The Lobster Ratings and Reviews
What a fantastic place! We came here for a special evening after it being recommended to us by our hotel concierge. We were worried about it being touristy but we were pleasantly surprised that it was not. Watch the sunset on the beach and make a reservation for 15 mins past the actual sunset and enjoy the stunning colors from the wraparound windows for at least another 30 mins more. We ordered pasta and king crab legs and both were excellent. I was pretty full after and my rule for desert is only if they have something I LOVE will I order desert. And they did. I ordered the berry cobbler and it was so good I came back alone the following night for not one, but two. (LOL). Both our servers were excellent, for dinner we had a gentleman who just had a baby boy (sorry I forgot his name!) and for my dessert I had a sweet brunette who was serving on the patio, I felt like she was my best friend. I’d go back again anytime.
I will start with good part. The lobster and steak are high quality and perfectly cooked. Our waitress was so warm and attended to details. The dining experience was superb.
The receptionist was probably one of the worst I’ve had, especially for a restaurant at the Lobster’s level. When we got there, she kept talking to her colleague for a minute without even looking at us. No smile. No welcome. Just coldly ask my name then leave us waiting for more than 5 minutes. She never talked to us again after that. Not a word. No eye contact. Her colleague led us to the table. When we left, she was by herself at the reception. Again no smile no thank you and no goodbye. Just watching at her screen. So bizarre.
The lobster roll was awesome....so New England. Gerard provided excellent service, competent with great sense of humor. Sitting at the bar is always an experience. A great spot for people watching...the Baratta was excellent. Lobster mashed had less chunks, the lobster corn chowder is delish and plentiful, enough to share. The New Years eve crowd at lunch were so excited to be in LA...added extra volume. We'll be back!!! Happy New Year
Had a great lunch at The Lobster after a morning visiting the pier. The grilled lobster is not to be missed. We ordered a very large one for the table with parm fries and cauliflower. Cauliflower dish was a refreshing surprise. Aaron our waiter was excellent in making recommendations and providing over the top service.
I saw other reviews about this being tourist trap, but my experience was completely to the contrary. We had a 6:00 pm reservation. We we seated quickly at a window seat overlooking the pier, beautiful spot. Our waiter, Mike, was so friendly and professional. He and the other table assistant were wonderful , refilled our tea three times, two sets of hot towels, collected lobster shells, helped with the bibs, better then the Cut or Fig restaurant by far. The grilled lobster was superb, Overall a very pleasant experience.
My father is very finicky with food and prefers to eat at native restaurants. However he loved the lobster chowder. We received our meals very quickly. The service was impeccable. Our server, Sigourney, was lovely and extremely patient with my father who has a very dry sense of humor. I am a vegetarian and frankly, I eat a lot of salads. The wild arugula salad is by far the best salad I have ever had. I loved each ingredient and the flavors worked well together.
Everybody from the host to the server (Aaron) were great! A great restaurant for amazingly fresh seafood, large wine menu and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Try the Calamari and dip it in the vinaigrette sauce and the king salmon. All great! We will definitely be back.
I cannot say enough about our server, Michael W, who was one of the best servers I have ever had. He was knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and attentive. We had a nice view at what must have been the worst possible view from anywhere in the restaurant. I was impressed with even the Lobster Corn Chowder, which was hearty and filling. It was a little pricier than I thought... Open Table listed as a $$$, and I felt like it was a bit closer to $$$$. Maybe that's just because we had lobster ;) I was in town from Chicago and taking a friend for a "goodbye" meal. We will definitely make it a point to visit gain in the future! I hope Michael is there when we do!
My husband and I have been to The Lobster for many special occasions. We are both seafood lovers and really enjoy the sweeping view of Santa Monica Bay. The ambiance is lively and you can go either dressed up or in shorts.
The service is always friendly, attentive, and professional. The seafood choices are interesting, abundant, and always fresh. The food is well-prepared and some dishes really make you tingle, but there are times when it falls just short of exciting.
Overall, it is a neighborhood gem that shouldn't be missed.
Gorgeous ocean and pier views, privileged location for a restaurant and great bar scene to watch people entering and exiting the Pier. Lobster pricey- we expected better value. Very good alternative dishes- Rated service low because of petty host/manager fussiness- Table service excellent.
This was one situation in which the restaurant looked very good on the internet and was so much better in reality. The wait staff is superb and the food excellent. The location is fabulous and I would recommend that diners going during the last daylight hours of the day to appreciate the view.
