The teas were not really any different than making them in your own home, the “strongest” tea recommended by the server was quite mild. Sandwiches were just ok. Portion sizes were small which is ok, but the server should have checked in on us more frequently for refills. He didn’t come check on us unless we looked out for him and called him.

Our family visits every Valentines weekend. We always e joy the chocolate bar. The desserts are as delicious as they decadently decorated. Always a beautiful & elegant family evening. We’d like to enjoy more frequently but the cost prevents us. I honestly wish the cost was a little less so we could enjoy more frequently. But overall wonderful experience.

I love coming to The Lobby for my meals
Service most of the time is impeccable not today in am. Waiter showed once but had time chatting for minutes with staff before he arrived to offer coffee.
Coffee was horrible too acidic and bitter.
My omelette was just OK.
Dinner staff is much nicer, more attentive and food is well prepared.

I don’t usually write reviews for restaurants but this one deserves it. So, I’m going to make it brief about the food and the service. I’ve attached few photos of the food — looks very dull, dry and unappetizing. So, I went to Sunday brunch and I was very disappointed. The food was mediocre. The presentation was dull. The host seems like doesn’t want to work - no smile, no good morning (basic) not very welcoming. The waiter, comes by and disappears. Never introduced himself. I have to ask for coffee, champagne and sparkling water. Terrible. I’ve stayed in five stars hotels in the world and dined in Michelin stars restaurants. Chicago Peninsula was a total disappointment. I will never come back.

Specifically came for the chocolate bar.... which they do not offer in January or February until after Valentine’s Day, apparently. No mention on the website. Food was well prepared and tasty but very overpriced. Service was professional and super friendly, but not very attentive. Appreciate a relaxing meal, but there is a difference between not being rushed and not being attended to for 20 minutes at a time for anything such as drink refills etc... overall a let down for spending so much.

Service is very slow, but food is good. We were there for almost 2 hours (4 of us) and the Lobby wasn’t busy, 40-50% of tables were empty. It might’ve been slow because there was an event happening.

Wonderful Saturday lunch with hubs during restaurant week. We ordered the butternut squash soup and kale salad, the short ribs and chicken sandwich and the deserts. Also the penninsular chai tea for the table. Loved every bite. Service was exceptional. Light piano playing in the background. Romantic even for a lunch.

We had a great time! This is one of the only places with a vegan high tea in town, and the selection was delicious. My friend loved it and was happy to celebrate her birthday there. The live music was feast too!

I ate at The Lobby two years ago during Restaurant Week and was so pleased with everything about it. This time they have changed the entire menu (from a slightly Asian flavor) and emphasis. Perhaps this more American fare is what their customers want. But I went there expecting something special that fits the decor, which is lovely. Now it is more like a place to get a burger!
The service was so-so. We had not even finished our starters when the second course arrived. This does not happen in a first class restaurant that is paying attention to its patrons. We asked the waiter to return the food once we were finished with the starters. He did, but of course all they did was keep the food warm and as a result the food had dried out.
We had asked for separate checks but we were given one and she had to correct that.
Overall, the experience was such a disappointment.
It does not live up to its decor or reputation.
I hope they make improvements.

We have been enjoying the Sunday brunch buffet for years. Still great but have raised price from $75 per person first to $95 and now $125 over a year or so. $75 was not inexpensive but a 2'/3 rise is ridiculous. Love thj place food etc but will take it off our list

I always enjoy The Lobby for afternoon tea. The service was great and very attentive. The price for the Chinese New Year tea was a little pricey. Last year there was a choice for sweets, savories, scones, or the complete set. Champagne was an extra charge, but this year there was just one price which included all the food and champaign. For those of us who don't drink alcohol, it was a little pricey. Next year can you break down the price without the champaign? My kids had the full afternoon set and are too young to drink, so I felt like we paid a lot of extra money for three people who didn't drink champaign.

This was the best high tea experience I have ever had! The ambiance was wonderful, the food was terrific, and the service was impeccable! The staff was very accommodating of my allergy to gluten, and they even brought out a special surprise for my friend because we were celebrating her birthday. I assure you that having high tea served with champagne in the beautiful Peninsula Lobby as a violinist and cellist play from a balcony above you is an experience you will never forget!

Celebrated my birthday here (also treated my aunt and her son, too)! We had an excellent experience here! Both my aunt and I had brunch here at least a handful of times about 12-15 years ago, so we were not surprised that the food has remained exponentially magnificent all these years! We loved the great variety (like the inclusion of various dim sum and sushi), the super high-end options like the ribeye, roast duck, truffled eggs Benedict, crab legs), plus the various salmon options, flavorful and plentiful vegetable options, gi-normous dessert selection (that table could’ve had its own zip code)! Plus, Annie our server, along with the 2 hostesses, were all so wonderfully charming, professional, efficient and knowledgeable! The airy, ethereal and elegant ambience were also breathtaking to behold! Loved that there was an ice rink just outside The Lobby too!

Was looking forward to afternoon tea, I live in the city and always heard great things. However, I was disappointed. The tea itself and service was fantastic, but the food left something to be desired. When I booked, there was no notice or call about holiday pricing so that was a surprise when we sat down. The extra cost, for what seemed like just a glass of champagne, left a sour taste in our mouth. When going with someone who cannot drink (for medication purposes), we were allowed to swap for sparking cider. The price did not decrease. Overall, the holiday pricing could have been more transparent. The food could have been better. Our server was nothing but exceptional and did his best with our displeasure about the meal.

Afternoon tea was a huge let down. Very basic tea selection, mediocre food and very nice, but slow and inattentive service. Check in was awkward and frustrating. We were waiting in a make shift line in the hall opposite the dining area. There were several parties waiting to be seated and no one knew what was going on as the hosts never communicated a word to us. For $100/person, I expected a lot more. We have done afternoon tea all over the city. Won’t be returning here in the future.

We sat for 10 minutes before anyone came and filled our water glasses. My cousin ordered the Tandoori Chicken and received the Chicken sandwich, she was so disappointed but the server said she would have to wait another 20 minutes or so to change the order, do you think they would have credited it? Our water glasses were never replenished until we asked for it, no one stopped again to see if we wanted anything else. We had to wave a server down to order a round of drinks. Definetaly not worth the cost....drinks were way too expensive for poor service.

We attended the Lobby for a late lunch during the holiday. The service was quite poor as they were very focused on setting up the high tea service. When we were sat we were not given any napkins or silverware. None of the staff would even make eye contact so I ended up getting up to get my own silverware for the table so we could eat. They did take our dessert off the bill to apologize, but it was a very expensive lunch for such poor service throughout the meal.

Poor service on Christmas Eve morning. Food quality was not what we would have expected. Loved being guests of the Peninsula Hotel though.

Of course, the holiday decor (and carolers) are SPECTACULAR but for the price, they sure make this a tough place to love and frequent often. They were out of my first two champagne selections, the host clearly did not read the notes in my reservation (this has happened before, too) requesting a high chair which we then had to wait for while clutching my niece. There was no offer to check all of our bags nor get them out of the way. No manager visit, never addressed by name - it just wasn't what I expect from a luxe meal at a Peninsula restaurant.
