There was no heat in our seating area and then even the food arrived under temperature. There shouldn’t be seating allowed if the basic facilities aren’t being met in a portion of the building.
Further, there was not enough staff, but those available were great.
Celebrating my younger son’s birthday with the rest of the family. He chose the restaurant because he loves the lobster Mac and Cheese. We had a wonderful meal, with great service and consider The Local to be one of our favorite restaurants
Food was excellent, second tome back. Everything thing was very good once again! The Local has become one of our favorites!
In a word: wonderful!
The food was great as always. You can get some different foods that are always delicious.
Good food, fast service, and friendly staff. Consistent quality, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
We had a great dinner, but my fiancé had to send his burger back two times for being over cooked. The manager comped the dinner, but everything else we ate was phenomenal! The noise level can be high, but the older building is absolutely beautiful. The service was great as well! We are excited to host our rehearsal dinner at The Local in 2019!
Good food and service, waiter was great.
Fantastic experience, delicious food, great service, highly recommend but make a reservation!!!
Great spot for dinner with friends or date night. Food was great. Our group had the salmon, red snapper and meatloaf and it was all wonderful.
Loved it! Definitely lived up to the hype! Great atmoshere, drinks, and food. Very accommodating for large groups. Happy we were able to make reservations.
Soup of the day- sweet potato- was good. Veggie pasta of the day was remarkably boring. Canned artichoke hearts and a little spinach. No real taste to the pasta or sauce.
No one in our group raved about their food.
First time for us. Recommended by fellow golfers at Lake Monticello. Look 👀 forward to our next visit.
Food and service were excellent, but we were disappointed with the out of date wine list. We ordered a 2009 Brunello and we were brought a 2012 Brunello by the bartender. When I pointed this out, the bartender just shrugged his shoulders and said that’s what they had and that the restaurant doesn’t update its wine list. He did offer to let us order something else, but for the price we felt like the accuracy of the menu shouls be better.
Wonderful meal, good service. The only issue was that they were not ready for us when we arrived for our reservation - short wait, nothing terrible just something to consider.
We've now been to The Local several times & each experience has been good. We ate in the upstairs, more spacious room this time (it does get a bit crowded in the tightly packed, downstairs front room). I had a very good pork dish over black rice & my wife had the short ribs, which she greatly enjoyed. We shared the "banana split" dessert which is a quite large portion; it was also quite good. Despite being busy on a post-basketball game Saturday night, the service was prompt and efficient. The place was typically quite noisy, but it is still worth a try. We recommend you do so.
Outstanding experience -- really wonderful food -- great drinks. Our waiter was very good (sorry, don't remember his name) in that he was quite helpful with menu choices and very honest about likes/dislikes on the menu. We will be back!
We were in town picking up son at college and sales associate at shop recommended The Local for dinner on Friday night. Four of us sat at round table in the window and loved everything from start to finish. Server very attentive, wine delicious, food even better. I enjoyed the Belmont area, which I did not even know existed, and look forward to going back when weather is warmer to sit outside.
My wife and I went for a special date and we ordered 4 different items and all were delicious and left us wanting to come back. We purchased the crispy shrimp which had a sauce you could lick off the plate, pork belly (yum), duck which was perfectly cooked, and ended the night with a brownie sundae w/ coffee. The only thing I would encourage The Local change is to serve a French press of coffee to match the quality of everything else.
Food and service was fantastic. Very crowded and somewhat loud, but a fun scene. We had 8pm reservations on a Saturday night. Most of the specials and a few things from the regular menu were sold out, but there were still good choices remaining. Cocktails were inventive and fun, and the wine list was extensive and interesting. (Although my first choice on that was sold out too!) Fun spot!!
Birthday dinner was a great experience. They were a little rude about us moving tables but the food and service was otherwise outstanding. Ambiance is great
Hostess was clueless. They seated us between two parties of 10-12 and so we wanted to be seated somewhere quieter--she didn't get it. We were reseated eventually, not that it was any quieter in the upstairs way back room. Pork chop was dry.
The cocktail was a real treat and Our meal was delicious. Service was skilled.
Great menu, excellent presentation, attentive staff, great food
We were seated in a detached building which apparently was formerly a beauty shop although no trace of its previous life was evident. Wine racks lined the walls and there was room for about 6 tables. The music playing was at the perfect volume for quiet conversation. Despite being separate, service was excellent. We started with the cheese plate. My wife had the pork chop and I had the gnocchi. Everything was excellent.
The only drawback is parking. The Belmont restaurant scene definitely needs to address this. Even so, we will go again.
Truly negative experience. Ordered the duck and it was raw. One waitress blamed the lighting that made it “look more red.” Another admitted it needed to be cooked more but did not offer to do anything to better the situation. I do not intend to go back and I will recommend my friends and family do not go either.
I simply cannot believe the waitress blamed the lighting instead of being understanding. I left a feedback form with the restaurant but have yet to hear back.
My significant other and I had a wonderful Valentine's dinner here! Good came very quickly, our server was attentive and personable, and the food was wonderful! We got drinks, a pork belly appetizer, beef tenderloin dinner, and flourless cake for dessert. One of the best meals I've had in Charlottesville, and we'll definitely be back.
My wife and I had great meals. I will speak to mine. It was a polenta appetizer that was out of this world. I have eaten polenta many times in the traditional way. This had a Southern twist to it with crawfish, Chorizo, and a poached egg. Fabulous. I then had a small plate of pasta with mushrooms and truffles. The best pasta and truffle dish this side of the Atlantic. Well worth dining there.
We had very high hopes for this restaurant. We had the shrimp as an appetizer and it seemed very undercooked. Also, the pork chop had a lot of fat on it and did not have much flavor.
Recommended by an associate and was pleasently pleased. Meal of braised short ribs was delicious. Would highly recommend to another!
Almost a perfect meal. The pasta special was a bit too salty, but in general the place was wonderful and we would definitely go again. Very reasonably priced and generous portions. I had the acorn squash special. It was wonderful, as was our server.
Great first time at The Local and we weren’t disappointed. Good service. A wide variety of really good food and drinks. We’ll be back!
We had a fabulous dinner. There were three of us and we shared the crispy shrimp appetizer. It was delicious. I had the duck, Chinese style, and it was amazing. My son had trout and my husband beef. We all enjoyed our meals. Our waiter was fantastic- very knowledgable about the dishes. The ambiance was great- only minor complaint was a relatively high noise level. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Charlottesville.
One of the best meals I have had in years. I was happily surprised to find such a great spot with Amazing food. Every bite was over the top with flavor!
Just fantastic!, our waiter was exceptionally attentive to all our needs and requests and kind!
Thank you Chris!
Service was fantastic! Burger was delicious! We will definitely return to The Local.
The Local is easily one of the best restaurants in Charlottesville. The food and service are always top-notch. I usually get steak frites, which are 10/10, but I went with the Timber Creek chicken last time and it has overtaken steak frites for my favorite meal in town. The only problem we had was that this was the first time we have been seated upstairs and the ambience is very different from the quiet, low-key downstairs vibe. It was much louder than we had hoped and it was difficult to hear each other speak, but it was still a great meal and the service was fantastic.
We went to The Local for a nice dinner date. The low-light ambience was romantic and the service was nice enough. The mashed potatoes, ribs, and calamari in particular were cooked and seasoned very well. However, the flank steak was tough and served lukewarm, the fries were obviously deep-fried in old oil, and my date's vegetables weren't cooked through to the point where he needed my steak knife to just cut his carrots. At over $60 for two people, it just wasn't quite the experience I was hoping for.
i gave the food only 3 stars because my meatloaf was tough and dry,I should have ask the waiter exchange it for one made that day,but I didn't want to ruin an otherwise great family meal.your meatloaf is always so moist and a lot better than mine ,it was just a small disappointment that won't deter me from coming.your restaurNt is the only place we dine at when eating out.
