Attentive service and great meal recommendations. This is one of my favorites in LA for a beach location.

Thr Lobster is where you take out-of-town visitors for their quintessential SoCal experience. But The Lobster is great for us locals too, as we experienced today. Food quality is much improved over past years and lunch menu prices were surprisingly affordable, if you steer clear of the scary lobster prices. Always great service and the best view in LA.

The service was excellent. It started with the valet service and ended with a hand shake of one the attentive waiters.

Ambiance: on one hand, nice location for views. On the other, it’s is very loud as a bar area is right next to dining area, with no separation or noise dampening features. There are big tv screens in the bar that are distracting from dining experience. It seems it’s trying to do two things at once. Host a bit of a “scene” at a bar, yet serve food that is not inexpensive with more formal service. Unfortunately it makes the dining ambiance a little less special and more pedestrian.

Food: mixed oyster appetizer very nice. 3 different accompaniments. Though freshly grated horseradish, which I love, seems to belong with the Bloody Mary and not overpowering the delicate oysters.

Cesar salad with kohlrabi sounded good. The greens were tasty. The dressing not that special.

Mussels were perfect.

Steak and lobster. Steak was not served as my companion ordered. Almost “black and blue” instead of medium rare. But the server did take it back and provide a whole new one. 1/2 a lobster with the steak was dry and very small. (What looked like part of a claw and the tail.) Sides were well cooked and fresh.

Pineapple upside down cake desert was warm, not too sweet, served with vanilla ice cream. Delicious.

Cocktail menu interesting with creative choices and the standards.

Service: attentive, but maybe a bit understaffed for wait staff. Plenty of extra help though. Tables bussed promptly. Extra water any time glass was emptied. However bus staff appeared not well trained in timing, taking away one person’s course while other person was still eating.

Overall fairly high priced for what it is but the food is good. You are paying for the view as opposed to the restaurant ambiance and you’ll be surrounded by people of varying levels of sophistication and inebriation. But then again you’re right at the boardwalk so it may be the best there is in this area.

Good for a rambunctious gathering or social business occasion. Not good for a romantic date.

Visited this restaurant for the first time from Austin, Texas. Never had such great lobster in my entire life! Additionally, our server was phenomenal.

Lobster cocktail was the bomb..good portion. Lobster roll for lunch the same. Nice wine list as well. Hard to get in without a Rez....most window seats reserved way ahead. Garlic olive oil and herb spread for the bread was out of this world!! Noisy .
