The Loft Cafe + Social Lounge Ratings and Reviews
We would have left.
From the moment my date and I walked in — completely ignored by staff — we traded knowing glances daring each other to make a move for the door. We should have left. I mean, this is America. We have free will. This is a capitalist society and businesses that don't live up to muster don't stay in business long. How bad could it be?
We could have left.
After a group of four vacated their table in the bar to go upstairs, we were told we could take their spot. Still ignored, menu-less, we wondered out-loud (although unable to hear each other over the cacophony at the bar) about what was in store for us. We sat for what felt like an eternity until the waitress brought over menus. Judging by the way a dried and crunchy dollop of pesto coated the wine list on the back of the menu, I had an intuition that the pesto dish might be popular.
We should have left.
If you're considering this place, take my advice and take a hard pass. There are plenty of places within walking distance that have better service, better wine lists and better food.
Our server was outstanding and very attentive. The food was quite good but took an incredibly long time just to get apps. The down side was the seeting in the front along side the entrence and bar is way to tight. There is not enogh room to allow people through to the entrance and other customers and staff will continually run into your back all night long. If you get seated heresit in these seats with your back to the bar, you will be consistantly bumped and interupted through out your dinner. That added to the noise level up front made for a no good very bad date night.
We had a reservation and were seated in a reasonable amount of time. Even though there were open tables we were seated right next to two other people. We felt like we were practically sitting on top of them. After ordering our food our server did not return to our table for a long time before bringing our drinks. We also watched other people seated after us served their food. Finally the food arrived with the salad and main course arriving at the same time! The food was average. The service throughout the meal was poor. When we paid the bill we asked for a receipt which we finally got tired of waiting for and so we left. I generally do not write poor reviews but in this case it was just too many things that didn’t go right. We probably won’t return.
A group of 6 of us had dinner reservations at 6:00 pm on a Wednesday. One of us arrived early and ordered some appetizers at about 5:50. The 2 appetizers were delivered 25 minutes later and just before the other members of the party arrived. Several more small plates were ordered at 6:20 along with wine and drinks. The drinks came shortly after but the food did not get plated until 7:25. We had expected to have plenty of time to eat and attend a concert at 7:30. We left with boxed food and some of the party had nothing to eat until much later. It was a very disappointing experience. The food that we did get was good but way too slow. There are many other restaurants in the area that have great food and MUCH faster service.
My husband and I are vegetarians and most restaurants in the Seattle area have entrees for us but not a single option at this place. We had looked at the online menu before coming here and it did have options listed that we could eat. However, when we got to the restaurant the menu was totally different. The waitress recommended that we get some sides of vegetables or a caesar salad (btw Caesar salad has anchovies in the dressing which she was unaware of).
I fail to understand why meat eaters think vegetarians only eat vegetables, we would starve if we ate like rabbits. A salad or veggies is not satiating and does not provide enough energy.
On top of that, the service was very slow.
We will not be back to this unenlightened restaurant.
The Loft was a solid "ok". The restaurant is tucked behind a very narrow, crowded bar scene, and although most of the tables were empty, kitchen service was quite slow. This could be a great place with a few minor changes to the layout. I appreciate their effort to create an outdoor space in the city, and the menu was diverse and interesting. We had the charcuterie platter, and my friends had a burger and caprese salad. The food was pretty good, but the slow service, and difficulty leaving once we paid (bar patrons block the exit and aren't keen on moving) don't make me want to come back anytime soon for a meal. Looks like a fun place to grab a drink instead!
We were seated at our outside table on time but sat for over 20 minutes waiting for a server. I know they were pretty busy but no one stopped at our table to acknowledge the fact nor explain that there would be a wait. We weren't offered water or a chance to order a drink or get a menu. So after 20 plus minutes we got up and left our table and went to another restaurant down the street. Will never return to the restaurant again as it was embarrassing to our friend.
(Note: we had to rate the food in order to submit this review - but we didn't eat anything so I can't really rate the food.)
The food was decent. The setting was like being in a back yard tent. Aside from ordering, the waiter came by once right after we got our food. We would have ordered more drinks but he didn't come by to ask. They have you pay the bill on an ipad, so we didn't see the itemized bill, which was uncomfortable. We paid and then did the math in our heads, and determined that we'd been overcharged by $23 plus tax. They fixed it right away but it would be better if the customer could see what you are charging them for. At 8:30 they turned the back yard into a dance club with a loud band. We went across the street to a quieter place and had that drink we couldn't get at the Loft. We won't go back.
The food was fantastic!! My friends and I ordered a couple of appetizers and all had something different for dinner. I tried a little of everyone's and everything was delicious. Definetly worth going back for! The only thing I found a bit lacking was the service. Our server was very nice and got us everything we needed, we just didn't see him very often. We were sitting upstairs, so that may have had something to do with it, but any waiter should be checking in all the tables regularly, no matter where the tables are.
The food was fine, but the service was poor from start to finish: delay in taking drinks order; slow in bringing drinks; very slow in serving appetizer; for additional drinks, we received one after 20 minutes, and never received the other. The server obviously knew the service was bad -- had no shortage of excuses -- but made no attempt to make it right. We had to point out we'd been charged for the drink we never received.
The clams my wife ordered were not as expected, steamed in white wine, they were cooked in a red sauce and very spicy, the description said nothing about spicy. I ordered the 12oz NY steak it was over cooked... Well done when I ordered medium rare, the excuse given was the kitchen was overwhelmed, rather than offer to cook me a fresh steak, they offered 20% off the bill, I would have preferred my steak cooked properly. The drinks were decent, service was poor, our server was far and few on visits or just passing through the area in general.
We had an enjoyable time, the food and service were good. The only objection was the noise level. The cozy/small facility made the obviously "happy" lady in the bar heard throughout the whole upstairs all during her obviously very funny conversation with her companions. Worked well for a get-together with friends.
Had 5:30 reservations on Valentine's Day. Greeted quite warmly by the Owner, seated promptly. Service was very personable and not high-pressured, lots of time to decide, but prompt service when we were ready. Food was very delicious and creative, atmosphere was great, even outdoors on a cold day, felt like we were inside a warm room. Would recommend for an evening of Romance , intimacy, and great food. Ambience was just wonderful, thank you.
We all had wonderful meals at The Loft Restaurant! The burgers were outstanding and the risotto with chicken was delicious! We had fabulous drinks, the Edmonds Mule was served cold in a copper mug and so good! The service and ambiance were great!! WE will be back!
