This is one of my favorite locations in the city. High ceiling. Tables were very spaced out. Lightly attended. Only 4 tables with occupants when o was there.

Had the Tandoori Chicken and it was delightful.

The only problem we encountered was being seated. We had a reservation and was asked to wait because our table was not ready when we arrived. On top of that our reservation for a table by the windows away from others were not fulfilled, in spite that I had called ahead upon the reservation 2 weeks prior as well as 2 days before. The host was nice and patient, and solved it by giving us another table and promising not to seat anyone next to us. Whoever seats guests should adhere to reservations and not give away tables to others that walk in. Another host, halfway through our tea, seated someone at the table next to us, in spite that his colleagues had promised us not to do so. The tables may be 6 ft apart but the chairs were just 2-3 ft apart. That is very unsettling and not to the standard of the Peninsula.
The positives were that the waiter, I think his name was Francisco, was the most outstanding waiter we have had in years here in Chicago. He was so attentive and on top of everything. He was aware of our food allergies and told us the kitchen already had prepared afternoon tea for us that was free of any of our allergens. He took extra precautions, he was attentive, friendly, serviceminded checked on us regularly but not too much and super kind. We were all so impressed with him that we made my husband give him the biggest % tip he has ever given. The waiter made up for the bad start of the afternoon with his kind professional service, but I can only give 4 stars because they did not adhere to 6ft safety standards and put us in an uncomfortable situation.

The Peninsula was not ready with our table. The seats were dirty with crumbs. We didn’t get recognized for the fact it was a birthday even though it was written in the reservation. After getting our tea and food we were immediately told that this was last call when the options for tea were 2:30 and 4:30 pm. If you were going to rush us then why is there a 4:30 pm seating? This is expensive and I think we should have been treated better. The Drake tea does a way better job!

Please bring back the soufflé
I used to come and bring many of my staff several tile a months
I come for the passion fruit soufflé that you had for over 10 years
I brought guests from Australia the UK and all over the US at least 100 times for the soufflé

Stopped in for a late breakfast and the food was impeccable. The steel cut oatmeal along with the sides of sliced bananas, mixed berries, assorted dried fruit/nut mix, and chicken sausage were all delicious. The only con was that service was slow despite not being very busy on a late Saturday morning during a pandemic. Other than that, I’m looking forward to my next visit.

My only complaint is that the room is so big, it was sometimes difficult to get the attention of a server. But, the ambiance is unparalleled and as somewhere to be able to have a quiet conversation with really good and varied food offerings

The recently raised price of afternoon tea is extreme considering the service and food provided. I have been to the Peninsula many times before and even when they raised it to $70+ it was fair for the experience. Now at $85+!!!!! far from it. The ambiance has changed along with the decor which makes you feel like you are at ANY other hotel, not THE Peninsula!! Service was excellent.
I would not return or recommend tea here again. Priced too exorbitantly and not special enough to warrant the cost.

One of the better afternoon teas I've had in the US - but the scones... Massive disappointment. The tea, champagne, sandwiches, cakes were lovely, but I don't know how the chefs thought they had any resemblance towards an actual scone. And with sugar on top, they crumbled to bits...

The teas were not really any different than making them in your own home, the “strongest” tea recommended by the server was quite mild. Sandwiches were just ok. Portion sizes were small which is ok, but the server should have checked in on us more frequently for refills. He didn’t come check on us unless we looked out for him and called him.

Our family visits every Valentines weekend. We always e joy the chocolate bar. The desserts are as delicious as they decadently decorated. Always a beautiful & elegant family evening. We’d like to enjoy more frequently but the cost prevents us. I honestly wish the cost was a little less so we could enjoy more frequently. But overall wonderful experience.

I love coming to The Lobby for my meals
Service most of the time is impeccable not today in am. Waiter showed once but had time chatting for minutes with staff before he arrived to offer coffee.
Coffee was horrible too acidic and bitter.
My omelette was just OK.
Dinner staff is much nicer, more attentive and food is well prepared.

I don’t usually write reviews for restaurants but this one deserves it. So, I’m going to make it brief about the food and the service. I’ve attached few photos of the food — looks very dull, dry and unappetizing. So, I went to Sunday brunch and I was very disappointed. The food was mediocre. The presentation was dull. The host seems like doesn’t want to work - no smile, no good morning (basic) not very welcoming. The waiter, comes by and disappears. Never introduced himself. I have to ask for coffee, champagne and sparkling water. Terrible. I’ve stayed in five stars hotels in the world and dined in Michelin stars restaurants. Chicago Peninsula was a total disappointment. I will never come back.

Specifically came for the chocolate bar.... which they do not offer in January or February until after Valentine’s Day, apparently. No mention on the website. Food was well prepared and tasty but very overpriced. Service was professional and super friendly, but not very attentive. Appreciate a relaxing meal, but there is a difference between not being rushed and not being attended to for 20 minutes at a time for anything such as drink refills etc... overall a let down for spending so much.

Service is very slow, but food is good. We were there for almost 2 hours (4 of us) and the Lobby wasn’t busy, 40-50% of tables were empty. It might’ve been slow because there was an event happening.

Wonderful Saturday lunch with hubs during restaurant week. We ordered the butternut squash soup and kale salad, the short ribs and chicken sandwich and the deserts. Also the penninsular chai tea for the table. Loved every bite. Service was exceptional. Light piano playing in the background. Romantic even for a lunch.

We had a great time! This is one of the only places with a vegan high tea in town, and the selection was delicious. My friend loved it and was happy to celebrate her birthday there. The live music was feast too!
