We arrived at 5:30 pm on a Sunday night, it was quiet and seating only in the front of the area. Crispy duck was not crispy making good and not outstanding. The lamb was outstanding. Hand Crafted cocktail lived up to its presentation. Recommend the location and ease of access while in Freeport. Did not like music, it was smooth jazz when we arrived and changed to Country Western during appetizer, it was not loud and quiet conversation could ensue. The Inn is a fine place to stay and eat while in Freeport. Within the building is the Tavern, that serves good food as well. It is a bit more louder in ambiance.
Decided to go here after reading the other reviews from OpenTable. We decided to do a trip up to Freeport for the first time and this was one of the recommended hotspots. This definitely did not disappoint and the overall experience was great.
The restaurants is part of the larger historical hotel and it has a charm and class to it that was appealing to us. The apps that we order turned out well and the service was appreciated.
For example, we asked for two glasses of wine that the waitress let us taste quickly before pouring out the glasses. My wife actually did not like the taste and the waitress did not hesitate to allow us to choose another wine without any embarrassment. That was very much appreciated and in the end the whole evening was great.
The next time we head back up to Freeport, this will definitely be one of our spots to go back to.
If you are looking for an old world New England fine dining spot, this is it. Lovely historic inn that offers both lodging, fine dining and a tavern. My husband loved his salmon and my halibut was delicious, especially the lobster mashed potatoes! I also really enjoyed the fresh fig and beet salad, not something you see very often in combination.
This was our second visit to the The Maine Harvest@ The Harraseeket Inn and I am sure there will be more. The brunch offers a variety of tasty dishes arranged in an attractive display. The star of this spread is a mountain boiled Maine lobster with melted butter on the side and there is no limit. In addition to lobster there are an interesting variety of salads, cheeses, fresh fruit and breads. There also breakfast foods, pasta and hot vegetable dishes. There is also a carving stand where delicious prime rib is served. If you have room there is a tempting assortment assortment of desserts including a made to order crepes station.
The hotel and the dining room are very attractive and service is very friendly and efficient. There is a full liquor service available. The quality of the brunch indicates that the other meals will be good as well. The Maine Harvest Brunch will make a good addition to a shopping tour of Freeport's outlets.
If you are in Freeport shopping I would recommend you drive to Portland for dinner but if the weather is bad or you are tired I would recommend the tavern at the hotel. The dining room has a nice atmosphere but the food although nicely presented on the menu, simply fails to live up to expectations. The Lobster crepes are so awash in sauce and mushrooms that you really can't taste whether there is lobster or not. The duck was a good choice but again very simply done and the accompanying rice was awash in butter. We also had breakfast which was even more disappointing. Again, the tavern is a better dining choice if ou are at the hotel.
Our dinner was simply great for the welcoming staff. Carlos our waiter was attentive and not overbearing. The food starting with the potato leek soup was very good. The presentation of the grilled scallops was so good. A great place to dine in Freeport Maine
This brunch was fantastic. They had everything you could want from lobster to fancy desserts and everything in between. Service was excellent from Stephanie, our server. The ambiance was nice with dining in one room and food in another. Noise level was minimal. This is a fancy brunch...so plan to stay for at least an hour or more. So much to eat...and nicely displayed. Loved it.....
We were staying at the Inn, so we thought we'd check out the dining room for dinner. We'd been on the road since 5:00 am, so we were ready for a nice dinner. Firstly, reviews had listed this as Freeport's only fine dining establishment. We expected white tablecloths , candles, beautiful furniture. We encountered burlap covered tables with worn colonial furniture, low ceilings with cheap acoustical tiles. That being said, they have a nice menu. We ordered a $30 seafood sampler and were underwhelmed. The crab meat tasted metallic, though the lumps of lobster were good as were the oysters. We just thought it was overpriced. My lamb chops were flavorful , my husband's Black Sea bass excellent, even though the accompanying polenta was not heated through. Wine list weak. Server, Jessica, however was outstanding. If I went back to Freeport, I wouldn't go back. Expensive, somewhat ordinary.
We went for the first time and would definitely return. The calamari appetizer was delicious as was the lobster stew. One of us had the duck which was excellent and we had the homemade pasta with lobster which was stellar. We were too full to try the desserts but next time we will split an appetizer so we have room for dessert.
The restaurant is very intimate with excellent ambience. The service is very attentive. The tables are not crowded nest to each other so you can enjoy a private conversation. The seafood was outstanding, We started with the Lobster stew which was terrific. My wife had the lobster which was terrific and I had the lobster in a wine sauce with pasta which was unbelievable. The dessert of blueberry pie with ice cream was the best I ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant. By the way my wife is gluten free and there were plenty of choices for her.
Was not sure what to expect, and we were absolutely delighted with this restaurant. Will definitely return. Lovely setting; excellent experience. Food was terrific, as was service. Tried variety of items from salad, entrée, and dessert portions of menu, and not one was disappointing. One of the people in our group just returned from trips to NYC and San Francisco; she said that her meal was better than any she had in either of those cities.
Atmosphere just ok, not all that cozy or warm. Our server did a nice job...friendly, attentive for the most part. They seemed a little understaffed, and waits between service were a bit long at times. Food was very good...a solid 8. Just not amazing, at least not the dish my wife and I had. Overall, still a nice place for dinner.
Simply looking at the lovely, beautifully appointed old dining room made me expect a lot. We sat by the fire and were not disappointed. - Farm and ocean fresh food, carefully prepared and consequently delicious. The scallop starter and asparagus salad were particularly good. The wait-staff could not have been more welcoming or professional. Hats off to this wonderful place!
We found this to be one of the better restaurants in Freeport. It is a tourist town because of the outlet shopping, but The Harraseeket Inn was an exception. We had the steamed lobster( lazy ) and it was wonderful! Service is excellent, and the setting is lovely.
Enjoyed our evening at The Maine Harvest. Service was outstanding, both the hostess and waitress. Beautiful space. Food was excellent. I had the mushroom quartet - very nice, the corn chowder and the scallops. All well-prepared. Reasonable wine list. Yummy blueberry pie for dessert!
I had the asparagus salad and my husband had corn bisque to start. We both enjoyed them. We split the chateaubriand and it was very good. Nice table side presentation and plenty of food . A bit pricey but unpretentious. We save this place for special occasions but always go back
Had a recent dinner reservation on a Friday night in the Maine Dining room. We were seated in the far dining room with about 3 other tables. Server came over and was ready to take our dinner order, without offering drinks. Food was good but server had absolutely no personality whatsoever. Maybe she was new and just not properly trained. The restaurant was not particularly busy and there were 3 servers on. The other servers were much more friendly and engaging, not just there to drop off the dishes on the table. The morning buffet breakfast was good, but very noisy with much loud ordering about of the staff by the hostess....Just our impression.
While we had friendly service, we wouldn't return because the food was poorly prepared. This was especially surprising because we were there on a Sunday night and there were only six other tables, so there was no pressure at all on the kitchen. I think our entrees must have sat under a heat lamp or something because we took our time with the appetizers. My filet, which I ordered medium rare, was served medium well, and the kale and potatoes were cold. My partner's gnocchi was overwhelmed with pine nuts and burned on the bottom. The waitperson was very apologetic and accommodating, replacing my overcooked filet with a properly cooked one and comping us a dessert and espressos, but there really should be no mistakes given the prices.
My wife and I came to the Maine Harvest to celebrate our anniversary. We had a wonderful meal and our wait person, Carlos, was outstanding and full of information. He helped us choose a bottle of wine and he recommended Treana red wine from Paso Robles. We had never heard of it before but true to his word, it was excellent. We started by sharing a Caesar Salad that was cold and crisp with excellent dressing. My wife ordered the simple steamed lobster and I ordered the fillet mignon, medium rare. The meat was done to perfection and her lobster was excellent. The garlic infused mashed potatoes were very tasty. For desert we had strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream. The crust was like a pastry. Service was unhurried. Highly recommended!
Our visit to The Maine Harvest was very good. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was just what we hoped for. The staff was very attentive to the reason for our visit, which was to celebrate my wife's birthday. Very enjoyable and looking forward to another visit.
We had not been to Maine Harvest in a while. We were very pleased with the choices and the food was very, very good. We shared shrimp coctails and then had the Filet special. Everythng is very fresh and locally sourced and you can taste it. They accomodated dietary requests easily. Our waiter could have been more attentive and a tad friendlier but otherwise a nice dinner in a nice location.
We (2 couples) had a lovely, leisurely, meal at a table by the fire on a quiet Sunday evening. Service was superb. Food was very good. We all enjoyed our entrees and the bananas foster prepared table side. Love the fact that they use local meats and produce.
We had a gathering of family and friends at the Harraseeket's Maine Harvest Dining Room this past weekend and couldn't have been more pleased. Our waiter, Carlos, was excellent and very knowledgeable about both wine and food. He was attentive but not intrusive and made several excellent menu suggestions. Try the Spiced Lamb Surf and Turf with lamb tenderloin and jumbo Maine scallops, it was fabulous. Bananas Foster for dessert...prepared tableside...just the perfect ending to a perfect meal!
We always try to go to the Maine Dining Room in February when they offer their special "game menu" but had not been for a few years. Delighted to say that it was as good, if not better, than ever. Our party tried the Elk Osso Bucco; Cornish Game Hen; and Pheasant Pot Pie - all delicious. Fantastic desserts as well. Highly recommend.
What a wonderful dining experience! We first had drinks in the charming Drawing Room and then we're shown to our table by the fireplace. We had excellent service and an outstanding meal. I LOVE scallops and have never had larger, sweeter, more perfectly prepared than this evening! Wish we lived closer......
