The London Bar & Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Mr. Ramsay is my favorite chef, I cook his recipes, watch his shows and like him as a person and as a chef, but after dining at the London Bar, Mr. Ramsay is not my favorite chef any more. In comparison with the dining experience I had at this restaurant in Singapore, the Bread Street (PERFECT), The Maze is not better than very poor. Service is not up to the level of low cost restaurants in Manhattan, atmosphere is like someone has died but the worst disappointment comes with the food. Serious lack of imagination and both mains were bland, the stake and the risotto. They don't have salt in the kitchen or what? Maybe Mr. Ramsay should pay a bit closer attention to this restaurant and the management as his reputation will go down if this, not up to the standard service, continues. I think it is the time for Mr. Ramsay to critically analyze his Maze before criticizing others or even worse advising other restaurant owners how to become successful. The Maze is disaster.
Worst of The group of restaurants that I have visited.
Seems that London has it right and New York has it wrong.
Sat at a table looking at the back of house mess.
The only time we saw the waiter was to take our order for food and wine.
Had to pour our own wine and water until we asked for the bill then the waiter was attentive.
Sorry Won't be coming back.
I believe the level of service and food quality will remain superior even though Ramsey and the London are parting ways. Chef left his mark on this spot. The waitstaff are very attentive. Some of the food will only be appreciated by foodies because of the dish's flavor complexities, but no one should pass up the opportunity to dine here. Bring a few extra dollars, it'll be worth it.
Every entree was perfect! Right amount of salt, pepper, sauce, portioning, etc.
The ambiance was also perfect! Especially the lighting, it wasn't too bright or too dim.
The servers and managers were very friendly and helpful. They never neglected to ask if we were doing fine.
I would love to go back and try all of their dish. It was definitely worth it.
I have been to Maze many times. While the food is good, the menu is divided into Small Plates and Small Plates - some are small, some are larger, makes it hard to order. The scallops were tasty but 3 tiny ones came on the plate which is fine for a woman but a man would have been hungry. The chopped salad was ok, nothing special. Service was unacceptable for a Gordon Ramsay restaurant full stop. I had the same issue the last time I dined here with a group. Waiters are inattentive and not gracious. Location is convenient and the bar area is nice for a drink or a coffee. The seating feels more like a diner than fine dining. Probably won't go back unless I need a spot in that location.
Yes, restaurants owned by famous chefs shouldn't necessarily be revered as awesome automatically, but this was a less than par experience. It is a lounge type atmosphere which is nice and relaxing. I'm very confused because I thought this place was a full restaurant with a full menu, appetizers, entrees, etc. The menu was very small....small plates all around. The menu was filled with "small plates" at big plate prices. Very confused.
The steak frites was a good dish, steak being very well cooked, fries being meh. The scallop dish was done well. But the side for the scallops, I believe they were leeks, tasted bitter and sour. Not very appetizing. We also got dessert, the chocolate cake which wasn't anything to write home about, tasted like a heated up frozen dessert. Then the service was as slow as possible. They wouldn't come over to check on you unless you actually called them over, if they were ever around. I think Gordon needs to do a kitchen nightmares with his own place.
The food and service were very good. The manager was even kind enough to add a free dessert because we were curious about how it would taste. The only thing I would say that could be better are the portion sizes, after bread, an appetizer and dessert I was still left hungry. I love the style of the restaraunt and the drinks. (Order the carrot cake it's amazing!)
Server was unfriendly and not helpful. Also there were no Martini glasses (for which the bartender did apologize for, seemed to be frustrated). For a restaurant associated with Gordam Ramsey, who (at least on television) demonstrates high standards, I was very disappointed.
We were very disappointed in the restaurant and its food. Very quiet for a late Saturday night. The eggplant parmigiana had no taste and a burger which had great quality meat but covered in sauce and a relish that had a weird taste, then more sauce of another kind. Fries were good. Somewhat of a odd menu. It was a Maze. Not aMazing!
Visted the city for the weekend and this restaurant was our last on the list of favorites. Someone better yell at Gordon!
The good was exceptional and the only reason I would recommend this restaurant to anyone as the service was terrible. The host pointed to what table was outs instead of escorting there. The server did not ask how I wanted the steak cooked. I had to prompt him to ask me and he seemed very confused that I asked if I had a preference on how it was cooked. When the bill came we were charged for 2 bottles of wine not 1 and when we told the server he was trying to tell us only 1 was on there. He finally "saw it" (we only had 6 other items on the bill it was obvious there were 2 bottles) and said he would change it. Our bill took 38 minutes to complete. It was a Friday night and not very busy at all, perhaps this is why.
We were very dissapointed to find out that the Maze was just the bar/restaurant/breakfastroom. So when we went to diner, the table was just two rond tables pushed together and the music was very, very loud, so we couldn't really talk. And there was no restaurant ambiance. We only ordered one dish and were out of there in les that one hour. NY'kers talk really loud, so with the music and the yelling, we wouldn't recommand it.
I loved this place before they changed the menu and format to small plates only. All the great items are gone such as the brussel sprouts and the famous Beef Wellington! This was a huge disappointed as I was hosting an overseas business partner and had bragged about what an amazing culinary experience we were in for. Unfortunately, we were surprised by the new menu and Very disappointed. The food was ok but not even close to where it was.
My fiancé and I were so excited to have dinner at MAZE but when we finally arrived we were underwhelmed. The food was plain and bland. I had ordered from the four course pre fix menu and every single item that came out was a flavorless disappointment. To make matters worse, the service was horrible. Our server was incredibly slow and inattentive to our needs. They also over charged us on our bill and it took forever to get this resolved. Will never be coming back nor would I suggest this establishment to anyone if you are in the city. There are so many other great places to try and this was not one.
Overall my friend and I enjoyed Maze. I'm not a fan of tapas restaurants but I enjoyed the variety of menu items we tasted. Our sausage flatbread and eggplant parmesan came out cold. It seemed like one was ready and the other was not, so by the time they both came out they were cold. Flavor-wise they were on point. The scallops were cooked well. The carrot cake was a little bit disappointing. I like the muffin-like taste of the cake but wasn't a big fan of the frosting, which is unusual. Loved the interior decor. Service was a little slow.
This restaurant is nothing like the Gordon Ramsey Maze in London. Menu is not really Tapas at all. Limited selection of dishes and very poor service, wait staff not really interested in serving, never brought one of the appetizers we ordered. would not recommend
Food is really good. The cod was well prepared and delicious. There is a tasty selection of bread served with real butter. Be advised, there are 2 rooms. The bar room is lively and noisy and has an a la carte menu. The inner room is quiet and has 2 price fixed menu - tasting (expensive) and 3 course (a little less expensive). If you do not want to eat 3 or 5 courses, reserve the bar room
I don't think Gordon Ramsay has his eye on this restaurant. Sub-par when compared to his Las Vegas establishment. The food was very average and not served hot. Service was slow and confused at times.
Skip it. There are much better places to eat in New York.
I've been to Maze by Gordon Ramsay twice and both visits have been great. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food at a good price. The only thing I wish there was a better working website with a menu to more easily plan out a visit to the restaurant.
