The Majestic Restaurant
Steak was disappointing. Ordered the wagyu and it tougher than my little league baseball mitt. Very upsetting. Especially since it was our anniversary. Crab cake was bland and in dire need I some citrus element. Vegetables were over cooked. Other than that, the restaurant itself was lovely. Staff was great. Enjoyed the live piano jazz. Will definitely come back for drinks, but I’ll eat sandwich beforehand. I’d recommend the bar, but would advise friends to skip the food.
Collin was great! Food was amazing! We will definitely be back!
Our server, James Barbie, provided exceptional service & recommendations. The grilled halibut with buerre blanc poblano pepper sauce was just right.
The only reason the noise level was moderate was because we were in the Jazz Bar. It had to be moderate! But it was very enjoyable. We were traveling so will probably never entertain such a visit again, but will certainly recommend to other travelers. Thank you, Majestic!
The reviews were great so I had high expectations, but the service was slow, the coffee was HORRIBLE, and the food was bad. The restaurant also didn’t feel or appear very clean. Would not recommend.
Our recent meal at Majestic was not as good as previous experiences.
My husband I both rated it below par with this visit.
Great food, good service and great Jazz. Perfect place for an evening.
Very inviting, especially for an upscale restaurant in a historic building. Our waiter did a wonderful job, and the food was excellent!
Went for a birthday party celebration. The steaks and deserts were great; well cooked. Salads were basic. The bread was not very tasty; first portion came out cold.
Server was engaging and made for a pleasant experience.
Great!!!! Food, music, service all top. Love the Jazz Club!
Excellent food! Great live Jazz band. Basement level is excellent for special occasions and date night.
Great steak, almost melts in you mouth. Waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. Live Jazz was a bonus. Would definitely suggest this restaurant to steak lovers.
Great Great time taking my three sons out for a GUYS evening. Food was fantastic, service impeccable, and ambiance was great! Pricey but worth every penny!!
Love this place, only complaint was the doneness of the steak. Asked for medium rare and it came out very rare so they brought it back and it was still very rare the next time so had to sent it back once more
Excellent ambience in an historic place, plus we really enjoyed the piano music.
For as many times as we have been to The Majestic, I have to admit this was the most disappointing experience. We loved our time at the bar visiting with the bartender about bourbon, scotch, and whiskey; but when we were seated at in the jazz room for dinner - the steaks were marginal at best. That has never happened at the Majestic. My wife ordered her steak rare - it was medium and had lots of gristle, my 32 day dry aged ribeye was full of gristle which makes me wonder if it was truly dry-aged, our friend's wife had a steak that didn't look cooked and she ordered her steak medium, and her husband's steak was just like mine - full of gristle. The sides were fine, baked potatoes, asparagus, the usual steak house fare. We had dessert as well - the crème brûlée and bread pudding. The bread pudding was overcooked and crusty on the bottom. Not tasty at all. It's had to screw up crème brûlée so it was fine. On the positive side, the service was excellent - always ask for Brandon. So, the bartender was great as was the waitstaff, which is why they received 5 stars. One final thing, I'm not sure but they may consider updating the jazz band. They are getting a little stale, maybe a vocalist, but something different than it has been for the past 3 years, just a thought.
We loved everything about our dinner. We weren’t rushed and could enjoy the ambiance. Definitely on our return list!
The food, ambience, and service at the Majestic is incredible! Plus the historical building just adds to it all to make a memorable evening.
Server was top notch other than over charging us. It was too loud to question the check and I didn't want to make a scene by trying to explain loudly.
The best part of the whole meal was the Mac and Cheese so that was a right spot. Ribeye Steak was supposed to be aged but tasted like something bought from Walmart grocery. Very limited on flavor and a bit tough. In fact I have made better at home! The table where we sat was too small we were constantly having to shuffle items around to be comfortable. The musicians were great but was too loud to have meaningful conversation at dinner. The hostess would have done well to warn us. But then again she was not terribly friendly and definitely not attentive to what our needs might be. Had anyone bothered to ask about our experience I would have gladly and respectfully shared our experience, unfortunately no one asked. Oh and The pork chop was so dry that if it had not been covered in the dried cherry glaze it would not have been edible. The price of the meal did not match the quality. Will not go back, there are too many other good options in KC.
Not inexpensive but superb food, service and atmosphere.
Great food and atmosphere. We are in the lower level where a live jazz band was playing fabulous music. We had a table for four. The table was a bit small (the plates and glasses were competing for space) but the service was outstanding! Brandon, the waiter, was polite, knowledgeable and extremely attentive.
If in KC, I highly recommend The Majestic.
Parking is a problem. Fodd very good. Lots of history in building. Good story
Wonderful food, great service and music in the background
Food, service and ambiance at this Kansas City gem are all top notch...especially the well crafted cocktails. Don't miss the live jazz playing downstairs as well.
Another great meal.
Majestic is consistently a four or five all around. My server is first rate and has worked there for years. The food is consistently fiver star quality as are the cocktails. My favorite downtown haunt and second only to JJ's on the plaza. Great tradition, great food, and great service.
I would recommend anyone to go there, I would just tell them to stay away from the Waygu cuts of meat. It was cooked to perfection but my date had the majestic filet and that was better and half the cost. The food was excellent but for the price of the ribeye I would have expected better. It’s cramped and noisy but I did enjoy it. Everything tasted great and as I stated earlier the cook on the meat was perfect. I wouldn’t go back but I’m glad I went.
We enjoyed our dinner, I typically have filet and I ordered Aged Ribeye. It was outstanding!! Highly recommend if you dine there.
Great wait-staff, music and food.
We usually sit upstairs, but this time we were downstairs. Much quieter and easier to carry on a conversation during dinner (6:00 to 7:00).
We enjoyed our early dinner. We were going to the “Hamilton” presentation at the Music Hall and Thor fine meal gave our fun evening a great start. Our server did a good job making our meal comfortable
The Majestic is a great place ... we are planning to go back for the jazz too. Our service (thank you, Gary) was wonderful. Very few places you can go and order a steak and have it cooked properly..... they did. Yes, I would recommend.
Normally I find this to be the go to spot to celebrate lifes victories. Unfortunately it's been a minute since I've been here. My reservations were for downstairs and when I got there I was told they weren't Nd was carted off to an upstairs table. And then told maybe for dessert I could go downstairs if a table became available.
The service was excellent. The food was tasteless and not remotely cooked properly. Even my server (who was great) was disgusted that my steak looked like it was just shot and thrown on a plate.
It was given back to them and they cooked it longer and brought it back to me with the old (and now cold) sides. I lost my appetite.
Being a stubborn Irishman, I pushed and got downstairs. My lovely lady and I enjoyed the music and excellent desert. Maybe we should've just come for that.
My soul hurts. I have come here all my life. This is the first time I've ever had to ask a steak to be redone. The only time I've ever had an issue. Its disheartening.
I love this place and hope it turns around.
After all these years in KC, this was our first time dining at the restaurant and we were so looking forward to a good steak dinner. However, we must have caught them on an off night. The food was extremely slow in arriving and was not up to our standards. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer and the shrimp was overcooked and dry. My daughter ordered prime rib and when it finally arrived it was cold and no flavor. I ordered the ribeye and it was extremely dry like leather and no flavor. But my husband ordered filet mignon and it was perfect. Juicy and flavorful. Our waiter tried to make it right by getting my daughter and I another complete dinner with new steaks, but by then I was full. So we took those dinners home. The meal was extremely expensive for the outcome. So, it's a "maybe" I'll try again.
Phenomenal dinner at the majestic. We were immediately greeted by friendly hosts, we had a reservation and were taken to our seat. The restaurant was classy and full of character. The food was absolutely delicious. Every ingredient was purposeful and delicious. Our waiter was
Personable, helpful, and funny. The restaurant delivered in every aspect. Treat yourself to a wonderful meal here. You won’t regret it.
Wanted a Kansas City steak house experience in our travels and were pleased we chose the Majestic. Turned out a bit pricey but worth it for the overall experience.
Food was overpriced. Order steak medium rare, and received an extremely rare steak. The same thing happened to the table next to us.
The restaurant was awesome, however, Open Table failed to pass on to the restaurant that we wanted to be seated in the downstairs Jazz area and not in the regular restaurant. Good thing that I called the restaurant ahead of time and checked to see where our table was booked.
Fantastic 36th Anniversary @ The Majestic!
Gary was amazing for our dinner service, then we walked downstairs to the jazz club. We sat at the bar and chatted with Cody the bar tender and listened to Joe tell the history of all the drinks. We listened to some amazing jazz music and the music wasn’t too loud so you could still have a conversation. We will definitely be back again!
