Very surprised by this last minute open table destination. Kind of place you would see tucked away in alley street in NYC/Chicago. Excellent burger/salads/appetizers.
Will go back for sure
It's a nice, casual spot for 2-5 people. Nothing too fancy. The prices are on the higher side. Food is pretty good too.
My husband and I were both craving a good burger and a beer. So we tried the little and were not disappointed. We both enjoyed our burgers and the fries were perfectly crispy! We asked for extra crispy fries. The only small improvement that could have been added to burger was if it was a little pink in the middle. Next time we will ask for the burger to be cooked a little more medium. We will be back!
We've dined at this restaurant several times with friends on a Friday night. The atmosphere is cozy and usually the "comfort" food is tasty. This time we were disappointed with the food. The burger was dry, bland and over fried. The Caesar salad was tasteless and soggy. It's a cute venue so I hope the food improves!
I took my boyfriend out on a date on Friday and we had another couple join us. I wanted to bring him somewhere new, and was pleasantly surprised when I came across The Little online. When we arrived we were shocked that such a cute place was nestled on Lonsdale and neither of us had ever seen it (we live 2 blocks away.) Unfortunately the food took an hour and 20 minutes to come out, and we couldn't enjoy it properly as we had plans to see a movie and had to rush. The food was quite good, but I really wish out of respect the waiter/restaurant would advise us that the kitchen was backed up. The restaurant wasn't full so I'm not sure if this was the case, or if it was just because the kitchen is small (either way we should have been advised.) One more suggestion: the sensor light next door on the back patio is very distracting if you're facing towards the restaurant - would be great if you could block it somehow.
Service was slow....... My wife makes better food for dinner on nights we only have 30 min to make dinner
Awesome burger and fries, excellent patio and service!
Not great. They were out of the drink my husband ordered, and out of the mussels he ordered. The food we did get was good, and our server discounted our bill, but we also had to ask for silverware after our meal had come. Not the anniversary dinner i had hoped for.
Server was unfriendly and inattentive. Food took a long time to come out even though the restaurant was quite empty. We were unpleasantly surprised with a 18% auto gratuity for our large group of 7 - this wasn't mentioned anywhere and the service didn't even warrant a 10% tip. I usually like this place but our last experience was terrible!
Fabulous dinner - deep fried pickles were amazing. Food was fresh, huge portions and delicious. Room is small, but our group was pretty noisy so we didn't mind! Service was 11 out of 10. Will definitely be back.
Delicious food. Openness to special requests.
I have eaten at Little District MANY times since it opened and recommended it to a lot of people too. I have suggested, before, that since your appie prices went up, it would be nice to have a change in the appie menu, but, does not seem to be happening. Ordered the Chorizo sausage and got it uncooked. I knew It was smoked so ate it anyway. When I told your chef he said he did not know why it was not cooked. Really? Glad I did not send it back.
We decided to sit on the small deck at the back of the restaurant. Enjoyed our conversation as well as the comfort food. The server(s) were very pleasant throughout our dinner stay. Good fun!
We love District so going to the Little is just a smaller version of a great restaurant.
One of my favourite places to go ... although I think it might be time to change your appies menu a bit since the price has gone up. Other than that, you guys are doing a great job.
For such a small place (with a teeny kitchen) they have too much food on their menu. I think if they paired it down a bit, they may be more successful. Either way, the food that we ordered was great. We got the prawns tacos and the fish tacos and they tasted great though unfortunately were on a flour tortilla (server told us they were on corn). A girl we were with has a sensitivity and was unable to eat them "as a taco". No one was disappointed with the food, but it did take a very long time to get, even after asking for a rush as we were pressed for time. They were very kind to give us a discount for the food taking so long.
I would like to give this place another try not being in a rush and see how they handle everything.
We enjoyed some of the food, but the room is very cramped, resulting in tables being extremely close together with no privacy. There were obviously in a hurry to have us get through our dinner so they could seat the next guests.
We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing and laid back vibe at the Little restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised with the happy hour selection of 3$ drinks and small plates (available 3 to 6pm). What a great way to sample several items on the menu! The proximity of the tables adds a sweet community feel but it's not for everyone...
All male servers last night - great change from the cliché of the big chain restaurants.
This restaurant is a block from our home. We go there often with friends and normally enjoy their fabulous burgers, fried oysters and fish & chips. There are other delicious items on the menu as well.
I definitely recommend this restaurant!
I went to this place three times within five days... I think that says enough! Couldn't get enough of the Cajun prawns and 16 buck chuck burger.
I reserved on Open Table for 11:30.
The staff didn't know about our reservation and were surprised that we had an 11:30 reservation as they only open at 12. However they were very gracious and served us with no issue.
The information online needs to be fixed.
I have been before and enjoyed everything. This time, the food was good but service mediocre. Server competent but not great - if we had questions she shouted them to the kitchen. We weren't far from the kitchen and the restaurant was quiet so not sure why she did that. Sort of a "sneery" facial expression a few times. Not sure if she was having a bad day but not great experience. I'd go again but if get service like that twice, will cross off my list.
My only issue with The Little is that they weren't able to accommodate my seafood allergy like most restaurants can and so I wasn't able to order anything fried in their deep fryers because they also fry seafood in the same oil. This is generally a sign of a low quality restaurant. Some restaurants will find ways to accommodate, like emptying out the oil and cleaning the basket to prepare my fries (oil which they can then continue with for everything else they fry that evening), but not The Little. In fairness to them, small neighbourhood restaurants aren't as well equipped to accommodate as are more sophisticated restaurants, but it's nevertheless disappointing.
A small place tucked into a neighborhood with a lot of building going on. Well executed and flavorful twists on Southern pub stables like chicken and waffles, fried pickles and oyster po-boys.
We decided to try this restaurant, as every Friday we try and find new one places to try on the north shore. I found the little on a website that had huge reviews. We booked a reservation for May 15,2015.
We found the restaurant very tight. Tables packed very tight together. We could hear word for word our neighbors on both sides conversations.
Other than feeling like a sardine can, the place was amazing. Food was awesome. I ordered a 16 buck chuck and my girlfriend ordered the small chicken and waffles. We started with the boneless demon wings. Wow if you like hot wings these are a must try. Messy and hot!the burger was imenese and I was completely full after eating the burger. My girlfriend had chicken and waffles, she took about 1/3 of it home for lunch the next day.
Overall an amazing place and will be back again.
Wonderful liittle place on the north shore and very accessible. Great service and great food. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Delightful neighbourhood pub with very friendly, attentive staff. A good casual menu although we ate lightly on our first visit with each of us having a salad. The drink list has some gems. And, it is all fairly priced. It is a great addition to the neighbour hood and we will be coming back soon.
Have been going here a few times, service and food has always been great... will continue to go in the future
Always a great lunch spot with good wine (even the mystery cheap reds). Little Cobb salad was my choice and oysters my husbands preference. All good.
I have been here a couple times and the food has been great every time. Their boneless wings, chicken & waffles and beef marrow were all spectacular.
A lunchtime favorite. My husband added the oysters to the quinoa salad - yum! My Cobb salad was so fresh and delicious too. We love the chefs and wait staff - always so happy!
Hi, I'm not a frequent reviewer for the restaurants I attend, but I did enjoy a nice dinner on the back patio at the Little District. It was a quiet Sunday night so things were not that busy, allowing our group of 6 to be seated at the back away from the kitchen and the inner noise.
The back patio is nice, although the tables are too low for the chairs, so we felt like we were hunched over our food. The kitchen kindly let my elderly folks split a meal but didn't serve it separately for them, even when asked. Water arrived right away, and the service was attentive and overall acceptable. Food was served hot and tasty, with perfectly cooked fries. I had the fish tacos, and the fish and chips for my kids who both thought they were great.
Was just ok. Wine list not the greatest. Our table was right across from the dishwashing station and light fixtures full of dust.
has excellent food in attractive surroundings, with good service - and I am very lucky to be able to walk there !
A cool little place, personally love the tasty Southern-focused cuisine but a couple of issues that will keep us from returning - drinks very booze focussed, could get a soft drink or water but that's all. I don't always want an alcoholic drink, especially at lunch, and the offerings seemed to push you to booze (server said as much). Also, no gluten-free options other than a salad - my partner is celiac so no GF options a fatal flaw. If you at least had a GF bun she could enjoy the burger and we'd be back.
Third visit to The Little District. Didn't realize it was TastingPlatesYVR night, so was surprised that we managed a resso only 2 hours in advance. After a significant we finally had to ask for menus and drinks, but service was attentive after that. Things were pretty crazy with Tasters coming and going every 15 minutes or so, but very lively and fun atmosphere. Our fish fritters, fries and Cobb salads were excellent as usual. Next time we might even share the Cobb instead of ordering one each - it's size large. All salad ingredients were fresh and tasty (excellent bacon!) with dressing served on the side. My virgin Mohito was delicious; husband tried the special $2.50 glass of smoky bacon lager, but declined a second.
Good food and vibe. Painfully slow service -- for everything. It took ten minutes to even be greeted by a server. The place was not busy, so I can't imagine what it would be like on a prime night. That's too bad because the north shore really needs more hip modern places like this seemed to be -- and still could be if they could solve the service part of their operation.
Our group of 6 went for the bourbon celebration last weekend. The food and drinks were good, as was the atmosphere. Pulled pork was on special; it was very tasty but I thought they could have piled more meat on the bun. As the meals appeal particularly to men, big portions are a must! The service was very friendly but a bit slow. Our fellow forgot a couple of things but brought them right away when we inquired. We liked the open kitchen and funky atmosphere. Nice that they had the World Cup game projected on the wall for those hard core sports fans. We will be back for sure!
This was our first time to go to that delightful restaurant for lunch.
It was a beatiful day and we sat at the back outside.
The food was great as was the service.
My friends and I will certainly be back.
We were sat quickly, but weren't acknowledged again for over 20 minutes despite our attempts to get the servers attention. As we started looking up other restaurants to go to instead, the bartender finally noticed we hadn't been seen and took our order.
The food took an incredibly long to come out, and when we eventually got our mains I was dismayed to find mine was soggy and inedible. Of course, no one came back to check how our food was so I didn't have the opportunity to let them know, and ended up paying $12 for something I hardly ate.
Staff seemed nice, but there were two few of them schedule (3 in total on a busy Sunday - 1 who didn't seem to do anything) and I don't think the kitchen was equipped to deal with the incoming orders.
