Had NY steak, sea bass, and chicken. Steak was tough and flavorless. Sea bass pairing vegetables were almost inedible. Chicken was good. Do not recommend.

Hadn't been here in a while so we thought we would try it out again. The service was very slow and the restaurant was not very busy. Waiter not very attentive had to try and get his attention as he walked by. The salads were delicious and the steaks were pretty good. The bar was slow for alcoholic beverages as well. Dessert was unimaginative and plain. Won't go back. There are many other restaurants in Durango that have better food, service and prices.

I thought the prices were too high since the last time we've eaten there. No bread was served with the meal, you had to pay extra. They used to do a fun, little secret drink when you came in. I miss that. Food is always great.

Fantastic Thanksgiving buffet! Always great food, wines, service and atmosphere. And that level of excellence carried through for the Mahogany Grill’s Thanksgiving buffet. A wonderful range of foods, all freshly prepared and replenished in a timely manner. The Mahogany Grill is a special Durango experience not to be missed.

We were there for the Thanksgiving buffet. It was delicious. There were many entrees to choose from and all were prepared to perfection. It was pricey at $39 per person plus drinks but for a special occasion it was worth it!

Ambiance was great However were very disappointed in our meals. Our steaks were rare when we ordered medium well. My husband sent his back and upon return it was still rare. Manager did remove it from our bill but it really spoiled the evening. Not a good place to order steak, very pricy! The service was average. We will probably return when visiting the area again in hopes of improvement.

We had dinner at Mahogany and first enjoyed the quiet elegant charm of the historic building. I ordered the trout with polenta and tomato and it was fabulous. My husband had a salad with grilled chicken and it was perfectly fresh and tasty. Both of us ate every bite but couldn't fit in a dessert. We liked everything about the meal and will love to go back.

We were late due to a train engine problem on the Silverton to Durango train and this wonderful restaurant was very accommodating and understanding. Excellent service. Wonderful, friendly service. Great food. Beautiful dining room and hotel. We had heard about the Banana's Foster served table side. Our favorite. They had a wedding party going on and were busy but our server provided this treat after getting permission from the manager. She went out of her way to make us happy and it was so good and appreciated. Thank you!

We have eaten at Mahogany several times and the food is always good. Unfortunately the service this time was well below par. Our server was very nice, but somewhat inexperienced and totally overwhelmed by having to take care of too many tables.

My husband and I visit Durango once a year over Labor Day weekend, and have always eaten at The Mahogany Grille, Unfortunately, we keep forgetting why we should by pass this restaurant. It's almost always a hit and miss. This time however will unfortunately be our last. We waited forever for our soup and salad ( at least 30 minutes). As we were sitting there we noticed a table sending back their steak because it was too raw. Upon receiving our dinner ( My husband had the trout which was the "hit" ) my dinner special which was two separate filets, and unfortunately both more raw than med/raw . I ate one which was cooked a little more than the other, but couldn't even cut through the raw one and didn't want to saw myself a piece. As we sat there another table who had shown up shortly after us, barely got their food, and the very unhappy woman sent her steak back as well... being too raw. Our waiter, and the manager were having quite the time, trying to make up for the raw loving cook. The hotel is wonderful and full of history, the decor is fabulous, and again, our waiter was okay, but the wait time, and then the hit and miss is just not worth our precious few while we are in Durango.

The food was exceptional, and the setting was appropriate for the area, (Old West). The only negative was the unnecessary delay in bringing out dessert because the dinner crowd had thinned out substantially by that time.

The service was amazing. Our waiter knew all there was to know about the features and was very professional. The entire staff was helpful and attended to all needs (we are a high maintenance group of people at restaurants..) Would recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Thanks for a great birthday evening Mahogany Grille.

Friendly service, the waiter seemed to remember guests who had not visited for many months (it was our first time there). Drinks and food were great - unique pepper steak (not to be confused with steak au poivre!) was tender and perfectly cooked. Make sure you are seated in the main dining room - as I saw other parties seated in many areas (including hallways leading to the hotel lobby) that I would not have enjoyed!

Our dinner was a comedy of errors. I do not believe this establishment can handle the volume of the summer tourist season. The menu is way over priced for the level of service that is provided. You will experience better service at the walk up counter at Serious Texas BBQ.

To be fair, this was Saturday night and the town and Strater Hotel were full. But we were staying at the Strater, passing through for the night, and the desk clerk assured us that we would have no difficulty getting a table for two. Tried calling for a reservation from the hotel phone and got only a recording asking us to leave name and phone number "and we will get right back to you." An hour later, no response. Tried Yelp and was given the phone number (not the extension on the hotel phone) and got the same recording. Called the front desk and was told they would go to the restaurant (part of the hotel) and have them call us. Fifteen minutes pass and no call. Tried OpenTable and got an immediate reservation. Arrived and was seated immediately. Noise level so high normal conversation impossible. Waiter takes our drink and entree orders and says he will be right back with our drinks (2 proseccos). Half an hour passes, no drinks, no food. At 45 minutes, food is delivered by a different person. When told we hadn't received our drinks she comes with them in less than a minute with "I found them." By now the place is half empty and the noise level lowered accordingly. Food was passable (special fish of the day: seabass) but ordinary. (My wife's comment: It seemed like half the wait staff stood around chatting while the others ran around doing needed chores). Parting comment: restaurant needs new management but OpenTable is great.

Shrimp in pasta dish were overcooked, pasta appeared fresh but was under cooked. . Shouldn't be a $2.00 charge for sharing a salad. Tonic water was not good quality. Very nice decor. Special theater dinner should be available for all early diners.

The setting is perfectly late 19th century including gorgeous old furniture and floor to ceiling decor (especially the ceiling!) The staff is excellent from greeting to seating; explanation of the menu items made you want several of them. We never had to ask for additional bread, wine, or accompaniments... the waiters asked first. Food was prepared as described and very delicious.

We have been here several times, and the food and service have always been excellent (with one exception but that was years ago). Two of us had the filet Oscar, one had the Pepper Steak Herbert, and one had the chicken. This was a Big 7-0 birthday for a friend and all four of us were very pleased with our dinners. Tory was our server and she was great.

We expected to have a really nice dinner, as prices at this restaurant are higher than most in the area, and the menu is very interesting. However, the chef was off (it was Sunday, Father's Day), and the kitchen crew apparently wasn't trained enough to provide food as described in the menu. We waited nearly 75 minutes for our meals to arrive. One diner's beef tenderloin was served lukewarm, returned to the kitchen and was replaced with a gristly piece, albeit hot. Another diner's "t-bone" steak was an unknown cut (no bone present) and served with the stems of wild mushrooms that still had their root-like bases attached. The stems were about 4 inches long and as thick as a man's thumb, very unappealing. A third diner's chicken was supposed to be served with champagne grapes and rose hips. Neither was in the sauce; instead red grapes cut in half were present. A huge pile of "golden" mashed potatoes lurked under the chicken, white as snow, barely warm, and odd-tasting (perhaps spoiled). The bartender couldn't make a decent Arnold Palmer to save his life, and so another member of our group asked for ice, tea, and lemonade to mix herself. All in all, totally disappointing. We will not return.

We had a great time at the Mahogony Grill. The restaurant decor is very attractive and we had nice booth seating. The service was excellent. The restaurant features local meats and fish. We ordered the trout entree and were very pleased with the choice. Generous portions and attractively presented. We definitely will return to this restaurant when Next we visit Durango.

This is one of our top three restaurants in Durango. We dined there several weeks ago with another couple and the food and service was wonderful. I even made note of our waiter and sent a note about him to the restaurant. We took guests there this time and it was like a different place. Lousy service and lousy (ok, so-so) food. I was embarrassed that I took guests there and very disspointed. I hate writing a bad review, especially when we have had so many great meals there. Things were way off from when we were there just a few weeks before.
