Was an OK dinner. Christian was a great server, but I had asked for a specialty cocktail (the Pomegranate Gimlet), I was given a whisper of Hendricks gin with a lot of lime juice, and a $1.00 'gimlet' surcharge...a bit more than the $9 on-line menu price.
My trout was 'average', as well as our guest's meatloaf. The short ribs were OK, but the blackberry cobbler was a coddled combination of hot blackberries and quickly melting ice cream, with perhaps a 'wafer' of a breaded crust (we think). We've been here many times before, and we'll come back, but it was not up to par last Sunday night.
Food quality and service have declined since last year.
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant anymore
AMAZING! The food, the ambiance and the service were perfect... I highly recommend the mushroom pasta and the lobster Mac n cheese...
I enjoyed my food quite a bit, and had the goat cheese salad, scallops special, and gnocchi. The service was a bit slow, and it was several minutes before I was greeted. The food took some time to come out but was fantastic. Reservations are a must.
All of the entrees were terrific but the highlight was dessert -- the Blackberry Cobbler was exceptional!
Quick service, AMAZING food and perfect environment for a birthday date!
The Crispy Shrimp and Lobster Mac n Cheese were delicious. The squash was very good, but there were a few seeds left in it and they were not quite cooked enough. However, their homemade ice cream and flourless chocolate cake were a must have!
I'm literally leaving this review for the pork belly appetizer. Everything else was great too, but just trust me and get it.
My fiance and I were in town for the weekend and had a fantastic meal here. I am gluten free, and their menu is clearly marked with what can be accommodated to be gluten free, which is fantastic. Our server was super friendly and efficient. We had a great spot on the front patio to enjoy the lovely evening and take in the ambiance. The restaurant is situated in a cute little neighborhood with a few other restaurants right there. It is a lovely area to walk around and was overall a wonderful dining experience.
The food was amazing but unfortunately downstairs was unbearably hot. I would recommend specifying the patio or request the upstairs room. The crispy shrimp is amazing, you can never go wrong with the cauliflower and brussel sprouts. THe gnocchi is amazing, just know that the large is a huge portion and extremely heavy.
It was pretty loud due to large prom group. It was also warm in the restaurant needed some air
Loved it. Will return
Our server brought a bowl of crab soup to one of our party, only problem the held the bowl with part of her thumb in the soup, then proceeded to wipe her wet thumb on her pants. While the food was good, the place is very noisy and the service leaves a great deal to be desired. Will not frequent again.
The ambience and service were good. Food was just ok.
The mashed potatoes and short were amazing! Half price bottles of wine on Mondays was a wonderful surprise. Stella (our server) was great as well!
My group and I loved The Local! We visited for a birthday and had a group of 8. Great service! Amazing ambiance and decor! The food was amazing! Good for large groups. We went on a Friday and had a reservation - the only issues we ran into were they were about 15-20 minutes late in seating us and parking was a tad tricky. Regardless, we all would recommend dining at The Local!
My second trip and it was even better than he first!! We were seated upstairs in the bar room and had an amazing view of the glass atrium area behind. I was so impressed and REALLY want to have my daughter’s and her friends’ grad party there next May!! It’s perfect! The staff was attentive and the food was wonderful!! Can’t wait for my next time! #UVA2019
Fabulous as always! Perfect mixed drinks, and the fish, steak and shrimp specials were noteworthy.
Great dinner!! Fun atmosphere!
Great service, excellent food. The cheese platter appetizer was huge and such a treat before our meal after a long day walking!
Loved the open deck area on the second floor. There were plenty of waiters and waitresses who were very speedy and efficient with their service. The atmosphere was great and the food was even better. My girlfriend and I loved everything about it.
Very disappointed in the food... My husband's burger was overcooked, and more importantly the bacon was COLD...as in just out of the refrigerator cold... My trout was not fresh...oviously pre made.. both meals were delivered within 7 minutes of taking the order... had a cheese plate as an appetizer which was uninspiring... Pepperidge Farm crackers, a couple apple slices, and a clump of grapes accompanying 4 varieties of cheese... On the positive, our server was attentive and very polite... EXTREMELY LOUD!!!
Have always sat downstairs but this time got sent upstairs and didn't know what we were in for.
Excellent service, excellent cocktails and good food as always were completely negated by drunken lady from rehearsal dinner on the upstairs back area that twice knocked into our table spilling her drink on our out of town guests. She was not the only problem guest at the rehearsal dinner, a young drunken man spent the evening babbling to tables of people that just wanted to be left alone.
It's not the restaurants fault per se, but people should be required to rent the entire upstairs and not subject innocent patrons to their antics.
My advice never ever agree to sit up stairs until you ask what is going on in the attic.
The food was good and our server was nice but they did not have enough staff to cover a busy night. Appetizers came before drinks, servers and managers were running around trying to serve food and keep up with customers’ requests. We weren’t in a hurry, but it felt like the servers were spread too thinly: 8-10 tables per section.
Food was outstanding. The shrimp appetizer was amazing! The Brussels sprout and cauliflower appetizer was good, a bit salty. We had a special filet, trout and meatloaf...all were fantastic. The mash potatoes are incredible. The flourless chocolate cake was really good!
Great dinner. We were drawn to locally sourced creative menu and were not disappointed! Fresh creative delicious- pork chop—tender and juicy with great flavor. Fried chicken over collard greens and pimento cheese Mac. Appetizer of fried cauliflower and Brussels sprouts...seasoning so yummy very light breading! Highly recommend.
Everything was great but the French fries which weren't cooked all the way. That's usually not the norm there.
Really enjoyed The Local! Service was just okay but food was amazing!
The local offers an overall great atmosphere and unique menu making the perfect dinner spot for a special occasion or business dinner. I have been three different times sampling three different meals each time. The traditional menu offers pretty diverse yet tasty menu options. The steak frites is notable due to its generous portion of steak (at least 10 oz) and its excellent flavor for around $20. However, this most recent occasion I had one of the specials, the "bison hangar steak." The steak was way over seasoned (overpowered by a soy tasting salty sauce) and when ordered medium rare comes well done. Therefore it was tough and overall disappointing. Although this experience was underwhelming, the other two times have been great and they are saved by there extensive wine and drinks menu. Just beware of the "specials."
Very very good food, and good service. The steak frites was great - excellent steak and good (a bit limp) fries. The gnocchi was homemade. The only complaint was that we felt a bit rushed, even though we had a reservation and were seated early. The food took a while to arrive, which we didn't mind, but that may have kept us at the table longer than someone wanted us to be, so we were asked if we wanted dessert while we were still eating entrees. Noisy, but fun space.
The food was good and I really liked the service until the end. If you are going here on a weekend I would suggest you be a fast eater. We arrived on time for our 630 reservation and we seated upstairs. We ordered appetizers wine and dinner. At 815 we were rudely informed by our waiter and the hostess that there was someone waiting for our table and we needed to leave. There was an open table behind us and we did make a reservation. I will not go to this restaurant again
We had a good experience - great service, great food. We weren’t thrilled by the drink selections (we like higher quality wines and spirits) but overall we had a good experience and will be going back.
There was no heat in our seating area and then even the food arrived under temperature. There shouldn’t be seating allowed if the basic facilities aren’t being met in a portion of the building.
Further, there was not enough staff, but those available were great.
Celebrating my younger son’s birthday with the rest of the family. He chose the restaurant because he loves the lobster Mac and Cheese. We had a wonderful meal, with great service and consider The Local to be one of our favorite restaurants
Food was excellent, second tome back. Everything thing was very good once again! The Local has become one of our favorites!
In a word: wonderful!
The food was great as always. You can get some different foods that are always delicious.
Good food, fast service, and friendly staff. Consistent quality, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
We had a great dinner, but my fiancé had to send his burger back two times for being over cooked. The manager comped the dinner, but everything else we ate was phenomenal! The noise level can be high, but the older building is absolutely beautiful. The service was great as well! We are excited to host our rehearsal dinner at The Local in 2019!
Good food and service, waiter was great.
