Great food. Reasonable prices. Service was slow but it was graduation weekend so they were pretty full
The food was SO good and tasty. Out of town friends loved it and felt like they got to see a bit of Charlottesville charm.
Our wattress was wonderful! The food sad mediocre. My barramundi was cold when it arrived and it was falling apart before I received it. The noise level was loud and the environment upstairs did not feel intimate. Unfortunately, this is the third time in a row that I thought the food was only mediocre.
Always a good meal.
The Local has great food and an equally great vibe! It’s off the beaten path and worth the extra effort to get there. 2nd time there and absolutely not the last!!
Nice formal-casual place with great food, mostly organic. Interesting menu. Our meals were all wonderful. Service was good, easy to make reservations, seated right away, treated well. All in all an excellent experience.
We have been to the Local many times before and have always had a great experience overall, but
unfortunately, our latest dining experience there was incredibly sub-par! We ordered 5 appetizers for everyone to share and one friend ordered an appetizer for her main course. We received 2 of our appetizers in a reasonable amount of time, but then had to wait more than 20 minutes to receive the rest of them. When they finally came, the waiter also brought the appetizer that my friend had ordered for her main course! The waiter then brought our main courses literally 5 minutes after we received the appetizers. We didn't have time to enjoy our appetizers without our main courses getting cold!! My husband ordered the fried trout which was served to him at room temperature and soggy!! It was an incredibly disappointing experience at a restaurant that ordinarily does a great job and serves delicious food!
Always a great place to go to when you're in town. Check it out sometime.
Chicken adobo. Siracha aoli attractive (bright orange) and tasty, but don't use same siracha flavoring in the pasta side or it is over kill and one taste for the whole entree. We like contrast to sake up the taste buds. Collard green side yummy.
Same issue with House salad which had a strongly vinagery vinegrette and onions pickled in vinegar. Too much vinegar. Add something sweet like raw apples and you'd have it.
Service was great as well as food. Would recommend staff have more knowledge regarding Virginia wines as there is an attempt to feature these.
Great place to sit down, eat some appetizers, drink some cocktails, and enjoy the ambiance.
Enjoyed the meal, service was good...just too busy for my taste.
Extremely fast service and very good food. Love the fact that you can get half portions of their pasta.
We visited here on our way through Charlottesville. Cheeseboard appetizer was delicious and pasta entrees were perfection. Our server, Christian, was attentive at all the right times. Definitely will go back!
Easter Was delicious relaxing made for a very memorable time for my family upstairs with the windows open wide and the fresh air coming in our server was personable and helpful we will go back
What a GREAT PLACE...off the beaten path...EXCELLENT FOOD, simple presentation that fits with it's overall ambiance.
Really good food. Steak was fantastic. Somewhat of a limited menu. Could use a couple of additional seafood dishes. But overall I would recommend for a nice night out
Birthday but we did not get asked about it. Otherwise nice evening.
Great food and outstanding service by Christian. We had a reservation and our table was waiting when we arrived. We went as a group of four on a Saturday night. The place was packed and very lively. Our food was cooked just the way we liked it and it arrived to our table in a very reasonable amount of time. We definitely will be returning.
We all enjoyed our drinks, entrees, and desserts. Our server was attentive and friendly. We went for a birthday celebration and our server included a candle on the blackberry cobbler. I hope to return for another special occasion, and I definitely recommend making a reservation on open table!
Food portions were generous -- so much so that a choice of small and large (moderate/immense) would have been appreciated. Wait staff friendly. We did not feel rushed.
A C'ville gem. Food is always excellent and staff is very friendly and accommodating. If you are a foodie, this place is a must.
Food was very good but husband’s meal was rather salty. Very cramped seating and extremely loud. But the good food made it worth those downsides.
First time at The Local. Great local beer selection and excellent food. Our waiter gave us excellent insight on the menu. The fried chicken with collard greens and Mac n cheese was delicious.
We had reservations for 16 people at 8:15 on a Friday night. We didn’t get seated until 9 and our entrees didn’t come out until after 10p. Upstairs is very casual with a deck like feeling. Food was fine- the steak frites was really chewy and poor quality. Due to the slow service they gave us 2 cheese plates. We ordered cocktails that were never brought to the table. Very disappointed
Food and service were top notch. Familiar descriptions of the food on the menu but a wonderful, different, and unexpected take on each of our selections.
Service was awesome from the time we walked in to when we walked out. Very welcoming. Menu had a grear variety of dishes, rasberry beer was delicious.
Delicious food with a reasonable price. I recommend the trout dish. A bottle of wine is half price on Mondays. We got the local Cab Franc from the Jefferson winery and it was excellent. Didn't have room for dessert. The ambiance was very nice. Service was excellent.
The hostess was very pleasant and professional, as were our servers, and that accounts for my 4-star rating. The food was very average (with the desserts not really worth ordering, and we tried three). We enjoyed being seated upstairs and that space has a lot of character. It was exactly what I thought it would be. Casual, relaxed, and fine.
Delicious food. Server was very knowledgeable about wines and food selections. Made great suggestions.
I would go back just for the flambe'd banana split! Never had a banana split made in that manner it was a great treat. The ahi tuna and the lamb ribs were amazing especially since they are hard to find in this area.
Great experience. Excellent food and highly attentive wait staff. We are from out of town and ate there on the recommendation of a local. Very pleased that we did.
The Local is really good about understanding food allergies and is willing to think creatively about how to deliver a good meal and experience within those constraints.
Great food. Great waiter, but he was stretched a little too thin. 2nd time we've eaten there -- couldn't wait to go back when in Ch'ville! Cocktails are creative and yummy (especially enjoyed the margarita!). Cauliflower and brussels sprouts appetizer is a must, BUT chef went too crazy with the red pepper this time, so it was TOO hot. Had steak and salmon entrees and both were excellent. Love the blackberry cobbler dessert.
First time for my husband and I at the Local. Everything was delicious. We will return again and recommend it to others.
1 year wedding anniversary 🎉
The lobster mac is devine. My husband gets the burger. It’s his favorite. The crispy shrimp are amazing. Great atmosphere.
If you are looking to be part of the younger crowd, ask to be seated upstairs. If you are wanting a historic feel, ask to be seated downstairs. The food is great, staff is knowledgeably and friendly.
Our waiter was great! We had a large party and he did a great job managing everyone's requests.
Always great food & service from our server. Last time, the hostess tried to seat us upstairs directly underneath a large, loud heat & a/c unit. It took a couple of tries to convince her to move us to a better table away from the noise and blasting air. On this visit, she tried to seat us there AGAIN! The room was mostly empty at the time. Those tables should be used only as a last resort.
