Trip Advisor has Majestic as the #2 steakhouse in KC. We were disappointed, for we've had much better steaks at Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn. Majestic doesn't even serve bread with the meal--a great feature of both TR and Longhorn.
Great steaks, great service, in a historic building. When in Kansas City, don't hesitate to go here. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience!
It’s a treat to have dinner in the basement with live music. The food is excellent and the ambiance is unapologetically old-fashioned, although don’t let this latter observation deter you; it’s part of the charm rather than a detraction. Prices are high, so plan on $100 per person, but the steak is the best in town and the staff treats you like nobility.
visited during a one night stay in KC. we chose it due to the live music, great looking menu and the reviews...we were NOT disappointed. the service was great, the food was amazing and we had a lot of fun. we dined upstairs, then went downstairs for the music. a great time!
Had reservation for downstairs and could not be more excited! Our server was profession but no too intrusive. Steak was flavor packed and the caeser salad was the best I have ever had. Thank you for the great anniversary!
Great food, great music! A perfect spot to meet with friends.
We decided to splurge on an expensive steak while in Kansas City, which is known for its great steaks. We were ushered into the basement speakeasy (where the jazz is played) but it was way too early for jazz. We ordered cocktails but our waiter brought our salads very soon after the cocktails were brought, and we wanted time first before we ordered wine and had our salads. As soon as we had finished our salads, the main course (steaks) arrived, but we still hadn't finished our cocktails. We felt very rushed--this is not how meals are sequenced in a good restaurant. Our steaks very absolutely not worth $43 each. One had a vein of that hard, white grizzle through it (which makes it called a "vein steak"), and fat and grizzle elsewhere, and it was very chewy, as in, chew for 3-4 minutes per bite. The other was a little better but still not up to the standards of a good steak. We complained and the waiter comped a glass of wine, but the entire steak should have been comped (or the entire meal). We were told that a substandard steak "slips through" once in a while. That's not an excuse for a high-end restaurant. We told the maitre 'd about it on the way out but all they did was apologize (and give us the "slips through" excuse). I could have had three good meals at Outback Steak for the price we paid for a subpar meal at this place. Very overpriced and quite underwhelming.
Excellent service and great food. I'll be back soon.
6 people ordered steak, only 1 received it the way they asked. Ordered appetizers that were never delivered. It smells like they allow smoking.
Enjoyed dinner here with my daughter before a concert at the Kauffman Performing Arts Center. We both enjoyed steak dinners and the chocolate cream pie for dessert. Attentive waitstaff and enjoyed the live piano music.
Great experience. The food was wonderful and wine list extensive. Our waiter Tyler was excellent!
Everything about this experience was wonderful. Food, atmosphere and waitstaff made for an exceptional Birthday dinner.
Great steaks cooked correctly, tasty salads and sides.
We took a friend for a belated birthday brunch. Everything was excellent as always.
Food and service were phenomenal but this was the first time we couldn't get a table in the jazz club downstairs since we starting eating there 3 years ago. We will always eat downstairs from now on. We love the music and atmosphere down there.
Clint, our server, was awesome! We enjoyed the music and the prices were reasonable.
My husband and I love dining here whenever we are in downtown KC. He always gets a filet and I had the salmon; both were excellent. Nice wine list and we were able to get a great Pinot for a reasonable price. We had a concert to attend at The Midland a few blocks away, or we would have lingered and had one of their yummy desserts. Great server and attentive staff. Highly recommend!
our waiter was incredible but the hostess that we interacted with could've been more personable. I told my husband we could go somewhere else because her attitude was really bad.
Server was very accommodating (provided a LOT of fruit instead of other sides), but steak was mediocre (I didn't order a "top of the line" strip, but did ask for it to be "seared with a crust" & medium rare and it was bland & medium well).
Jazz afterwards in club downstairs was incredibly good and relaxing.
We left full & happy. Great music.
This is an amazing little jewel in Downtown KC! They have a wonderful selection of steaks!
Our time at the Majestic was just that majestic. Amazing customer service and even better food. I would say the only problem was the seating arrangement. My seat was near a heavy traffic area and people consistently bumped my chair. Other than that it was great
As always, a great dinner with a good vibe. Love this spot.
Excellent food and service. Steaks were great. We would go again.
The food was unbelievable. I had the prime 12 oz. KC strip and my husband had the prime 12 oz. Ribeye. I am amazed at how flavorful both steaks were. Truly some of the best steaks I have ever had. I can’t wait to go back!
My husband and I were looking for a steakhouse at which to celebrate his birthday. I wanted to do something special and his only request was steak. I looked up the best steakhouses in KC and hit on The Majestic; we couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised! Our waiter was excellently informative and didn’t push the most expensive thing on the menu, but rather genuinely gave us his personal preferences as advice. We ate the best steaks we’ve ever had and then went down to listen to the live jazz band to enjoy the music after our fantastic meal. Love, love, loved The Majestic!
The atmosphere was excellent and the food was spot on! All of this and the jazz music topped off the evening! I have lived in the area my entire life and am sorry that it took me this long to experience this place! Top Marks indeed!
Really loved it there! The food was amazing and the service was great! Definitely a must for KC trips!! Noise level was perfect! I had a great evening!
It was nice. Good but, not worth the cost. Service was good not great.
We were seated in the jazz club for my husband's birthday dinner. While the music and ambiance was very enjoyable, the food was just acceptable and the service left a great deal to be desired. Our server was not friendly, seemed put out to even be attending to us and was absent much of the time, all of which put a damper on my husband's celebration. I was very disappointed and would not recommend The Majestic for dinner. However, I would recommend it to have a drink and enjoy the live jazz performances.
valentines day dinner that was amazing! service was excellent and the blues band was terrific! enjoyed it so much. it's worth the expense!
Outstanding. Food and service were just as expected. We have been here many times and never leave disappointed.
The Majestic continues to be perhaps the iconic independent Kansas City place for steak. The menu is more or less geared to the steak and potatoes crowd. The wine list is excellent. The setting is authentic, and you can here live jazz on the weekends in the basement (call for reservation in the jazz room at least a week in advance).
Our server Brandon was excellent and the food was exceptional. Very good service and food. Brandon was very good, please let him know that he does a great job.
Although the music was decent, this was not the venue I was hoping for. I was looking for history and charm. Instead, it felt like an old Steak and Ale. Wouldn’t go back.
In spite of a busy lunch crowd, food and service were top notch, as always. I was a little skeptical about the BBQ sauce served with the hanger steak, but it was a nice compliment rather than overpowering the excellent flavor of the beef. The jicama slaw is positively inspired!
We had a horrible experience there on Valentine's Day. Food was way overpriced, and we were packed in like sardines! I couldn't wait to get out of there.
We had the steaks my wife had the filet and I had the ribeye dry age for 32 days.
The steaks were some of the best I have had and would recommend that to everyone.
I had a couple of drinks and they were very good also.
The steaks we will remember and we will be going back.
The Majestic was a fantastic, cozy downtown spot for the best steak we've ever had and a great live jazz with the Matt Villinger Trio in the downstairs jazz club. Don't hesitate!
