I came here for my birthday celebration and it was well worth the drive from Carlsbad. I loved the ambience and energy of the staff and customers. The drinks were definitely different, strong but not too strong. The food was eclectic but good.
I would come back for happy hour one day!
Ambiance was great! As for the rest of our 'date night' experience--a little underwhelming. Tables around us that arrived after us were served first. Once the food arrived, my hangar steak was not cooked how I ordered it.
Not the worst restaurant experience I've ever had, but I don't see myself going back here.
Since moving downtown we have visited Lions Share several times. Some menu items change frequently but the main items remain available. The food is delicious. The drinks are outstanding. If you make it order the bread pudding. It changes based on the season.
The physical space and decor was quirky and charming—strong point for the establishment. Non-alcoholic cocktail was lovely—crisp, light, tangy (ginger, lime, butters). Arugula salad was lovely with well balanced flavors. Boar poutine was not poutine—there were no cheese curds, just melted cheese and meat sauce over French fries. Acceptable flavors but nothing special. Sticky toffee pudding was terrible—toffee was burnt, cake was dry. Our server was warm and helpful. She offered to (and did) remove the dessert from our bill.
Great find. Our table started with the Federal Buffalo Stamp, a craft cocktail made with bourbon, lemon juice, ginger root, and maple. It even comes with a ginger candy garnish. We had 4:30 reservations because we were going to a show at the SD Civic Theater. Anyway since we were there early, happy hour was in effect. Our drinks were only $6! Awesome. Also enjoyed the Antelope Sliders and Blue Cheese Bruschetta (also on happy hour). For dinner two of us had the Grilled Hanger Steak with a bone marrow bernaise sauce. Cooked to perfection. It just melted in your mouth. My wife had the Roasted Chicken with carmelized fennel, polenta, and a spinach puree. She loved it. My friends wife had the Coffee rubbed Elk Loin with brussel sprouts and red wine reduction. She polished it off wanting more. Great eclectic restaurant with a cool English Pub feel.
We had family come in the week for Christmas and we wanted to try something different. The menu here is different and we tried a variety of items including Wild Boar Ragu, Antelope sliders, caramelized cauliflower which were all good. However, the Coffee-Rubbed Elk Loin had a nice flavor however one of the entrees, two people had it, was all fat and not edible.
The cocktail menu was interesting and they did a nice job with them.
We visit Lions Share once a year during the AVMA conference in December. It is our favorite place to catch up with friends, enjoy great cocktails and great food. Always ask your waiter or bartender for their recommendations on cocktails, I’ve never been disappointed.
I thought this was a gem for wonderfully cooked game meat. The waitress gave excellent recommendations and was friendly and attentive. One could carry on a meaningful conversation because the normal noise level was low. The Cozy dark wood Ambience also helped
The Antelope Sliders, Charcuterie platter, grilled pumpkin, federal house stamp cocktail and the cauliflower were outstanding, the pumpkin spice bread pudding, rabbit hand pie, and pork belly were very good. The service was excellent. The ambience is unusual and loud. A bit too loud. Overall excellent.
Huge disappointment. Service was non-existent. We waited a long time before we were even greeted then after placing orders waited an hour to receive our appetizers. We had to work to get our waiter over to order drinks for dinner.
Major letdown on a rare date night.
The food is excellent with a fun and interesting atmosphere. This may be our favorite restaurant downtown. A little weird and quirky as you’ll see. My husband loves the Elk steak although on our last visit it wasnt as good as the previous time but, I’m sure it was a one time thing everything else we had was fabulous! Give it a try you won’t regret it.
The Lions Share is quite possibly the best dinner I've had in a long time. Everything was absolutely awesome. I had the rabbit sausage which was really good, the bison tartare which was awesome and the hanger steak which was spectacular. The chef was 100% spit on cooking my steak blue the way I ordered it. I also had cocktails that were off the menu and paired amazing with each course. My server Maria was absolutely amazing. She listened and made my experiences The Lions Share perfect. I will drive back to San Diego just to have dinner at the Lions Share.
We had business partners visiting the West Coast from Japan. Our COO made a special trip from our HQ in CO to take them to dinner while they were in San Diego. Based on reviews, we thought Lion's Share would be a good choice. The restaurant's proximity to our partners' hotel was convenient - right downtown and easy to find. The menu was interesting; everything tasted great and the drinks were imaginative! The server was attentive and knowledgeable - happy to make recommendations. The food and drinks were great, no complaints there. But for a traditional "business meeting dinner," I was told this restaurant would be better suited for an informal gathering/celebration of friends/colleagues - a fun place to decompress (as opposed to a focused business meeting).
Our waiter was fantastic and all the food was very good. We did think that the hare handpie was very small as a meal and for the price. It would be okay as an appetizer size. We enjoyed the cocktails and happy our hour choices. In fact the rabbit sausage was very good. The seating was not the most comfortable and our table of four was placed right in the entrance passage way so everyone who walked in had to pass right next to our table. We asked to be moved and they said they could not accommodate us although no one was seated in the other tables when we were there.
