The perfect place to impress out of town visitors.
We went for the spiney lobster, it didn't disappoint. The 8 oz size with an appetizer and side of carrots to share was perfect. The waiter Taylor was excellent. He was friendly, knowledgeable about the food and accomadating. The sunset was spectacular.
Service was horrible had to ask bus boy for help with drinks, peppercorn sauce, napkins everything our server never even checked on us! He should have gotten what tip I left!!! And my best friend didn’t even get a birthday dessert yet I was specific in my rsvp and called and left a message!!! And to top of off two birthday desserts passed right by us😑 bartender told us we should have stayed seated at the bar and next time he’ll give us a free drink but not sure we’ll be back...
Amazing food, service and cocktails, right on the beach! It was a little expensive, but well worth it. Would be amazing to have brunch or watch sunsets overlooking the beach and Santa Monica pier.
I was doubtful about this place, thinking it would be very touristy. The food was actually very good. Very pricy, but very good.
I made a reservation for a special birthday dinner but was not advised half of restaurant was booked for a party, which meant no window views. Lobster dinners were great but I specifically told them it was a Birthday occasion and nothing special was done. I talked to our server and he brought out a free dessert. It’s quite expensive but they are very casual here. Next time I’ll spend my almost $400.00 elsewhere.
Great food and service was top notch. The prices are a bit over the top despite the good quality food. A special occasion place but not a regular place.
Seated 20 minutes late, despite the reservation.
Best lobster I’ve ever had. A bit pricey but well worth it for special occasions. Great service.
Drinks were good. Crab cakes had shells. Scallops were iffy. Lobster Chowder was good. Seated us in a back corner overlooking a parking lot. Waitress overlooked us. Bus boys were attentive. Quality vs. Cost would have me not recommend. Outdoor seating had a great view of sunset, if you do go ask for a window facing ocean or pier. No more Open Table guests in a corner!
Another fabulous dining experience at The Lobster! Three friends shared a filet, the lobster special, a couple of sides, and each of us had our own salad, plus dessert and wine. It was perfect!
We enjoyed our special meal for our last night in the USA after a four week holiday. It was a buzzing place despite being 6.30. It was a lovely view as the sun set. The pasta with mixed seafood and the fish and chips were both excellent, as was the Californian rose. The waiter we felt was a bit insincere recommending ‘his favourite dishes’ but was friendly enough. We would recommend the Lobster.
when booking, I asked for a table by the window, it was not turned out when I arrived.then servecies a very slowly , counted one dish twice.
the dishes for these prices were mediocre, but the restaurant has a great view, which is its main advantage
Wife’s birthday. First time at this place. Enjoyed it. Definitely going back!
Overpriced for the food taste/quality and serving sizes.
Definitely for tourists ONLY.
Food was outstanding...especially the tuna entree, soft shell crab and grilled octopus. A great experience!!
The waiter was friendly and helpful. The food was quite tasty. The view was amazing. The crowd was friendly we even made friends with the table next to us. Only downer was that our reservation time was at 9pm and we did not get seated until 9:20pm
Great menu and ambiance. Service impeccable.
Requested a window seat but we didn’t get it even though we arrived little early
But everything was perfect . Went there for birthday and we really enjoyed everything, food was so good and the waitress was pretty nice.
Mom would like to visit there again
The Lobster is the place to go for a special occasion or a special evening or lunch. The food is excellent and though over priced, it is what is expected for high end settings like this in L.A. Very appealing indoor and outdoors bar.
The decor is still very au currant and appealing with large windows everywhere looking upon the city lights and pier, and before dark, the ocean. A big negative for the decor are a slew of some really awful, ugly, counterproductive (to a magical ambience) ceiling lights shaped like donuts with no hole and stuck on fans. The lights are the opposite of candle or pin point lights in that they emit a very dull, flat dark cream sort of light that really cheapens the room. They are what would be found in a cut rate diner or the bargain basement in a cheap store. The fans are a good idea so maybe they could hire someone to bring in a bebe gun to eliminate the lights . I'm available.
Our party was unanimous in praising our dinner. From the atmosphere to the delicious food to the wine, we found no fault. We had the octopus, lobster chowder, fried calamari, crab cakes, salmon, and the magnificent grilled whole lobster--all superb. The chocolate pave dessert truly gilded the lily. All courses perfectly carried out and nicely paced.
As excellent as all of this was, our experience was enhanced by the service provided by Frankie, whose expertise, enthusiasm, warmth, and smooth efficiency made our dinner all the more memorable. He combined a relaxed grace and an intelligent wit with an obvious delight in performing his duties. His gentle suggestions were spot on. This man clearly enjoys his job and interacting with people. Bravo Frankie !
Although we live far away, we were all in agreement that a return visit is extremely desirable.
Excellent. Except for having to wait 15 minutes at the desk for a table. When we got upstairs there must have been more than a dozen open tables.
Then the hostess tried to seat us right next to a loud table of unruly children. Again, there were dozens of open tables.
After that it was amazing but not a good welcome.
Everything were delicious. We love lobster the most.
Sadly, if you are not a Lobster person, the menu selection is not great. I had requested a table by the window, but was not given one. A couple that arrived AFTER my husband and myself got the window table. I am not sure why, but disappointed. Food is good, but you are paying for the view which if you are not at a window table, is nothing special.
We enjoyed having dinner. The wine choice was excellent as was the scallops. Be sure to get a reservation as the location is at the start of the pier.
The place to go for grilled lobster. The ocean and pier view can’t be beat
Always love this place. The food and the view can't be beat!
Delicious seafood menu with wonderful views of the Santa Monica pier. Very popular, so expect a crowd. Tables open regularly, so any wait is likely to be small. Service very good.
Great fresh oysters & mussels. The lobster was perfect and our server Mark was great. The GM William was also very attentive.
Service makes or breaks an experience regardless of the food. Our server (which claims he had been there 17 years) provided us worse service than the local McDonalds. Never checking on us, not refilling water, or asking if my empty cocktail needed replaced. We literally had to wave him down to obtain our bill after waiting for 30 minutes. The table across from us had a different server which checked in often. Moral of the story, this place has good food but make sure you don’t get the server that ‘has been there 17 years.’ If I visit this area again, I won’t be back.
Ad service food was placed wrong
Took over an hour to get our food. Server was very slow and got many things wrong. Just an Over rated restaurant
Outstanding restaurant with an excellent view of the Santa Monica Pier and Ocean
Ogni volta che siamo a Santa Monica in vacanza. Non tralasciamo di cenare al Lobster, ottima cucina e servizio attento. Forse un po' costoso.
Excellent venue with excellent food. Wait staff was very personable.
The Lobster is consistently outstanding on all levels!
Was good but not great. Service was outstanding. We ordered and our food cake out as quickly as it takes a server to walk to the kitchen and back. Obviously, it wasn’t made to order which is a bit disappointing for a restaurant at this level.
We love the location of The Lobster, especially for people visiting Los Angeles and want to experience Santa Monica. The food is always good, but definitely overpriced! Not sure the food is worth the money you spend, but you are also paying for the location/view. The service is always very good as well. The wait staff is always attentive and on it! However, this last visit we requested ketchup & mayonnaise from the person that delivered our food. After approx. 10 minutes we requested from the same person AGAIN. When we were almost done with the meal, our waiter came to check on us and we let him know we were still waiting on the ketchup & mayonnaise - alas it arrived with two bites to go! I did notice The Bar menu this last time and it looks GREAT!!! Really good food at great prices. I will definitely check that out next time!
