The Majestic Restaurant
I really was looking forward to enjoying this place. However as we are getting ready to order, they informed us they were out of filets and it’s one of their specialties!!! How does a restaurant run out of the best cut of steak (at least in my opinion) by 7:30 on a Saturday evening. So we settled for a t-bone which was good, but just not the same. Now the jazz music was awesome and made up for the letdown on the steak. The twice baked potato was really good, but would have been better with the filet I was looking forward to. I’ll give it another shot at redeeming itself when I’m back on the KC area.
Amazing live jazz trio, off the scale food and service and the ambiance of the entire restaurant is fantastic!! We’ll be back and will highly recommend it to others!!
Fabulous as always.
Great service. Had the Ribeye special with scallops. Everything was perfectly done. Jazz trio was great but hard to talk over (knew it would be and enjoyed the music).
Out of town business guests enjoy this place as it captures the essence of old Kansas City with the Jazz and good beef. Service was fantastic. Not a cheap place, but the music is free, and worth $$$ on its own.
Loved the energy of the staff and the vibe of the downstairs jazz room
Outstanding service & a great menu full of delicious choices. Our party of 4 enjoyed different dishes, each one was beautifully presented & had amazing flavor. Definitely recommend!
Great food and waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and history of the restaurant.
Our favorite brunch, great as always! Beautiful, historic dining room, wonderful service and light piano music. We love the omelets and bellinis!
Jazz club was great. Steaks were also great with sides included.
We loved everything about the restaurant. The service was excellent. Arthur took great care of us. Food was delicious. We will definitely go back.
Absolutely amazing food service and ambiance ! We could not of ask for a better meal! This place is definitely one of a kind !
My husband and I are regular customers of The Majestic. The last several times we've been there have been disappointing. We made a reservation for Sunday brunch on 7/28, only to be told that there had been personal issues for employees so they were down to one server. In the meantime, they had seated patrons without reservations to where the hostess told us that we'd have to wait 15-20 minutes. A simple phone call to the number tied to the reservation would've avoided this situation, as we went ahead and left. Then, we made a reservation for Saturday brunch on 8/3 for 1:30, knowing they close at 2:30. We were told when we got there that they were closing up early at 2:00, so to keep that in mind if we wanted to go ahead and stay as we'd have to get in our order right away. Once again, a simple phone call alerting us would've been the best way to handle the situation when the restaurant is clearly in a bind. These are just two recent examples of when they've had staffing issues or other problems. The food is good and consistent, and our server on 8/3 was good but the host/hostess could do a better job at giving customers with reservations a phone call before they leave their home to come dine there when they know they're having issues.
Excellent atmosphere, excellent jazz, delicious food, attentive waiter.
The jazz group playing on our last visit one year ago was far superior to the group playing this time. I am really into live jazz so that disappointed me. Perhaps I ordered the wrong choice of food since we are currently trying to make healthier choices. My entrée(hanger steak without the sauce) and sides were boring. My husband loved his salmon. Hope to return. Love KC
Very good restaurant in the iconic KC building..The Fitzgerald. Our waiter Barbie was a top flight professional waiter even giving us the history of the building dating back to the last century. The food was very good with the only blemish the steaks which we ordered medium rare and came out very rare. That was remedied immediately to our satisfaction. The highlight was an amazing 2013 Mondavi Reserve 50th anniversary cabernet. This wine was priced very reasonably and worth every cent. Overall a very good experience.
You can't go wrong when you combine great service, outstanding food and live jazz. The bar serves a great drink (Cody is a very good mixologist). We enjoyed a fine meal of lamb chops, Crab cake and salad served by Tyler. The jazz trio was lively but not overwhelming. Very enjoyable. Unfortunately, this place is almost 500 miles from our home so we don't get there very often. Hint: Don't like Jazz? Eat upstairs, same food, service etc. just no music.
My salmon was raw and I sent it back and it came back the second time and it was raw again. My vegetables got cold and they did not send out new ones. Then a manager came and gave us a free desert and took my entree off the bill.
What he should have done is took off my spouses food because she tried to wait and her food was getting cold and then when my food came she was finished.
I still ended paying 60.00 for our drinks and her meal. The entire meal should have been taken care of my Majestic and I we should not have been asked what did we think should have been done.
I eat at the Majestic 3 times a month and listen to the Jazz group and I usually do not have to complain about the food but this time it was a total bust and they should have stepped up and took the price of both our meals off because it was not fair to either one of us.
Thank You for your attention to this.

What a lovely meal! And the jazz trio was fabulous. We didn't want to leave!
Perfect date night!
My wife and I had dinner here for our 20th wedding anniversary. She really liked the atmosphere and the food & drink. Be careful the barrel aged manhattans will taste too good. I advise not more than two. I had three and it was too much.
The steak I selected should have been one of the best pieces of meat I ever put in my mouth. It was decent at best.
I appreciate everything about The Majestic. Love the history of the building and how well it’s been preserved.
Wait staff is well informed, efficient & friendly.
Great wine list. Food is very good. Never been disappointed.
Have yet to go down stairs to listen to the music. Planning on doing that on next visit.
First time at the Majestic Steakhouse. The food was all great, and the jazz trio was outstanding. Will definitely be back again.
Steak was disappointing. Ordered the wagyu and it tougher than my little league baseball mitt. Very upsetting. Especially since it was our anniversary. Crab cake was bland and in dire need I some citrus element. Vegetables were over cooked. Other than that, the restaurant itself was lovely. Staff was great. Enjoyed the live piano jazz. Will definitely come back for drinks, but I’ll eat sandwich beforehand. I’d recommend the bar, but would advise friends to skip the food.
Collin was great! Food was amazing! We will definitely be back!
Our server, James Barbie, provided exceptional service & recommendations. The grilled halibut with buerre blanc poblano pepper sauce was just right.
The only reason the noise level was moderate was because we were in the Jazz Bar. It had to be moderate! But it was very enjoyable. We were traveling so will probably never entertain such a visit again, but will certainly recommend to other travelers. Thank you, Majestic!
The reviews were great so I had high expectations, but the service was slow, the coffee was HORRIBLE, and the food was bad. The restaurant also didn’t feel or appear very clean. Would not recommend.
Our recent meal at Majestic was not as good as previous experiences.
My husband I both rated it below par with this visit.
Great food, good service and great Jazz. Perfect place for an evening.
Very inviting, especially for an upscale restaurant in a historic building. Our waiter did a wonderful job, and the food was excellent!
Went for a birthday party celebration. The steaks and deserts were great; well cooked. Salads were basic. The bread was not very tasty; first portion came out cold.
Server was engaging and made for a pleasant experience.
Great!!!! Food, music, service all top. Love the Jazz Club!
Excellent food! Great live Jazz band. Basement level is excellent for special occasions and date night.
Great steak, almost melts in you mouth. Waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. Live Jazz was a bonus. Would definitely suggest this restaurant to steak lovers.
Great Great time taking my three sons out for a GUYS evening. Food was fantastic, service impeccable, and ambiance was great! Pricey but worth every penny!!
Love this place, only complaint was the doneness of the steak. Asked for medium rare and it came out very rare so they brought it back and it was still very rare the next time so had to sent it back once more
Excellent ambience in an historic place, plus we really enjoyed the piano music.
For as many times as we have been to The Majestic, I have to admit this was the most disappointing experience. We loved our time at the bar visiting with the bartender about bourbon, scotch, and whiskey; but when we were seated at in the jazz room for dinner - the steaks were marginal at best. That has never happened at the Majestic. My wife ordered her steak rare - it was medium and had lots of gristle, my 32 day dry aged ribeye was full of gristle which makes me wonder if it was truly dry-aged, our friend's wife had a steak that didn't look cooked and she ordered her steak medium, and her husband's steak was just like mine - full of gristle. The sides were fine, baked potatoes, asparagus, the usual steak house fare. We had dessert as well - the crème brûlée and bread pudding. The bread pudding was overcooked and crusty on the bottom. Not tasty at all. It's had to screw up crème brûlée so it was fine. On the positive side, the service was excellent - always ask for Brandon. So, the bartender was great as was the waitstaff, which is why they received 5 stars. One final thing, I'm not sure but they may consider updating the jazz band. They are getting a little stale, maybe a vocalist, but something different than it has been for the past 3 years, just a thought.
We loved everything about our dinner. We weren’t rushed and could enjoy the ambiance. Definitely on our return list!
