With soaring ceilings and beautiful surroundings, The Lobby had the potential to be another stuffy hotel restaurant but the friendly staff were attentive without being intrusive and surprisingly funny. The traditional and classic styling is elegant and comfortable. Cocktails were perfectly executed and delicious, as was the food (though if you're vegetarian the options are extremely limited).
We went for a birthday dinner and we had a blast. The music, food and services were incredible.
Definitely get the Chinese Breakfast prix-fixe.
We have been wanting to have tea here. It was delightful. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars for service was the check in with the host was very slow. We waited 15 minutes to be seated despite arriving early. We pointed this out to the assistant manager.
During our tea our waiter was attentive and offered to give us sandwiches to take home when we were finished. With the exception of our initial encounter with the host we had a very positive experience.
Delicious food and impeccable service! A definite treat for a special occasion!
It was a wonderful afternoon. I've never been to afternoon tea, so I have nothing to compare it to. The food was very good but we would have preferred more savory offerings and not as much sweet. We walked out of there with a very strong sugar buzz! The fresh baked scones were excellent! Add more finger sandwiches and less of the sweets. Service was outstanding!
The food was excellent, the service not so much. When we arrived for our 6:30 reservation, the maître d' was with another person so we waited 5 minutes or so. When he finished, he took a phone call and left us standing there another 5 minutes. He knew we were waiting and did acknowledge us, but guests "in person" should always be seated before a phone call. It's business etiquette 101. Service during dinner was fine, until our waiter disappeared for a half hour, leaving us waiting 30 minutes for our bill. The maître d' was busy chatting with a couple at another table and ignored what was happening on the floor. I couldn't get his attention, and finally asked a random waiter if he could get us our bill. Our own waiter had been MIA, but finally appeared with our bill. Ridiculous. Shame on you, Peninsula. Customers deserve much better than this. Not sure if I'll return. The service needs definite improvement.
The Peninsula Lobby is one of the very few restaurants in Chicago where one can dine in a civilized manner without having to shout!
Dining in the pleasant ambiance with the able staff supervised by Chris, the general manager, was a true pleasure. The high quality of food, and the soft piano played were added pleasures.
We were a group of five and all were satisfied with the experience.
Tea was lovely and service attentive. My only complaint was that the sweets were not very good and kind of odd.
Took my mom for afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday (along with my wife, father and 8 year-old daughter). The ambiance was great with a string duet playing in the balcony. My mom loved the tea selection and spent several minutes with the waiter discussing her options. The food was fun and some bites were even quite unique [i.e. Izumi dark chocolate lollipop]. Overall, everyone enjoyed themselves - with the possible exception of my 70 year old dad who thinks such extravagances are generally unwarranted. The only issue I have is that the kid's tea is $40 - which is excessive for cocoa, a slider, mini ham/cheese, pb&j, fruit, veggies, and a few little deserts. My daughter thought it was great ... but it's still too expensive.
According to my wife, this is the best place in town for afternoon tea ... she does tea on a semi-regular basis and is probably a fairly reliable source in this regard.
Decent environment and service, definitely a good place for an afternoon chat with friends... tea is ok, just don’t expect too much on the food...
My husband and I love this place! We became Afternoon Tea fans after a visit to the UK. We made sure to stop at Betty's in York UK for afternoon tea, since they are acclaimed as the Best Afternoon Tea in the UK. Well, we thought this was better! The food and the tea was outstanding. What really made the day was the most delightful service by everyone at the hotel, from the waiters and desk staff, to the valets! Kudos to Chef Dimitri for his amazing pastries! We can't wait to come back!
Brunch food was awesome and service was great! Couldn’t ask for a better Server, top notch and a plus for any brunch,
We had a wonderful experience. We were there celebrating our anniversary and the service was impeccable. I have a very complicated diet due to health issues and the Executive Chef and Head Pastry Chef were AMAZING to work with in creating a custom menu that worked for me. I highly recommend the afternoon tea service!
Amazing service & food
My husband stand and I brought our granddaughters to the tea. The kids tea is not up to par. It comes on a tray not the fun 3 tiers that one expects at a fancy tea. No little tea sandwiches for the kids. There was a burger slider, ham and cheese in the shape of a bear and small p b and J . There were other small treats and gummie bears in a cup. At 39 dollars a kid was not the ambiance that I was expecting. They gave them a toy that was taken out and f the plastic at the table. Would have preferred the true ambiance of the fancy tea without the bear if their cost was an issue.I had to keep jumping up to pour my granddaughter’hot chocolate. We have been to tea at the Plaza with them and that was 3 steps ahead. They had fun but I was disappointed.
The Sunday Brunch was wonderful and something that I'd recommend to friends, but there are some areas that were lacking. Dim Sum and hot prepared foods such as sea bass were disappointing. Who would ever think you'd get mediocre Dim Sum at the Peninsula Hotel, right? And salad selection was a bit boring. But, the cold seafood, sashimi, and dessert stations were quite nice and enough to make me look forward to returning another day. And, the French toast was the best I've ever had. Yum.
This was the most amazing experience on the planet - We had the opportunity to try their chocolate bar experience and it was simply divine. The hot chocolate, cookies and cake were absolutely delicious.
We had a lovely Restaurant Week meal. The space is beautiful and the service was outstanding. The food is very good, though perhaps not as outstanding as the service. All together a wonderful peaceful lunch. We will be back for tea.
Good atmosphere, Highest Hospitality location.
The meal is a original as it is, but the taste is delicious normally.
Wonderful, elegant, sophisticated. The place to go for lunch!
Fantastic food, great service and beautiful ambiance
Wonderful service, excellent food, nice lounge singer, beautiful room!
Lovely afternoon tea!
The service is outstanding. Food is depend on what you order but mostly good
Lunch did not disappoint. Being Restaurant week there was a prix fixed menu. It was a perfect in every way, food and service. The nicest surprise was the ending when the waiter brought me a happy birthday cake.
I have been wanting to go to The Lobby for years and finally made it during
Restaurant Week. The hotel/restaurant is gorgeous. Do not be intimidated by it.
Everyone is welcoming and makes you comfortable. The items on the RW menu were
also on the regular menu, which gave you a sample of what is always offered and what
the chef can do. I was debating between the items on the starter as well as the entree.
The waiter, who was excellent, made recommendations which I took. He was absolutely right.
Everything was perfect. I was fully satisfied yet not stuffed. What a bargain for the items
offered. I will definitely recommend The Lobby and will return. In my years of participating
in RW, I think this ranks as the best in every category.
Awesome staff and great service!
Fabulous view along with great food. I am always surprised by how few dine in this lovely setting with superb service.
The Lobby is an elegant, dignified place to enjoy very good food with excellent service. Located on the fifth floor of The Peninsula Hotel, The Lobby has high ceilings and tables that are nicely spaced apart to allow for private conversation. I look forward to returning on another occasion for lunch, tea, brunch or dinner.
Our late lunch at The Lobby was outstanding! It launched our Restaurant Week experience and all others during these 2 weeks have a very high bar to match. Elegant and comfortable. The service was sublime, as was my husband's Chestnut Risotto. We will definitely head back for special lunches and dinners. Our server, Jose was thoughtful and a charmer. The staff at the hotel is friendly and genuinely wants to help in anyway possible as well.
All the dishes were well executed, and there is a real focus on quality rather than quantity. We went for lunch on Friday during restaurant week, and it was pretty quiet. The only hiccup in service was when our dessert was brought out with the ice cream half melted. We saw dessert being served to another table and know that the ice cream was not meant to be so...
High tea with my granddaughter.
Staff was great accommodating food allergies. Tea was delicious and always.
We can for the coffee bar. There was a large assortment of chocolates, macaroons, parfaits and choices of hot chocolate and coffees. But the price was a bit high.
Classy atmosphere and superb service. Excellent food and tea selections. Highly recommend it for tea lovers.
What a lovely afternoon tea, exquisite food, beautiful decoration, and impeccable services!
I booked an afternoon tea at the lobby restaurant at the Peninsula Hotel, Chicago on the New Year's Day. Though it is somehow expensive , the whole experience is wonderful.
Mind blowing! 😍✨
It was beautiful! We had afternoon tea on Dec 30th and it was amazing to see the tree all lit up and decorated. The staff was very nice, overall an excellent experience.
