Service is always terrible and the manage,ent doesn’t care
We were so happy to be able to walk in and have a beautiful brunch in the lovely restaurant. The quality of the food was top-notch, unfortunately all of it was cold. The breezeway where it is set up has a constant draft so perhaps moving the buffet setup some where warmer so the food and coffee and tea aren’t all cold. It was a very poor value overall, and we will be back only to watch movies. The kitchen staff was nice enough to remake the pancakes and bring fresh coffee, but it took about 10 minutes to get the attention of the waiter. It does appear they need to hire more staff and think about logistics of a buffet better.
We were ignored for first 15 min after we sat down. The host tried his best to not make us feel neglected. He checked on us throughout the night. Not sure if they were short staffed or not. Restaurant was 2/3 empty when we sat down.
Food was tasty (Brussels sprouts, flatbread pizza) and vibe was good.
Would like to come back with a group next time. Outdoor seating was awesome.
Breakfast is the best meal of the day at The Lot. The food is good the atmosphere outstanding and best of all they will take reservations. I like the Lot for anytime of day but more value in every way in breakfast
We were treated like VIP’s for a birthday with complimentary dessert and 2 movie passes!

Mothers Day Brunch was a zoo. Pretty weak presentation for $50pp. Zero service. Never got a plate cleared in two hours. Had to beg for a bill that ended up being $300 for 2 adults & two kids. Never again!
We went here for Mother's Day Brunch & sat on the patio area. We had Open Table reservations & got seated quickly. There was an omelet station & crepe station, plus other hot foods, salads, deserts. However, for $50 there wasn't prime rib or roast beef station. There was salmon & chicken (needed a sauce). The brunch was small but moved quickly. There were $5 bottomless mimosas which was a great deal. Service was attentive. The music was not too loud which is a good thing. Nice atmosphere. This place actually is attached to a movie theater so this is a nice entertainment venue.
Great place. We were there when they opened at 7:00 A.M. The waiter was terrific. The food was good. All around great experience.

Food was very good, they just did not get it right the first time for one of us, but they did correct it quickly. Service was otherwise very slow. Not sure if they were understaffed or inexperienced. I am leaning towards inexperienced.
The Lot is a great place but this time the entrees were a little underwhelming. The fish of the day was a tad bit charred on the outside and undercooked in the middle. And the Paellea was good but not my favorite. Artichokes were amazing and the beers were great.. Next time though I’m going with some different entrees
Our waitress, Ashley, was extremely outgoing and professional along with the rest of the staff that helped make my girlfriend's birthday dinner a memorable one.
Was my first time trying their weekend brunch menu. Being a Hash snub, I ordered their Carnitas Hash as a Litmus test. It was very average in short! It was too chunky (big pieces of potato and forgettable pork) for my taste with a frugal serving of a very bland Hollandaise sauce. Others ordered the 2 burgers on the menu but were not too impressed.
Ambience: nice & inviting
Margarita flatbread was great so is the Pasta Bolognese
Perfect place for a relaxing/fun family Easter brunch! Fantastic service and exceptional food selection that was well planned to please every age/diet in our party.
Easter Sunday brunch was delightful and complete with an adorable bunny. The made to order crepes and cream Caramel were the delicious highlight for me. Everything was wonderful!
Really enjoyed the Eggs Benedict for breakfast. Very nice stylish atmosphere. Free underground parking. I like that you can also be served in the movie theater. Good bakery items and coffee’s also.
Went to experience their Oscar Night viewing party. Great crowd, fun time. Could actually see and hear the event well. Only complaint is that they needed a bit more staff working that night. Looking forward to going back to do a dinner and theater combo.
Terriby, embarrassingly overpriced. We had heard this from several people but, in the interest of convenience, we opted to go.
A price of Chardonnay was the price of an entire bottle. The entrees were OK but portions very, very small.
Would not return nor recommend.
Great ambiance and Wonderful lunch menu selections but actual food was actually rather tasteless
I took my wife to a movie and dinner at The Lot for Valentines Day. My first impression was negative. I bought movie tickets which were $15 each (we are seniors) but was charged a $2.50 service fee for each ticket. WHAT? I bought the tickets at the location. What is the service fee for? Why not just charge $17.50 for the tickets. The theater was wonderful with power reclining chairs and food and beverage service right at your seat. The dinner, thought I felt a little high priced at $65 per person, was great. But again there was a 4% surcharge on top of the menu prices due to paying the employees more money because of minimum wage rules. Again, don't charge me the price on the menu and then charge me a surcharge. Just raise the prices on your menu. They aren't going to lower the minimum wage you have to pay. Service was a little so-so. Although very nice servers, at there prices, I should have had more attention than I received. The restaurant is open to the outside and it was a chilly night and my wife was uncomfortable due to the cold.
Very bad service and disappointed. Very slow and the menu is terrible now that it has been changed.
Lunch and a movie!
The Magic was great!!!! The service was less than magical, but perhaps they were overwhelmed. The food was excellent. The salmon was very very well prepared and served.

It was convenient to eat here before our movie but the service was lacking... Rather inattentive we had to seek out the server more than once... The food was good but overall the experience was unsatisfying.
We went for breakfast on a Sunday. If chefs are judged by their ability to make eggs — a simple farm omelet (in my case with the San Diegan) or a poached egg (in my wife’s case with the avocado toast), then the chef failed. But the failures extended to soggy bread under my wife’s dish and an overdressed salad (a substitute for Rosemary potatoes on mine). Also my wife’s flat extra hot latte was both luke warm and full of foam. The regular coffee is nice. Service was unflaggingly friendly, if inattentive. All in all, and especially given the price which is comparable to several superior competitors also in La Jolla proper, we won’t be returning except perhaps for a cocktail and movie.
Even thyI had made reservations they tried to sit us outside, I had to demand inside dining. They sat us at a 6 person table when we were only 4 people.
Great neighborhood place to hang out with a wonderful ambience. It is so nice to go out for an evening, enjoy a drink, have dinner, then see a show, and still be very close to home!
This was our first time at The LOT in La Jolla and it was one of the poorest dining experiences we have encountered. We arrived on time for our 11:45 am reservation and were seated immediately. The venue is nice with very spacious indoor / outdoor seating adjacent to the bar and theater. It was cool but patio heaters helped take the edge off. Our waiter was very accommodating when we asked to try some of the beers on tap. He took our order and we enjoyed our drinks.
My wife’s fish tacos arrived first and they were outstanding. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse. Our guest ordered a smoked turkey sandwich on wheat but received a tuna-salad on sourdough. We sent it back and the replacement was also wrong. She then received a smoked turkey on sourdough and not wheat-bread. Back to the kitchen. My ($18) burger arrived. I ordered it between medium-rare and medium. After eating some it I noticed that it was raw in the center. They offered to cook it a bit longer, which I surmised would take less time than cooking a new one. The re-cooked burger arrived and it was evident there was more char, but it was still raw in the center. When the waiter arrived, and saw that it was still raw, he asked if I wanted a replacement or to take it off the bill. I opted for the latter but also asked to talk to the manager. The head-manager never arrived. We could see that she went to talk to the wait staff, glancing in our direction as they spoke, but she proceeded to another table to conduct what looked like an interview. She clearly knew we wanted to talk to her but she ignored us.
After quite a while, a second request was made to the waiter to speak to the manager, and a second, more junior manager did stop by. Though she did listen, I was left with the impression… “so what am I supposed to do about it”.
We’ll probably not return. It’s a shame because the idea of a nice movie venue with good food was very appealing.
We saw a movie at The Lot and decided to try out the restaurant after the movie. We had made a reservation through Open Table a couple of weeks in advance, so we were disappointed that a table wasn't ready for us when we arrived; instead we were seated at a tiny table in the bar (with our child), right under the extraordinarily loud speakers. There was great live salsa music playing outside, but we were there just for dinner and couldn't hear each other or the wait staff. The food was good, but not fantastic, and certainly overpriced for what it was. I'm sure the folks dancing were having a good time, but it was not at all what we expected when we made dinner reservations for after the movie. We will eat elsewhere after a movie the next time.
We were looking forward to trying “The Lot” for dinner after a movie. It was Christmas Day — party arriving to the hostess station was perturbed they had a “lost reservation”. Staff members were flustered which rubbed off slightly in us following the mix up. Our waiter had a large party table in between our service. Time management was not the best but understood it was hectic. Our waiter recognized this and did apologize for not checking on us as often. Asian salad was over dressed and soupy at the end. Crispy chicken sandwich was dry. We are up for another non- holiday shot at “The Lot”
My family booked brunch there on Christmas day... it was supposed to be a special day with good food at a nice restaurant.... let me start with what went wrong:
OUR FOOD DID NOT ARRIVE after 1 1/2 h of patiently waiting with 3 very hungry kids (apparently they were slammed in the kitchen although the restaurant was not full at all!)
BUT ON THE POSITIVE SIDE:
The waitress was nice and the manager came by our table twice to apologize for the wait
Just as we gave up and left the restaurant our food supposedly arrived, so they packed it up to go and gave it to us free of charge - we ended up eating in the car!!!!)
I would give them another chance, seeing that the food was tasty and the manager super apologetic for what happened, but my husband was very negatively impressed and disappointed that our Christmas lunch was ruined. He has vowed to never go back!
I am sure it was not their normal and would still recommend the place!
Everyone has bad days right?!?!
The place is aesthetically exquisite with the open spaces, wood, flowers, plants. It has quality and good taste. The food was delicious and we were able to taste authentic Mexican tacos. The live music and people dancing made us feel like we were in a friendly environment, where a group of diverse human beings were open and welcoming. It looked like a living room in a happy home.
We have eaten there numerous times since it has opened and our disappointment is still with the service. It’s a great place but if it’s a Girls Birthday Coffee or Sunday lunch w my 91 year old mother- they just don’t get it. We do love the ambiance but we’re all scratching our heads that even w constructive criticism, the management still needs to hire more servers or kitchen help- it’s unbelievable to wait an hour for eggs!
This place has potential. The location and ambiance are nice but the food is mediocre and the service is awful. They seems to be fatally understaffed. There is nobody welcoming you so you need to figure out where to go and where to seat and the few people actually working just look at you like “Wait! What are you doing here? Please don’t come”. We had to scream to the only waiter they have at the time more than once in order to get his attention or to get things that we previously ordered.
This was a big disappointment. We're locals, and have enjoyed The Lot in the past. So much so that we decided to show off our neighborhood find to family from San Diego proper and Escondido. AND, MIND YOU, THIS WAS OUR THANKSGIVING GET-TOGETHER.
We arrived at about 1:05 for our 1:15 reservation (which we not only set up through Open Table, but confirmed through text the day before (I know many of you are rankled by these "Why do I have to call back to confirm a reservation I already made"). Both of our guests had already arrived. We finally got ahold of someone that seemed to be responsible for seating us. He curtly informed us that he would likely be able to seat us shortly; in fact, fairly close to 1:15. So, though there tables ready and space aplenty, we loitered around in the lobby (5 of us) like a gang with nothing to do. I finally found someone else who acted like customers mattered, and he seated us. Our server then was much better at talking than listening. He left the table with two drink orders (when there were four customers who wanted drinks). And, each time he came to the table, he interrupted ongoing conversations. After the second time, I stopped telling him that someone was talking.
