The Lion's Share Ratings and Reviews
The Antelope Sliders, Charcuterie platter, grilled pumpkin, federal house stamp cocktail and the cauliflower were outstanding, the pumpkin spice bread pudding, rabbit hand pie, and pork belly were very good. The service was excellent. The ambience is unusual and loud. A bit too loud. Overall excellent.
Huge disappointment. Service was non-existent. We waited a long time before we were even greeted then after placing orders waited an hour to receive our appetizers. We had to work to get our waiter over to order drinks for dinner.
Major letdown on a rare date night.
The food is excellent with a fun and interesting atmosphere. This may be our favorite restaurant downtown. A little weird and quirky as you’ll see. My husband loves the Elk steak although on our last visit it wasnt as good as the previous time but, I’m sure it was a one time thing everything else we had was fabulous! Give it a try you won’t regret it.
The Lions Share is quite possibly the best dinner I've had in a long time. Everything was absolutely awesome. I had the rabbit sausage which was really good, the bison tartare which was awesome and the hanger steak which was spectacular. The chef was 100% spit on cooking my steak blue the way I ordered it. I also had cocktails that were off the menu and paired amazing with each course. My server Maria was absolutely amazing. She listened and made my experiences The Lions Share perfect. I will drive back to San Diego just to have dinner at the Lions Share.
We had business partners visiting the West Coast from Japan. Our COO made a special trip from our HQ in CO to take them to dinner while they were in San Diego. Based on reviews, we thought Lion's Share would be a good choice. The restaurant's proximity to our partners' hotel was convenient - right downtown and easy to find. The menu was interesting; everything tasted great and the drinks were imaginative! The server was attentive and knowledgeable - happy to make recommendations. The food and drinks were great, no complaints there. But for a traditional "business meeting dinner," I was told this restaurant would be better suited for an informal gathering/celebration of friends/colleagues - a fun place to decompress (as opposed to a focused business meeting).
Our waiter was fantastic and all the food was very good. We did think that the hare handpie was very small as a meal and for the price. It would be okay as an appetizer size. We enjoyed the cocktails and happy our hour choices. In fact the rabbit sausage was very good. The seating was not the most comfortable and our table of four was placed right in the entrance passage way so everyone who walked in had to pass right next to our table. We asked to be moved and they said they could not accommodate us although no one was seated in the other tables when we were there.
Looking for a different dining experience we chose The Lion's Share..and were very impressed with the quality of food and drink.
The craft cocktails were delicious - try the cucumber gimlet for a refreshing sip.
for dinner our choices were:
Antelope sliders with truffle fries, Roasted Jidori Chicken, and the Wild Style Burger - ALL delicious and worth every calorie!
We ended with a shared chocolate dessert - which we referred to as "death by chocolate" - a dark chocolate fudgy layer topped with a light chocolate whipped cream - YUM!
Definitely worth the stop and bonus that it was just steps away from the Grand Hyatt - Manchester where we were staying!
I had dinner with my nephew and his girlfriend so we could participate in San Diego Restaurant Week and to celebrate my 40th birthday. The drinks were fantastic. The food was delicious. And the dessert was divine. My three courses were the Boar Sausage Poutine, Grilled Hanger Steak and the Bread Pudding for dessert. I wholeheartedly recommend all three--so deliciously satisfying. It made a perfect ending to my weekend. I plan on dining here again and/or meeting some friend for happy hour, since the drinks menu was fabulous.
I asked my husband to take me to The Lion's Share to celebrate my birthday. This was our second time dining there and it was even better than the first time. The menu is unique and the handcrafted cocktails are really good. They also have a drink created monthly where all the proceeds go to charity. Our server for the evening was Katie and she is exceptional. Thank you for making my special day even more special.
We went to the Lion Share for our 19th Wedding Aniversary. They had champagne already for our toast and the service was Amazing! We both loved the food and cocktails. You could tell the quality of the food and people. Highly recommend the Lion Share, the Elk.Steak was amazing! I will be back soon I hope. Wat here before you die!
We were on our way to a different location when we saw The Lion's Share and commented that it looked really nice. Our Uber driver said, "It's fantastic, and they serve dishes you don't find everywhere." I quickly found the menu and immediately cancelled our prior reservation. I'm still counting my lucky stars. We had incredible (read: superb) service that included helpful and friendly suggestions on the restaurant's menu and other favorite local places to go during our trip. We ate and drank slowly for 2 hours and enjoyed: wonderful mint cocktails, local beer, excellent wine, dishes including everything from tuna to an amazing meat/cheese board to foie gras to rabbit to antelope. Nothing disappointed, especially our server. This place is absolutely killing the game--pun intended.
Amazing drinks and great ambiance. Did not like how they kick you out of the table because there is another reservation booked. Our party was not done ordering. We actually skipped dessert because they were only giving us 15 minutes to order, eat it and pay. Best to just get a spot at the bar so the staff can leave you alone.
We are neighborhood regulars at Lion's Share. Service is always excellent thanks to Lauren, Josh, and Kayley. And they are always happy to accommodate our pesky requests for our meal (everything on the side, etc.). Meggan is a great hostess who tries to give us the table(s) we request! Great restaurant! Just dropped in on a recommendation. Claim to fame is the craft cocktails. So yes, they do have craft cocktails, but I am not necessarily a fan. The atmosphere was nice and the service was fine. However, I have been to craft cocktail establishments and this is just not as good in my opinion. If in the area, I may try it again to see if some of their other drinks were better but the ones that we had were just ok and not distinguishable.
