About Permanently Closed - The Mad Platter

This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - The Mad Platter Restaurant, located minutes from downtown in Historic Germantown, offers daily changing menus and an award-winning wine list. An example of our dishes include: filet of beef tenderloin cracked black pepper crusted and topped with stilton and red wine gastrique, sautéed shrimp and grits, and the mad platter rack of lamb marinated, seared, and slow-roasted to order.
Owners Craig and Marcia Jervis met in 1984 while catering the Jackson Victory Tour, fell in love and have been cooking together, literally, ever since. In 1989, after five years of catering, they opened The Mad Platter Restaurant.
Voted Nashville's Best Special Occasion Dining and Most Romantic Dining, by Citysearch in 2006, Mad Platter also received 2007 Citysearch's award for Best Caterer and The Nashville Scene's award for Best Date Spot.

This establishment is closing after many years. This was our goodbye dinner. I miss an elegant, not too trendy, reliable food eatery. This filled a needed function. Enjoy it before it's gone. I will miss it.

This was my final of many visits at lunchtime to the Mad Platter because, unfortunately, the restaurant is closing permanently in less than two weeks. The food was fresh and tasty as always and the restaurant was very busy, which probably accounts for the slow service in refilling my iced tea. I'm sorry to see the Mad Platter closing.

Sadly, we enjoyed our last meal at The Mad Platter this week which will be closing with the close of business New Years night. The Mad Platter has been a staple of our dining over the years, consistently serving inventive and satisfying fare. Our last dinner was no exception.
Our table shared the beet salad which was refreshingly dressed. My duck breast entree was served with mushroom ravioli - the duck slices were ample and perfectly cooked - as an extra bonus, the skin was light and crunchy. My wife had the risotto and I sampled heartily. It was warm, fluffy and satisfying. For dessert, the table shared the current version of chocolate creme brule topped with singed marshmallow creme. If you are going to go out - go out at a high level. Mad Platter goes out in the stratosphere. Congratulations Marcia and Craig and bon vivant in the years to come.

It's such a shame that this restaurant is leaving us! I haven't lived in Germantown very long, but heard all about the Mad Platter - and it lived up to everything I've heard about it. Great food, love the ambience - wonderful, wonderful experience.

Lovely atmosphere, and great food, and at reasonable prices. We went Friday 12-9 on a cold evening, and especially liked the fact that the restaurant was decorated nicely for Christmas, and was nice and warm! Our waitress was excellent, and the food was too. Too bad that they will be closing at the end of this year. :-{

We've been fans of the Mad Platter for over 25 years, and were saddened to hear it's closing soon. We just had to have one last nice meal at one of our favorite places. Service was attentive but leisurely, and that's OK. It gave us time to reminisce.

My first time dining at The Mad Platter was a charming success. Decorated for Christmas, it was a quiet, tasty retreat at the tail end of an exhausting Thanksgiving. The service was flawless and the food was delicious. The shrimp and grits and mushroom risotto were tasty, but needed a little oomph. The pinot noir was a little too sharp for comfort, but the shiraz was just right. It is in a quiet, lovely neighborhood and was the perfect break from the frenetic Nashville nightlife. Being hard of hearing, it was a great place for conversation.

The food was very good. Small but nice wine selection. Just one glitch, I ordered a salad that I never received :( I came looking forward the the mussels that were on the online menu only to find out they didn't have them. Great atmosphere for dates or groups of friends. Wouldn't recommend for children.

The experience was pleasant overall. However, when we arrived, we stood at the door for at least 5 minutes without being greeted. There were two other customers ahead of us at the door but no one was seated in the restaurant. There were employees working behind the bar area but no one seemed to think it was important to greet us. It would've been nice had they at least let us know if they were completing their setup or....give us some idea of how long we were supposed to stand there. Just some acknowledgement that we were that would've been nice. Otherwise, the food was really pleasant and the service and ambiance were very nice. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Loved the quaint feeling & decor. Parking is a real problem around Germantown & here is no different. Hostess was wonderful on phone. Table service was average, nothing spectacular, but she was sweet. Food was good & satisfying but nothing really stands out other than the lamb shank was impressive. My potatoes & asparagus were cool and strip steak over cooked slightly. I will go back.

The evening was absolutely wonderful. I haven't been in such a long time...use to work in Metro Center and ate there all the time. Decided it was time to try it again for my daughters Birthday and she loved it. The Duck and pumpkin ravioli were the big hits of the night but everything was delicious. All of us can't wait to go back.

We took new friends from church to get better acquainted with them and introduce them to brunch at The Mad Platter. We had reservations and arrived a little early but were able to be seated just after our arrival. The atmosphere was a little noisier than we had anticipated from past experience, but it was not really a problem. Our server was prompt and friendly. The food was very good -- chicken salad plate, quesadilla, and French toast (though the French toast wasn't as special as remembered from the past -- thought it had been stuffed, but this was plain). All our plates were clean, so everything was very good.

Had lunch with vegetarian friend & we both really enjoyed our meals. I loved my crab cake entrée, but found it on the small side and really could have eaten more. Server was friendly, prompt and attentive. Atmosphere is so relaxing and I always love getting a window seat for people watching. I return to Mad Platter again and again for fresh and tasty fare!

I first dinned at Mad Platter almost 20 years ago. I loved this place then. I love it now. Simply put there is no other place quite like it. Set in a 100 year old building in old Germantown, it holds onto that old world feel while yielding an elegant, modern touch from the interior treatments.

The staff is friendly, accommodating, and attentive without being obtrusive.

As in all really good restaurants, the food is front and center. It is just very, very good with a creative flair. Much like the restaurant as a whole, the food was executed to perfection. I will not go into the details. I will say I have dined at most of the better eateries in Nashville. Mad Platter is up there. When I consider its eclectic and elegant flavor both in atmosphere and in food, nothing else is Nashville is quite like it. I dine all over Nashville. But I always enjoy coming home to Mad Platter.

We visited Nashville and visited Mad Platter based on Open Table reviews. We enjoyed this restaurant very much - quite unique, great food, interesting menu, very accommodating for my gluten free needs, friendly wait staff, efficient service and yet we could linger after as well. We loved the fresh food approach and would return when back in the Nashville area. The historic Germantown location was intriguing too.
