So excited to have dinner at the Majestic. Soooo disappointed in the food. Salads just ok. Prime rib was dried out and chewy. Certainly not slow roasted that day. Sea bass only fair. Sides were bland and tasteless ( twice baked potato and lobster Mac and cheese). Definitely not what I would call a high end steakhouse. Service was great. Our waitress and the bartender were both supper nice and very accommodating. Unfortunately we will not be returning for dinner again.
Great way to spend a birthday and enjoy a great meal with the outstanding history of the building.
Barbee was a helpful, fun waiter. Prime rib soup was outstanding as was the dry aged rib eye.
Wine list was great, nice background music, loved the building and our waiter took some nice time with us at the end of the meal to tell us the history of the building.
Such a lovely meal and then the jazz lounge after. I live in New England and have traveled to Kansas City on vacation twice and The Majestic is always a must do!
We come here every year for our anniversary and it never disappoints. Amazing food, very caring and focused staff who made it a great evening.
Food was good but for $170 for 2 people I just expected more. Was hoping the steak would be at the best i've had level and it was no better than a steak at most any steak house.
I requested the Jazz room for dinner but was seated in the main dining room.
Gorgeous historic building and fabulous food & service! Highly recommend the seafood etouffee entree & the creme brulee for dessert. Be sure to read the Open Table notes though...we thought we had made a reservation for the jazz club downstairs & were disappointed to not get to hear the live music. Will definitely go back!
It was outstanding as usual. Even got to visit with our favorite Irish bartender, Shawn. First class all the way.❤️
Excellent meal and service!
Our visit was during COVID, and they did a great spacing out tables & vigorous cleaning efforts. The menu has been pared down a bit which didn't bother me and may if you are returning for a specific dish from pre-COVID. They have 2 seatings, 6 & 8p.m. so there is not a crowd in any way, every table was full and it was still a rather quiet/intimate atmosphere. They did have a pianist toward the front of the restaurant and it perfect volume. We tried the house salad, lobster mac & cheese and the 14 oz Prime Rib Eye, great flavor, cooked to my request and had leftovers for lunch the next day. The challenge I always encounter is booking the correct table for the jazz club....when booking online I can never successfully book a table in the jazz club. I think my best bet is to call directly to ensure a table in the jazz club. I would return to the Majestic, I think it is a great celebration restaurant or "I have lived in KC for 10+ years and I have never been" restaurant.
Had a great time bringing my boyfriend here for birthday dinner!
Food was good service was ok waitress needed more knowledge of menu
This restaurant was very neat. The food was great. The steak was good but not sure it was worth $60+. The service was great.
We had not been able to enjoy The Majestic for some time, my husband wanted to treat me the live music and wonderful food we had enjoyed there previously. We were so blessed by the whole experience, from our server to the food to the jazzy upbeat pianist, Brahm! Thank you!
The Majestic never disappoints. The staff is always attentive and customer service is beyond exceptional!
Always enjoyable. Great service safety during COVID was exceptional.
My daughter and I came here for my birthday, and neither of us had been here for several years. We are thrilled that our filets were still the most amazing ever! I had the Majestic filet with peppercorn sauce, and it had such a wonderful flavor. And we split two amazing desserts— the chocolate torte and the cheesecake with raspberry sauce — both outstanding!
Our server was very efficient, attentive and pleasant. We will be back!,
The best steak ever! Their dry-aged steaks were amazing. Also the interior of the restaurant was classy and had atmosphere. Nice service. Will definitely visit again.
Pre-covid we used to come to KC frequently and enjoy trying new things the city has to offer. We were looking for a steak restaurant and a place that offered live jazz music. In previous years, we had dined at 801 and gone to a local jazz club, but The Majestic seemed like a promising option and something different. We had asked around during the days before our dinner on Thursday and everyone said they enjoyed the place. One employee at the hotel where we were staying had just gone the previous weekend and had said good things about it. So going into the evening we felt very confident about our decision to dine there. Because of seating with live music and covid, we were limited to 90 min from the time we walked in the door to receiving our bill.
We love the old charm and character that places like the Majestic have to offer, but the place just felt more old and dirty than charming. The dress code on their website stated “business or business casual”, so we dressed appropriately. We were definitely overdressed for the establishment and as compared to the other diners.
Our server was very nice and accommodating. The signature Manhattan was fantastic. The food was fair, but not worth the price we paid. My 32-day dry aged rib eye was very chewy and a disappointment for a steak in KC. The pepper crusted filet was overly covered with pepper corns and not worth finishing. Because of the rushed timetable, there wasn’t any point to commenting other than “fine”. We received our bill without being asked if we would like desert. We did get to order desert but was urged to eat quickly.
The jazz was just a person playing piano. He was good but it wasn’t like the music in the several other jazz clubs KC has to offer.
So, we will check that off as having experienced another one of KC’s interesting establishments, but we won’t return.
The food, as always, is exceptional. The service, from the greeting to the exit, but particularly our server, Kathryn, was outstanding, truly outstanding. A memorable experience. I highly recommend the Majestic.
The service, food and atmosphere were great! I have never had a bad experience at The Majestic. I can’t wait to go back.
The lamb chops were cooked perfect, the live music was a fantastic accompaniment to a delicious wonderful dinner!!! And the service was great!
Excellent steak and a fantastic whisky drink. I ordered an old fashioned and a different drink was recommended and it was amazing! The greatest server/historian, Barbie gave us the details of the buildings past while an extremely talented pianist played music all evening.
The lamb had good flavor but was tough, steak was fairly bland and tough for cut and price. Service was excellent.
Expensive, but worth it. Wonderful cocktail list and wine list which pair perfectly with their superb dry-aged steaks. Jazz piano during dinner was an extra treat. Very COVID-responsible atmosphere with proper distancing and mask requirements. Would highly recommend.
Perfect night. Good cocktails, great service and great food. We did 6pm reservation so we could enjoy live music and definitely worth it. Only downfall is COVID and time constraint, but they manage it well and it is currently a necessity.
Hands down the best steak I have ever eaten! I would highly recommend the Majestic Restaurant.
The service was excellent. We chose the majestic for the jazz atmosphere In The jazz room. We were informed upon arrival that seating downstairs is only during certain times. I called several times early in the day with zero answer/response. So I chose the only time that was available for us. Upon arrival, we were told we could not be seated downstairs. This was disappointing because we had no way of knowing. I would have selected a different evening if we had known. The service provided was excellent though when we were there.
Their steaks are the best. Live music (piano man) is a welcoming change. I haven't heard real music play since the Blue Room.
Fantastic Valentine's Day outing! We are very thankful this place stays open and provides us with extra joy. Not to mention the Best Bartender in Kansas City
We got there when first open and was disappointed there was no background music. But once that got turned on it was a flawless night. Our server was perfect. Knowledgeable and efficient. The kind of service that made me say thank you every time she was at our table. The food was amazing.
We look forward to returning when it’s nicer outside. Go at a time live music is playing.
Perfect value for us.
Had the best experience here for our anniversary! Cannot wait to go back!
Great ambiance with the live music! It felt like we were the only ones there! The tables are spaced out well for social distancing too. Perfect for a snazzy jazzy date night! Service was great too!
Food, ambiance, jazz, history and waitstaff were outstanding. A magnificent evening. Price point a bit high but to be expected in a Covid limited environment. Fewer tables meant, however, that the threadbare carpet was pretty obvious. And that, friends, is the only negative thing I can say about a damn good steakhouse and jazz lounge.
Excellent service from the hostess to the waiters, perfectly attentive & polite. The food is always wonderful, from the steak soup to the steaks to the dessert & coffee.
Had a lovely time and server was very attentive and talkative. Great job!!
