Our party was unanimous in praising our dinner. From the atmosphere to the delicious food to the wine, we found no fault. We had the octopus, lobster chowder, fried calamari, crab cakes, salmon, and the magnificent grilled whole lobster--all superb. The chocolate pave dessert truly gilded the lily. All courses perfectly carried out and nicely paced.
As excellent as all of this was, our experience was enhanced by the service provided by Frankie, whose expertise, enthusiasm, warmth, and smooth efficiency made our dinner all the more memorable. He combined a relaxed grace and an intelligent wit with an obvious delight in performing his duties. His gentle suggestions were spot on. This man clearly enjoys his job and interacting with people. Bravo Frankie !
Although we live far away, we were all in agreement that a return visit is extremely desirable.
Excellent. Except for having to wait 15 minutes at the desk for a table. When we got upstairs there must have been more than a dozen open tables.
Then the hostess tried to seat us right next to a loud table of unruly children. Again, there were dozens of open tables.
After that it was amazing but not a good welcome.
Sadly, if you are not a Lobster person, the menu selection is not great. I had requested a table by the window, but was not given one. A couple that arrived AFTER my husband and myself got the window table. I am not sure why, but disappointed. Food is good, but you are paying for the view which if you are not at a window table, is nothing special.
We enjoyed having dinner. The wine choice was excellent as was the scallops. Be sure to get a reservation as the location is at the start of the pier.
The place to go for grilled lobster. The ocean and pier view can’t be beat
Always love this place. The food and the view can't be beat!
Delicious seafood menu with wonderful views of the Santa Monica pier. Very popular, so expect a crowd. Tables open regularly, so any wait is likely to be small. Service very good.
Great fresh oysters & mussels. The lobster was perfect and our server Mark was great. The GM William was also very attentive.
Service makes or breaks an experience regardless of the food. Our server (which claims he had been there 17 years) provided us worse service than the local McDonalds. Never checking on us, not refilling water, or asking if my empty cocktail needed replaced. We literally had to wave him down to obtain our bill after waiting for 30 minutes. The table across from us had a different server which checked in often. Moral of the story, this place has good food but make sure you don’t get the server that ‘has been there 17 years.’ If I visit this area again, I won’t be back.
Ad service food was placed wrong
Took over an hour to get our food. Server was very slow and got many things wrong. Just an Over rated restaurant
Outstanding restaurant with an excellent view of the Santa Monica Pier and Ocean
Ogni volta che siamo a Santa Monica in vacanza. Non tralasciamo di cenare al Lobster, ottima cucina e servizio attento. Forse un po' costoso.
Excellent venue with excellent food. Wait staff was very personable.
The Lobster is consistently outstanding on all levels!
Was good but not great. Service was outstanding. We ordered and our food cake out as quickly as it takes a server to walk to the kitchen and back. Obviously, it wasn’t made to order which is a bit disappointing for a restaurant at this level.
We love the location of The Lobster, especially for people visiting Los Angeles and want to experience Santa Monica. The food is always good, but definitely overpriced! Not sure the food is worth the money you spend, but you are also paying for the location/view. The service is always very good as well. The wait staff is always attentive and on it! However, this last visit we requested ketchup & mayonnaise from the person that delivered our food. After approx. 10 minutes we requested from the same person AGAIN. When we were almost done with the meal, our waiter came to check on us and we let him know we were still waiting on the ketchup & mayonnaise - alas it arrived with two bites to go! I did notice The Bar menu this last time and it looks GREAT!!! Really good food at great prices. I will definitely check that out next time!
Great fun with a beautiful view. Great waiter (wish I could remember her name - we were in a two top near the windows). We just had the Dungeness Crab and Grilled Lobster. Both delicious. Add a couple drinks and we were st $250 but worth it. Great place with a great Santa Monica history
The lobster has a great view of Santa Monica Pier But let’s not forget the amazing food and staff who’s recommendation of entree shaped our outstanding experience
Excellent locale to meet friends at.
Wonderful view, can't beat it...……………..good fresh food and the service we had recently was excellent.
I always take out of towners to the Lobster because the view is exquisite and the food is always good.
Very accommodating. Had a small wait and they gave us 3 complimentary appetizers.
My wife and I had a fantastic experience at The Lobster. From the top-notch customer service to some of the best seafood dishes we've eaten, this restaurant is a 5 out of 5 stars. Compliments to the chef!
Came here for our wedding anniversary. Booked a reservation a month in advance and requested a table next to window. Arrived for our reservation and waited at least 20 minutes for our table. Once we got our table, it was not a window table even though 3 window tables were open when we were seated and we had requested a window seat. Saw other couples seated there awhile after us. Our service was subpar and I feel like we were treated that way. Usually when celebrating a special occasion, we would expect our service to be excellent when asked if celebrating a special occasion. We are not tourists and are locals and unfortunately we will not be returning there for dinner in the future.
First i requested for window table aNd was seated right smack in the middle. Then we were asked whats the occassion and we mentioned its for Birthday and didnt get any special treat (why do they ask in the first place). Food take tooo much time to prepare/cook.
Been going to The Lobster for over 20 years! They have great food and the best service. Can’t wait to go again.
Always a pleasure to visit the Lobster. This was a special daily occasion and we had the jumbo shrimp cocktail, lobster roll, dungeoness crab enchiladas which comes with a very tasty spicy Caesar salad and seared albacore with dungeoness crab fried rice. We requested a special table with the beat view only a few night before and they delivered. Our waiter was fantastically attentive. I recommend the spicy sunset cocktail but go with 100% Mescal.
We were very excited to visit The Lobster at the end of our wedding weekend in LA. My son, daughter-in-law and my new grandson who live in LA joined us in this truly beautiful spot on the beach at the Santa Monica Pier. We were thrilled to get a window seat. The baby was only 4 months old and was overwhelmed by the noise and a big day, and my daughter left early to feed him in the car, but the meal was delicious and the views spectacular. However, when the bill came, we learned that the server had not clearly answered our earlier questions. We had asked about the crab and the lobster, because their prices were listed as "Market". For ex, I asked what the table next to us was eating, and was told "grilled lobster". I asked what that cost, and the server said "38". When we asked what the king crab cost, he clearly said "59 a pound". As I didn't know that that table had split one lobster, and that the price he quoted was per the pound, I thought the price was reasonable.
When my plate came, I asked a different server, the food runner, why my plate looked different than my neighbors. He said that they had "split it". I assumed they had split a $38 meal and went on with the meal.
However, when we got the bill, I was the only one in the party with a main course over $40--my lobster cost $114! When the server returned, he said the lobster cost $38 a pound and that mine was a 3 lb lobster! I was shocked and dismayed as I was not paying for the meal and would never order such as a guest! So I told the server that we were not pleased.
He said that he would have to review this with the manager. After 10 or more minutes he returned and left the bill on the table, saying that the manager could only take an appetizer off the bill.
After another long wait, we asked to speak to the manager.
When he appeared, he apologized for the misunderstanding, and said he had paid for the lobster because he wanted us to be happy and return. Very classy. Thank you Bill.
A polite explanation of the person in charge of service was very easy to understand.
The food and seasoning were also good.
I also want to go again when I visit Santa Monica.
The service is great, but the food was outstanding! It was definitely worth the drive from the San Fernando Valley.
Outstanding. From the service people to the food to the ambiance to the location to the views!!! Truly well done. The lobsters my granddaughter and I had were absolutely delicious!!!
Fish & Chips was wonderful! Calamari delicious. Sat by the window overlooking the Pier and Blue Pacific!
LOCATION.....LOCATION.....LOCATION - the service great, the food a B/B+.....but its not about a foodie heaven, its about good seafood in a spectacular location with a 180 degree view of the Santa Monica coastline. Stay as great as you are!
we had to wait 40 min to get a table despite we had reservation. The food and views were great
Amazing food and service. Went for my bday dinner with my boyfriend and went all out with the American grilled lobster dinners. Would definitely go back!
View and service was outstanding. Food was average at best. Over priced for what we received
It was our 40th wedding anniversary and we were disappointed with our food and service. I ordered the steamed lobster with potatoes and green beans. The lobster was very tough unlike the review said how tender it tasted and the little potatoes were actually burned. My husband had the day boat scallops that had too much charcoals. However the manger did bring another plate of potatoes and they were done right this time. Not sure why the server would bring out burnt potatoes out the first place. And the manger did also brought another less grilled scallops. Overall it was good but we would not come back to The Lobster.
I grew up in Santa Monica and my family frequently dined at the cozy old Lobster in the fifties! It’s much more upscale now but an improvement. The few was fabulous. The steamed lobster was excellent along with the entire meal. Impressed that our Open Table reservation got us a quiet window seat. We live in Ventura County so it was a sentimental journey back to my home town.
