer free news! Delicious steaks, awesome server - very knowledgeable for drink selections, and great jazz music. The Majestic has a fabulous atmosphere - a step back in time!
Great Jazz and Food! Enjoyed The Bram Wijnands Trio and our server Clint was awesome, attentive and fun.
Fine overall experience. Possibly a little pricey for the overall experience. Portion sizes are on the conservative side. Wine list was as expected, not outstanding. Would return but only after trying a few alternatives.
We had an amazing evening and dinner. Lamb chops were perfectly cooked and prepared well. Staff were knowledgable, friendly and professional. Always a favorite for dinner.
Celebrated birthday with friends. The musicians were top notch and the food worth the higher price, which is not always the case. Waiters were busy because place was packed but they were responsive and knowledgeable about the wine and menu (again, not always the case in some places). Very professional. But the ambience of this historic place, in the basement level, was perfect, down to the authentic stained glass windows.
The first thing that was confusing was the parking, not clear and makes you worry you will get towed while trying to have a relaxing meal. The next thing was when you walk in there is no updates to the building at all, carpets were worn and there was an odor to the place in the basement especially. We went and spent almost 100, and our food was not cooked the way we wanted it to be and we asked to talk to a manager, who never talked to us, and they gave us an 8.00 credit since my steak was burned. I asked for medium well, and there was no pink and a 1/3 of my steak was charred, where it tasted really salty. I finally just stopped eating the food, it was an expensive meal that I only got to eat the mashed potatoes and green beans. Very unhappy and would never recommend someone go here, try a better steak house .
Always excellent. The jazz club is a great place to dine, enjoy handcrafter cocktails and listen to some music. I wasn't sure what happened to the music last Friday night, maybe it starts later on Friday nights. We usually go on Thursdays before the theatre.
I was a bit surprised at the price tag of the special, $50. It was absolutely delicious, no doubt but it would have been a good "heads up" if the server had mentioned that. However, as noted, it was superb!
We will be back!
Perfect place for date night- an historic speakeasy feel with background jazz during dinner. Ambiance is perfect; bar made good drinks; steak was over-cooked. If the steak were better prepared (we asked for rare, and got medium), it would have been 5 stars. We will be back for a second round sometime soon though.
I took an out of town lady friend here and she was so impressed by the atmosphere. We had a wonderful enjoying dinner and live music even though conversation was a bit challenging during some of the louder numbers. Her filet was amazing but unfortunately my rib-eye was a bit too medium, almost even medium well, for what was ordered medium rare. I chose not to make an issue of it to keep everything positive for the date. I know that's not normal because of past experiences with the same steak and order so it was a fluke.
Was our first time here and it did not disappoint. The building was beautiful and the food was fantastic. We will definitely be returning.
