Pricey for what you get. Lamb and deckle were flavorful but chewy.
Nice people...great service and they really took an interest in us...asked what we liked to eat and recommended items. My wife and I split the bone-in strip steak, served with greens and mashed potatoes. Possibly the best strip steak I have ever had. They treated us to dessert to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Wish you would open a restaurant in Greenville or Travelers Rest, SC! Thanks!
We went for Sunday brunch. The chicken from the chicken and waffles was so heavily breaded, it needed to be scraped off. The steak from steak and eggs was fatty and not chewable. The waiter was one of the best I have ever had.
Poor slow service. This restaurant does not need my business, and I will not give them my business. Too many OTHER laces to eat. I am from here.
Really enjoyed our dinner here.
Nothing was too much trouble for the excellent serve staff, the maitre d’ was charming and the 32 ounce porterhouse - fabulous.
Mustn’t forget the mashed potatoes - almost worth the hardening of the arteries you’ll get for over indulging!
Sublime dinning experience! The service was very good and the dishes recommendations were spot on. The food was a delight and we are looking forward to come back!
Food was fabulous and service was great! Highly recommend!
Good food and atmosphere but overpriced
We are tourist and looking forward to eating at one of Charleston’s new places. It was fantastic. Lively crowd. Great service. Nice wine list. But saving the best for last, the food was outstanding. Would definitely be a regular if I lived here.
My colleague and l make a point of eating at the Mac when we are in Charleston. I love the burger with truffle fries . She had the quail and said it was delish. She got the ice cream sandwich of the day which was a riff on a s’more. I had the coconut ice cream. They make the ice cream in house and it’s always been worth the splurge . We each had a glass of wine with our meal and a coffee after dessert. It came out to around $50 each. Quite reasonable got the quality of the food. Lovely wait staff are attentive but not intrusive.
Girlfriend and I ate there Sunday the 4th and it was one of the best restaurant experiences of our lives. The service, the food, the atmosphere all worked perfectly. Our server Max and Chef Harley went over the top and exceeded our expectations. Will be back every chance we get!
Terrific find here. Max our server was excellent and attended to us both professionally and friendly. The whole fish that evening served on a full bed of collard greens and ham hocks was off the charts. It fed two growing men!
For the appetizers, we had the leek appetizer that made us appreciate leeks even more. The special asparagus appetizer was tasty along with the sweetbreads. The bone marrow bread pudding is a given.
All around....terrific dining experience. I wish the chef was available for a quick chat. There is a lot of interesting creative cuisine going on here.
The bar scene looks tempting next time too!
Was unsure about choosing this restaurant when looking at the menu online. They were busy and the manager Meredith stepped into help...she was really friendly, knowledgeable and helped guide us through the menu. She steered us in the right direction and we had one of the most amazing meals here. The food is creative and reasonably priced for the quality. There are a lot of high end restaurants in Charleston, and you should definitely make sure you check our The Macintosh!
The food was delicious but the kitchen and the server staff were having issues. Food took a long time to come out and our server forgot to pick up our second cocktail order from the bar. The bartender and I made eye contact several times and I nearly got up to get the drinks myself! The scallops are amazing—crispy on top and cooked to a silky perfection.
My wife and I absolutely loved this place. We had a wonderful server who was very helpful in getting us to pick the best things on the menu. Everything she recommended was amazing and some of it we wouldn't have ordered otherwise. The food itself is among the best I've ever had, ever. You can tell the quality of the initial ingredients is superb and you can tell the chef's skill matches this quality. The chef even came to our table to see how everything was going and chat for a minute. Will absolutely be going back when in Charleston again.
We had such a wonderful meal at The Macintosh. The food was creative and delicious- I never thought leeks could taste so good! Our server was very friendly and answered any questions we had with interesting details. We went for my birthday and thought the custom printed menu with “Happy Birthday” on it was a really nice touch, as was the very delicious rocky road ice cream cookie with a candle they brought out.
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday and absolutely loved our dinner! Chef does some truly amazing things with bone marrow, like seriously inventive and delicious. Can't say enough good things about the sweet breads, duck and steak. Thoroughly enjoyed each moment of our meal. Our server was well informed about the menu and decently prompt, had an awkward table presence but we enjoyed his service!
Had brunch with visiting friends. Loved the vibe of the restaurant, but it was noisy and we were glad to be in a corner at the front of the main room. Have to say the truffle fries are ridiculous! Order them. Food was very good - but there are a lot of places in CHS that are very good. Have to admit that we went because I couldn't get a reservation at Luke's. But glad we tried it.
A nice environment and the folks seem to try very hard. The food however is sub par. It seems they are trying too hard to develop complex dishes rather than focusing on what makes good food. Noticed the final prep area was backed up and perhaps that leads to meals sitting too long? Not much to like with any of the dishes we tried.
Definitely in the top 5 of Charleston's fine dining. Unbelievable service and friendliness of staff. Worth a trip there just for that. Don't miss this restaurant.
Outstanding service and kindness for a joint birthday celebration. Good food too prepared as requested.
Thank you Mackintosh!
First time at Macintosh and it won’t be the last. Thank you, I will now be dreaming of the Mac Attack, which has a bone marrow bread pudding as it’s base-(don’t let the name scare you away, it was scrumptious). Washed down with a bacon Bloody Mary, I was in foodie heaven. And my husband, who had the skirt steak, exclaimed that it was the best he’s had outside of our own kitchen. This coming from a man whose steaks have caused 2 vegetarians to regain consciousness and eat meat again. Really was a highlight of our trip in a town with a great restaurant on every corner, this is a standout.
One of our favorite date nights restaurants. The food is spectacular and the service is top notch. Highly recommended!
We were greeted and taken to our table by the manager, Julie. She also checked on us and brought us a complimentary salad which was delicious. Wonderful service which made for a great evening out! We have dined at The Macintosh several times and the food has been fresh and creative each time. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston!!
The Food was delicious as was the service!
My favorite restaurant in Charleston! The menu changes seasonally based on local ingredients, so there are always delicious new things to try. Most recently the Anchovy Broccoli dish was to die for and so unique! :) My husband had the Deckle and the Bone Marrow Bread Pudding. He loved it! It was our anniversary and the server surprised us with a Goat Cheesecake! Speaking of service...it was knowledgeable and friendly and warm. So many staff stopped by our table to assist with service, it's hard to name just one. Everyone was delightful. Such a lovely evening! Thanks Macintosh!
Very good but not outstanding meal; somewhat noisy. The service was terrific, however.
We had not been in awhile to this restaurant but will definitely visit it much sooner next time. The food was delicious, including appetizers, entrees, dessert. Cocktails were right on target.
The best short rib I’ve ever tasted. My experience was outstanding and I cannot wait to recommend the Macintosh to my guests!
Second time visiting this restaurant and enjoyed it both times. My food was a little salty but manager was right on top of it. Offered a free appetizer while recooking (which I declined because I didn't want to be too full to enjoy my meal), offered free dessert (too full) and ended the night by comping us the first appetizer.
Try their special drinks!! Great place and even though a hiccup would still recommend and return again.
We like to try different places around Charleston that we haven’t been before. First of all, the service was outstanding. I don’t eat meat, so the waiter asked the chef to make the gnuddi appetizer vegetarian. Amazing! I think it’s a sign of a good chef to be able to adjust a menu item like that. My husband had the CAB Deckle and he put it amongst the top 3 meals of all time. I had the triggerfish and it was the richest fish dish I’ve ever had. Our waiter. Zack, and the manager were so gracious-very kind and attentive. We highly recommend. We checked out the brunch menu before we left , so we can plan to check that out too.
The food was amazing. I had the gnoddi with rabbit and a bone marrow pouddin. They also have non alcoholic beverages. I totally recommend it.
The drinks, food and service were all great, so it's easy to see why it's rated so high. Very creative approaches to the drinks and food. I had never had rudderfish. The triggerfish was also wonderful. It was a little noisy, but it was packed and a Saturday night. Enjoyed it!
Superb service and delicious food
Simply outstanding. Impeccable service. Unsurpassed food. This was our second time there. How impressed were we with our first visit? This much: we flew down from Long Island to Charleston just so we could spend a special birthday dinner at The Macintosh!
We haven't had anything that wasn't incredible, but our two favorites are the short rib cappelletti and the CAB Deckle-- a piece of meat that simply melted in my mouth.
From appetizers through dessert, an exquisite meal, made even better by literally perfect service. Attentive, but not overwhelming. Informative & friendly. Totally professional.
I cannot more highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.
I work in the business so I will never single out anything, safe to say I will recommend it.
The food was excellent. Nice ambiance. Great spot for Sunday brunch.
We had brunch at the Macintosh and the food was great, the service was awesome as well. We were celebrating birthdays and our server (I think his name is Zach) gave us extra mimosas and a birthday special funnel cake type of dessert. We will definitely be back!
Taking all aspects of a fine dining experience into account, Macintosh remains our favorite restaurant in Charleston. The food is inventive, the servers are always very knowledgeable, and the portions are right-sized, and the prices are reasonable.
