The Majestic Restaurant
Everything was great. Want to hear live jazz while eating dinner.
Perfect for the lady and who love jazz and food
We tried Majestic for Brunch. The food was not up to their dinner standard, nor was the service. The egg on the Benedict was over cooked. All of the food did not make to the table at the same time. The Oyster Mushroom Benedict took 5 mins longer to get to the table then the Baked French Toast and Pumpkin pancakes. One of us requested Walnuts be left off of the Baked French Toast and it came to the table with Walnuts. That took almost 15 mins to replace.
Just not their typical food or service. Disappointed
Very good food. The setting is really old and historic. Have to get a table downstairs if you go.
We enjoyed the jazz area downstairs, but the food missed the mark. Prime rib was tough and chewy even at medium rare and my wife's pasta dish was basically overloaded with garlic with some mushrooms mixed in. You could smell the garlic across the table.
We love the atmosphere downstairs but the food consistently misses the mark for us, especially since they really talk up the aging process of the meat.
Specified jazz bar on my reservation, but was seated in the dining room. My prime rib was tough & chewy. My husband’s ribeye was fatty & tough. Our waiter was really good, but we were very disappointed with the overall experience for the price we paid. A total waste of time & money.
Been there several times. This time the Server and Manager were rude and condescending. At one point when I asked to move to a different table the Server said "do you understand how reservations work?". Steak was undercooked, Manager was argumentative and smug. It all started when I asked to move to a different table. There were 2 of us, I asked for a 4-top. The Server said "that's for 4 people". I pointed out 2 other 4-tops with 2 people at each and had to do that twice. In the end and not at my request they ended up comping a very expensive dinner. Generally if I get comped for anything I pay for my liquor and tip the Server at least half of what my bill would have been as usually it has nothing to do with the Server. This is the first time in over 17 years I walked out without tipping anyone except the bar tender upstairs. There Server made several other rude comments as well which just added to a very disappointing visit. I wrote the Owner to express my thanks for the compensation of my dinner though he had no idea but to also explain the situation to him. I have not heard back and do not expect too. However at the prices The Majestic charges I simply will refuse to give them my business in the future. I can get a steak anywhere. I go there for the ambience and the service. When the service isn't any good I move on. There are plenty of other places to eat dinner.
Steaks had good flavor but slightly over cooked.
Creamed spinach was extremely thick and reminded me of a spinach dip instead of a side dish
With reservation...not really impressed with our steaks, and definitely the steak soup was mediocre.
Our favorite restaurant ever! Great atmosphere in the Jazz Lounge.
Four of us went for dinner and live jazz. Everyone loved the food and the music. Service was perfect. Great time.
Overall enjoyable experience for lunch. Our server, James Barbie, took great care of us and was very knowledgable of the food offerings.
Good but better to be downstairs with music. When a conference is in town.......you should have music downstairs each night
If you want a cooked to order weekend brunch that is second to none, you will always win at The Majestic.
If you're a buffet person it's not for you. The food is served hot and prepared perfectly every time.
Really good biscuits and gravy :) definitly coming back
The food was delicious. Great ambiance.
Look, it's Kansas City. Let's be honest here. It's one of the weakest cities in America. Dull, boring, and VERY FEW decent restaurants. So you've found yourself in KC and you want a decent dining experience. Well, The Majestic is one of those very few decent restaurants.
What's my favorite 3 things about The Majestic? -
1. Sean the Bartender (and his amazing spirits selection).
2. Brandon the Server (the only person on the staff who should be making wine recommendations).
3. Live Jazz downstairs.
My main disappointment with this restaurant relates to the wine selection and inventory. They were out of stock of about half of their higher-end cab selections on the night we were there. If you're not going to invest in having your wine list fully available, then update your wine list to accurately reflect what you are currently stocking (and this out of stock issue was just a couple days prior to one of the largest corporate conventions that comes to KC, so it makes even less sense - it's okay to be out of stock after a busy local dining week, but there's no excuse for being heavily out of stock PRIOR to a busy dining week - that's just poor or lazy purchasing and planning). The other problem with their wine list is how incredibly young many of their high-end cabs were (2016 vintage) - and note that the wine list they have on their website is old and not up to date and shows falsely old vintages and selections - not good fellas - pretty dishonest/lazy/misleading. No decent restaurant (who knows what they are doing) has 3 different Nickel & Nickel cabs on their list and they are all 2016. That's a single-varietal (100%) Cabernet Sauv wine - it's a complete waste of money to serve or drink that type of product when it's younger than 5 or 6 years (even with decanting). C'mon guys, be brave enough to put those wines away until 2021-2024 and lay your hands on some 2010-2014 vintages to sell now. Who's ageing your cellar inventory for you?
I don’t normally write reviews. We were seated late but they made up for that by buying us an appetizer in the bar. Our food wasn’t that good. The waiter brought us the wrong entree. The salads greens were wet so the Caesar dressing was watered down. The baked potatoes tasted and had the consistency of yesterday’s leftovers simply reheated. Our steaks all the way around the table were way undercooked. They comped 1/2 $$ of one steak. Big whoop. Serve better food and charge me full price.
My wife and I were in Kansas City for a wedding and simply had to take in a meal at a local steakhouse. The Majestic was highly recommended and within walking distance of our hotel. We both had a great meal and enjoyed the setting. We didn't go downstairs to the jazz room, but found the whole experience appealing.
I've been to the Majestic several times and the quality of service, food, and entertainment are always impeccable. Our server was so kind and helpful. The food was absolutely amazing. The Bram trio was so entertaining and made for a wonderful evening with my husband and son. Thank you for keeping this KC tradition so alive!
This has been my "go to" restaurant for business entertainment for many years. It is not cheap but there is a value proposition!
Really disappointing. We were looking forward to having a great dinner and hearing some relaxing jazz. The lighting, for what is depicted as an intimate jazz dinner experience, created more of a cafeteria like experience. The food was terrible. The chicken and steak were dry and tough. Overall, not the experience we expected after reading all the great reviews.
We truly loved the environment of The Majestic. The waiter was very helpful and welcoming. The food was high priced, but perfect for the value. I was under impressed with the Wagyu steak but loved my wife's t-Bone. I am sure that I simply did not know what to expect from the Wagyu. We will be back the next time we are in Kansas City and I will order the t-bone for sure.
Loved the Ambiance with Live Jazz. Great cocktails and wine list to pair with AMAZING steaks!
Great service, excellent cocktails and food. Very accomodating
Excellent service, had a great time. Service is outstanding and the food is great
I loved the vibe of the jazz club. The service was excellent! The drinks and wine recommendation on point. The steaks were a huge disappointment. Out of 4 of us, 3 did not enjoy their steaks. My filet was good until half way through when the meat was so underdone I couldn't eat it. (I ordered medium. The end was rare.) My husband and friend ordered the special on the recommendation of the server. Touted as the top-of the-line, best-of-the-best, both disagreed. They said it was merely ok. The lady with us ordered the prime dry-aged rib eye and enjoyed it very much. The English toffee bread pudding was very good!
Also, it was noted in the reservation that both couple were celebrating wedding anniversaries, and it wasn't acknowledged.
wonderful music and a very helpful waiter plus excellent food made for a lovely evening. music was a volume at which you could still make yourself heard, but happily audience was there to enjoy the trio
As always, excellent! The best steak in KC! My only suggestion is that they bring back the chocolate cake they had prior to this one. This one has banana and is not near as tasty.
Great as always.
Good food and atmosphere.
Should the food great. A touch loud for me but my hearing is not that good.
The Jazz bar was great. The drink selection was superb for any whiskey or bourbon connoisseur, with quite a selection for other drinks as well. Definitely worth mentioning to friends!
My favorite place!!!
Too expensive for quality of product.
Please know that Brandon was awesome and so was the hostess and the piano player was fabulous
The food is incredible! Our server Brandon made our experience so fun! The staff members were all very friendly! Loved the atmosphere!! We will be back with some friends!
We really like the atmosphere and the service was great. The wine we picked out was superb as well. However, I was not very impressed by the food. I felt our steaks did not have much flavor and truthfully served closer to warm than fresh off the grill. I had the creamed spinach as a side and it was honestly the star of both of our dishes. For the price we paid, I would not eat here again but I would probably come here again for the atmosphere and drinks.
Also, we were here for a birthday and the reservation was made that way. I understand that there may not be a lot of communication with the servers and the hosts, but a mention of this would have been great at some point in the evening.
Great services and really good food. Definitely I recommend to other people.
Excellent food, service and music.
